00:05This is Bonnie Thunders.
00:09She's the captain of the Gotham Girls Roller Derby All-Stars.
00:13Under her guidance, the team has won five national championships
00:16and gone 80 games without a loss.
00:19She's constantly pushing herself and the sport she loves further.
00:28Roller Derby is chaotic and beautiful.
00:33You're going in one direction,
00:35but you're also making extremely hard contact with your opponents.
00:42People often ask if it's violent.
00:44I think of fighting as violent.
00:47Like, it is very aggressive, but that to me isn't violence.
00:50We're women who are powerful and are going to do it the way we want to do it.
00:54It allows you to be whatever you want,
00:56whatever part of the spectrum.
00:58Like, we have extremely radically feminist girls
01:02who, like, put on red lipstick for games.
01:04But, like, you can do that because that's what you want to do
01:07and no one's going to say anything about it.
01:14I think it's just always about pushing yourself
01:16to do more than you think you can.
01:18And, you know, I don't ever want to sell myself short.
01:20I want to maximize my potential.
01:22And if you don't have that mentality or that drive,
01:26you don't make it in New York
01:27and you don't make it in Gotham Girls or Derby.
