00:00I'm a little fearful for it to be on the short side,
00:02just because when my natural hair, if I let it dry,
00:05it'll be kind of curly, and I don't
00:07want it to be this little frizz ball.
00:09Hi, I'm Nadia, and today I'm getting a 90s asymmetrical bob.
00:13I want this look today because I'm looking for something new.
00:16I'm a new mom.
00:17Now that I have my one-year-old, it's
00:18a little bit harder to be able to do my hair.
00:21So now I'm definitely looking for something
00:23a little more low-maintenance that I can just kind of style
00:26quickly and go out the door.
00:27My celebrity inspirations for this look
00:30would probably be Kate Mara and Lucy Hale.
00:33Because I have so much hair, I just always keep it short
00:36so that it's easier to maintain.
00:37I'm excited to get this new haircut.
00:39It gives me more confidence when I've got a good style going on.
00:43This is definitely the mom makeover I need.
00:46So what are we going to do today?
00:47We're going to do the 90s asymmetrical bob.
00:50I like that.
00:51Hello, my name is Michael Sparks.
00:52I'm a hairstylist, and I currently own the salon called Tabin Sparks.
00:57I'm one of the owners on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica.
01:00Some of my clients that I do work with, Jamie Alexander, Elizabeth Perkins,
01:05the same approach that I do with them is what I take into the salon.
01:07So you're ready for a change?
01:09I definitely am.
01:10Totally got you.
01:10Awesome.
01:11I'm excited.
01:13The first step, I needed her hair to be clean and washed and wet.
01:16I like clean hair, so I always do it wet, and then I go through it afterwards by blow drying
01:22it, and then I cut it dry.
01:24After that, section the hair, decided on the part.
01:29Today's inspiration is a 90s asymmetrical bob, but with a little bit of my own spin, I guess.
01:37Thinning out, and then also layering the way that I was taught, which is not always like
01:42everyone.
01:44My scissors from Japan, they're actually like samurai swords, but they're scissors.
01:49It's crazy.
01:51I cut her hair super straight on the bottom.
01:55The last time I got my hair professionally done, I was pregnant.
01:59I was probably about six months along, and my son is now a year and a half.
02:07Then I used my razor, gradually creating an A-line.
02:16Over quarantine, I've been wearing my hair in a ponytail.
02:19It's just been really hard and a struggle to find some time to actually be able to style
02:24my hair and get ready quickly is the main thing now.
02:30Layering, I layered it slightly around her face a little bit to create some movement.
02:36Then after that, I blow dried it super straight so that I can make sure that the haircut was
02:41done correctly with the A-line in mind.
02:45I also used a flat iron to make sure it was really straight.
02:51How I cut it to be asymmetrical her hair was that I basically over-directed the hair in
02:57certain angles to make it longer on one side.
02:59Then once it was dried, I really just made it even more so, longer on one side.
03:08To upkeep the haircut that I did on Nadia, she would have to see a stylist or myself every
03:1410 to 12 weeks.
03:22Once everything was done, I tweaked it out a little bit, used my scissors, took some weight
03:26out of it, did what I needed to do to make the haircut look great.
03:35And then we decided to style it in kind of like a loose, effortless, some texture.
03:42So I added some volume with some different muses at first, played with that, dried it
03:48up a little bit more, gunked up the hair a little bit, used my curling irons, two different
03:52ones, curl the hair going off the face.
03:57Grab my fingers through it, put one side of the hair behind her ears, and voila!
04:04Here we go!
04:09Oh, it's so cute!
04:11I love it!
04:12I love it!
04:12It's got a little, like, punky vibe going to it.
04:16I feel super excited.
04:17I was excited for the whole experience to happen, and now that it's happened, it's,
04:21I guess, everything I imagined.
04:22It looks great.
04:24I definitely feel leveled up.
04:26I can't get this smile off my face.
04:29While cutting the hair, I decided that I wanted to undercut the very first section to make sure
04:35that the top of her hair can lay really flat to her neck because she has so much hair.
04:41Nadia was awesome to work with.
04:42I loved seeing Nadia's reaction in the mirror when after I was done doing her hair.
04:46It's, like, that actually gives me, like, the most joy.
04:49It's, like, when you can, like, get someone super excited and happy, and it's just, they
04:54feel like a million bucks.
04:56Working with Michael is amazing.
04:58He's very down-to-earth, fun guy.
05:00Michael cut off three inches.
05:02It wasn't a lot, but it made a big difference.
05:05So I know Nadia has a one-year-old, and she was able to get away for a minute to
05:10change
05:10her look, and I can totally relate to that because I have three boys.
05:14She'll go back to her normal life, but at least she'll have a new look, and she'll be
05:17excited about that.
05:19I feel great now.
05:20It's definitely the mom makeover I wanted.
05:23I definitely wish I would have made this change sooner.
05:25I feel amazing about this new change, and I feel great, and it was everything that I expected.
