00:00We were best friends all throughout college, so four years and then...
00:05This is the friend zone.
00:05Yes.
00:06Got it.
00:06Very friend zone.
00:07Yes.
00:08Yeah.
00:08Oh, yeah.
00:09I was about as far into that zone as you can go.
00:12Hey, guys.
00:13It's Ariana Davis, and we're here for a very special episode of How to Love, brought to
00:18you by Netflix's new movie, When We First Met.
00:20We're talking to four real-life couples about the ways they first met and how they found
00:24love.
00:25I want to start from the beginning of your love story.
00:28When did you two first meet?
00:30Oh, man.
00:32I remember that story clear as day, but...
00:34Priscilla, do you remember that one?
00:35No, not at all.
00:37He just kind of popped up out of nowhere.
00:40We met at the club.
00:42We have a mutual friend, and she had introduced us.
00:45It was what did you lie?
00:47I saw sparks when you saw me.
00:49There was no, like, fireworks to begin with.
00:52Like, it wasn't one of those love stories, right?
00:54She was dancing with her friends, and then I just kind of, like, zoned in.
00:58When I saw her, I just immediately was like, I have to go talk to her right now.
01:01I introduced myself to her because I had just gotten out of an all-guys school, and I
01:05was really excited to see girls.
01:08It seemed like she didn't even notice me.
01:10I'm like, all right.
01:10So I started talking to her, and then I was asking for her number one night because we
01:14was leaving work.
01:15We both closed, and she was just like, um, you can ask me for it tomorrow.
01:20I was like...
01:21Tomorrow?
01:21I just didn't want to give him my number.
01:24Persistence goes a long way, clearly.
01:26As I was getting off the subway, he was like, wait, and this is where our stories differ.
01:31He thinks that I, like, I was on a white horse, and I got off, and I was like, wait.
01:35It was like one of those Baywatch moments, like, wind blowing.
01:37He got my attention and asked for my number, and I said yes.
01:43I was not looking for anyone, and he wasn't my type, but he was so nice.
01:47I was very happy I gave you my number.
01:49Yeah.
01:50Oh, my gosh.
01:52Okay, so you knew kind of that, like, things were in the friend zone, but was there ever
01:56a point where you were like, maybe, actually, this is moving somewhere?
01:59Um, not at all.
02:00Like, I took that thought and, like, put it back here in my brain somewhere, and it kind
02:04of just got covered in cobwebs.
02:06And when that, like, all of a sudden I pulled that box back out, and I was like, oh, I
02:11forgot what was in here.
02:13We had a, like, a dance, so then she ended up going with me as a friend, but a friend
02:18that also made out with me that night, so that worked out well.
02:22That worked out very well for you.
02:24We started going out around October, right?
02:26Around Columbus Day, something like that.
02:28We went to the exact day.
02:29He said it was Columbus Day, 3 p.m.
02:32We made it official.
02:33Yo, I remember.
02:34I think neither one of us really wanted to, yeah, like, you want to hang out?
02:38Yeah.
02:39So we tried to keep it casual.
02:40He made me laugh, like, a lot, and that's, that's, like, huge for me.
02:45He texted me and invited me for a date, but I didn't know it's a date.
02:51So, um, I actually brought a friend.
02:54So now I'm taking two people on a date, so I'm like, Julia, what do you want?
02:58Julia's friend, what do you want?
03:00Was it ever really challenging for you guys?
03:02In March, I broke up with him, because I had a lot going on.
03:05I was in school and then, you know, other family issues and all that.
03:08So how did you end up getting back together?
03:11Hmm.
03:13Hmm.
03:13I haven't had one of those best friends that you tell each other everything down to a single detail until,
03:18like, he came along.
03:20So I was like, dang, I really miss him.
03:23I like him a lot.
03:24So when did you know it was love?
03:26Like, when did you first say, like, I think I love this person?
03:29It was around Easter.
03:31Yeah.
03:31I only remember that because they were peeps.
03:33Candy.
03:33He loves sour candy.
03:35And I set up this scavenger hunt, and I put different sour candies, like, in different parts of my room
03:40and, like, around the apartment.
03:41And, like, with each sour candy, I left a note.
03:43The last note said, I love you.
03:46Yeah.
03:46Yeah.
03:47Oh, my God.
03:48Hold on.
03:48I might cry.
03:50I might cry.
03:51We were sitting on the Delaware River in tubes.
03:53It was, like, 95 degrees just, like, laying out.
03:55And I was just like, I love you.
03:56Oh.
03:57I sent it back.
03:57I loved her, too.
03:58And I already have by that point, for sure.
04:00Aw.
04:00So, if you guys could travel back in time and change anything about your relationship, is there anything that you
04:06would do differently?
04:07Our sophomore year of college, Christina came up with an idea to just put Crystal Palace vodka in a cup
04:14and pink lemonade powder and just mix it and drink that.
04:19And we drank that together.
04:20And if I could change anything, I wouldn't have done that.
04:23Because I felt terrible the next day.
04:25I wish I would have listened more from the beginning.
04:27Like, in arguments and stuff, I was just always quick to just react.
04:29Like, I wish I would have thought about her opinion more.
04:33I don't think I would do anything differently, like, down to the breakup, because that distance helped build a solid
04:39friendship.
04:39You know, you can't have a relationship without a solid friendship.
04:42Mm-hmm.
04:43I don't have any regrets, because I feel like the path that we took is what led us to here,
04:47and I'm happy at where I'm at.
04:49Oh, I love it.
04:51Okay, so we have a little clip to show you guys from Netflix's new movie, When We First Met.
04:56You know, when you are about to fulfill your destiny, I waited too long, and then I got hugged.
05:09You're so awesome.
05:11Yeah.
05:11I left, never knowing what went wrong.
05:14Bye.
05:14Bye.
05:15But I figured I would at least get a second chance with her.
05:19Until fate kicked me in my ball sack the very next day when she met Ethan.
05:39And you know why she needed more cereal?
05:42Because I ate all of her cookie crisps.
05:46Do you relate to that clip we just watched?
05:47Like, do you ever feel like maybe you could have just missed your chance?
05:50I mean, I could have thought it kind of broke down when she left me.
05:53But, you know, fate was just like, nah, man, she don't know what she's doing, you know?
05:57And we've been through a lot, so it's just like, if this ain't fate, I don't know what is.
06:02Definitely.
06:02Yeah, I guess it was pretty unlikely that we meet.
06:06Yes.
06:06Yeah, I think definitely.
06:08Marist actually was my last choice of schools to go to.
06:12If I never went there, I would have never met Connor.
06:15There were lots of moments where we could have said, it's too hard.
06:18But instead we said, we found a needle in a haystack, and we're going to keep it and treasure it.
06:23That is fate.
06:23That is really fate right there, I have to say.
06:26Fate brings people together in all sorts of ways, so you never know when you might find true love.
