00:01Hi, I'm Spiral Stairs from Pavement, and Spiral Stairs, Preston School of Industry, among other things.
00:11We get the offer to reunite now and then, and people would always say,
00:17like, when are you guys going to reunite?
00:20So, it's kind of been in the back of our minds, but we just, our agent just kind of said,
00:26you know, there's been a lot of really good offers to play, and, you know, if you guys wanted to
00:31do something interesting,
00:33you know, this next year would be a good time.
00:36And everybody just, we just kind of talked about it, and everybody, some people have kids,
00:42and some people have other things going on, and everybody just kind of said,
00:47yeah, I'll make the year free, and let's just make it about pavement and see what happens.
00:51And then, you know, we started announcing shows, and just the response has been so crazy that we just decided
00:58to really do a full tour.
01:02Steve likes to say, you know, we're doing it for Bobby, who likes to gamble on the horses.
01:09He's in debt because he lost on a horse that he bought, but it's not really because of that.
01:16But if you want to know the story, that's what it is. We're doing it for Bobby. No.
01:21No, it's just, yeah, it's just kind of, seems like a fun, fun thing.
01:27I mean, pavement over the last 10 years has been, it's really been, gotten a lot bigger than it ever
01:35was.
01:36And we've been putting out these reissues, and I think, you know, there's just been a big demand for pavement
01:43to play.
01:44A lot of people never got to see us in the old days, and, yeah. So, hopefully they like it.
01:53When was it? It was February, I think, and we were in Portland, and, yeah, it was pretty weird.
02:02We walked in, and everybody looked exactly the same, and we all just kind of got up there and tried
02:11to get through the songs as best as we could.
02:14But after, we, about a week, you know, we went through about a week, and it was still kind of
02:20sounding a little rough.
02:22And then we came back and did another week, and it just started sounding better and better, and we were
02:29confident enough.
02:30I mean, pavement never practiced in the old days, so this is pretty rare to even get through one practice.
02:36Because I can never really tell, you know, I mean, people come up to me all the time and say,
02:41like, you know, I'm a big fan, and, you know, I'm like, man.
02:45You know, like, but I'm friends with Broken Social Scene, and, you know, they say that they've formed because of
02:53a pavement record or something.
02:55And I just, I can't personally tell, because, you know, it's too weird to understand that.
03:01But it's nice, and, you know, I mean, I'm a fan of other bands, and I would be saying the
03:09same thing to my favorite bands, probably.
03:11You know, we're playing the hits, but we're also playing songs that we're very confident playing.
03:17And we're playing some songs that we never played in them in a long time, too.
03:22Some early Slant and Enchanted songs.
03:25But we've practiced about 40 songs.
03:29I think we're playing about 35 of them, you know, right now.
03:34About a two-hour set.
03:36So, you know, we're not, you know, we're still, you know, having fun playing them.
03:45They don't seem old to us at all.
03:48We've agreed to, I think all the shows that we've booked so far is basically it.
03:54I mean, we might end up doing some more, you know, later in the year.
03:59But, you know, we're pretty comfortable with what we're doing.
04:02You know, if the response is, you know, if more people really want to see us, then I think we
04:09might do some more.
04:10But, you know, this is pretty fun the way it is.
