00:32I really want jumbo twists because I've never had them before.
00:37I've seen them on so many people.

00:39They look like these beautiful goddess, majestic like things and I really want to try them out.

01:01I'm a freelance hairstylist in Los Angeles, California.
01:04Some of my celebrity clients include Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and Kendall Jenner.
01:09I specialize in many different things.
01:11I do weaving, I do braiding, many different styles.
01:15So, have you ever gotten jumbo twists with that?
01:17I haven't.
01:17No.
01:17Oh, this is going to be exciting.
01:18Yes.
01:19Okay, are you ready to get started?
01:20I'm ready.

01:23So, the first step is to subsection each section, parting it in the direction that she wants.
01:30And I would rubber band it at least a half inch away from the scalp.
01:34I would then take my extension and pull that hair through using the crochet needle.
01:41And then I would start the twisting process.
01:46For my hair journey, typically, I've just kept my hair pretty natural.
01:52I'm from Georgia.
01:52And so, I've always been taught that your hair is your crown and your jewel that you carry.
01:59So, it's really important for me, as a southern belle, to keep my hair as cute and as natural as
02:06possible.
02:07And so, when I add a protective style, I like to try something that's also natural
02:12and also very complimentary, like the jumbo twists.
02:20Jumbo twists can typically last up to a month, maybe a month and a half,
02:25depending on how well you take care of them.
02:26They're typically bigger parts and bigger twists.
02:31Literally, you're using a thicker amount of hair.
02:33We did a lot of jumbo twists on Black is King.
02:36We did on the dancers and we also did some for the talent.
02:40Ever since then, I've been seeing a lot more jumbo twists and even braiding styles in general.
02:47Some tips to maintain your jumbo twists are to, for sure, wrap your hair at night.
02:54And you start noticing lots of flyaways.
02:56Take a hot, wet cloth, lay it on the hair and let it sit on the hair for about 10
03:03to 15 seconds
03:04and then take it off.
03:05And you'll notice that those hairs tend to relax.
03:07Don't go swimming and just keep it out of your face.
03:11Messing with it will cause it to press more.
03:19Hair means art to me.
03:21I just realized a few years ago that it was my form of art.
03:25It means the world to me because it's my passion and
03:29literally became something that I love to do every single day.
03:32And I'm super excited that I get to do this for a living.
03:38I use Nairobi Wrapping Foam just to seal that hair in.
03:43Once I get all the way to the end, I would go on and do the edges.
03:48I would use any edge tamer and my edge brush and I would start brushing or combing down the edges
03:55due to the design that we prefer that she requests.
03:59In this case, we're doing small circles and little zigzags.
04:04So we're all finished.

04:33When you sleep at night, if you feel like it's too much hair,
04:37you can try to put it all into a top knot bun if you can.
04:40You know, it may be a little heavy, but it's going to be beneficial for your hair.
