00:00Lucy Fink here and I'm just as guilty as anyone else when it comes to making
00:04snap judgments about people or certain ways of doing things. But what is the
00:09real problem when it comes to stereotyping? And could there maybe be a
00:13kernel of truth to some of these stereotypes? I want to know what do you
00:17think about stereotyping? What is the first word that comes to mind when you
00:22hear the word stereotypes? Yuck. Really unconscious piousness. Social injustice.
00:27Judging it. Racist. Lack of information. Have you ever been stereotype? I'm Colombian.
00:33They expect her to talk like Sofia Vergara. A lot of people assume I live in Brooklyn or you know
00:38in
00:38some ghetto neighborhood. I'm like no. As I'm gay actually people think that I'm
00:44dangerous for society. Little rich white girl. I automatically assume lower middle class,
00:49not educated. You'll be walking down the street and try to see her like clutch her bag a little
00:54title or throw it over her head. Asian people are good at math. I got that all the time.
01:00What are some of the most common stereotypes you hear of in everyday life? Women can't drive.
01:06White people can't dance. Because I'm a guy it's easier. I think everything probably has a stereotype
01:12associated with it. What do you think is like the major problem with the fact that people stereotype
01:17all the time? I think a lot of it is that people don't even realize that they're doing it or
01:21that they
01:22don't realize how kind of cool it is. You should always seek more information. We just shut each
01:26other out. Can you think of any stereotypes that you think are actually true? Every single person
01:32is very very different and I've never been able to categorize anybody. I don't think someone just
01:38fabricated the whole thing. I think like positive stereotypes are more likely to be said that
01:42they're rooted in truth. Where do you think they come from? I think uh maybe the media.
01:48It's perpetrated by the media. It's perpetrated by your parents. It's a rumor like started spreading
01:53and then it got twisted into a stereotype. I'd say it's definitely true to some degree. I assume
02:01that they'll have the same interests. I think as time goes on you know like you end up looking like
02:05your dog or you end up looking like your partner. They probably do look like my friends. Most of my
02:09friends have two legs, two arms, two eyes, a nose and a mouth. So I think they do look the
02:14same to me. How would you
02:15judge me and stereotype me? I like look at you and I automatically associate you with Taylor Swift.
02:21The hair, the outfit. Taylor Swift, oh yeah? Yeah. You go to brunch a lot. You are a pretty energetic
02:27person.
02:28You like shopping. You dress cute. Someone knowledged in clothing. I would like to be your friend because
02:32of the way you look and the way you act. We can be friends. Turns out most of the stereotypes
02:37surround
02:38racism. People do look like they're friends and just from looking at me people tend to think that I
02:43have a good sense of fashion. Which is funny considering my twin sister dresses me every
02:48morning. Thank you so much for watching and comment below. We want to know what do you think about
02:53stereotypes. Wow well I did model my short hair on Taylor. Hey guys Lucy Fink here from Try Living
