00:03Hi, I'm Rose Eleanor Dougal.
00:05Yeah, when I was like 17 I joined the Pipettes, so that was a good few years ago.
00:14And I spent four years sort of touring the world and singing pop songs in paper-top dress,
00:20which was a completely surreal and weird experience, and a brilliant one as well.
00:25And it got to the end of 2007 and we sort of finished the campaign with that record
00:32and I felt like it was time to maybe go to Pastures New.
00:37And I'd always sort of had this idea that maybe I had a record of my own in me.
00:43So I thought I'd better see what happened and actually give it a go instead of sort of moaning about
00:47it.
00:48So I kind of made quite a rough decision to leave and then spent about six months going,
00:56Oh God, what am I going to do now?
00:58Sort of held myself up in my bedroom and wrote a lot of songs.
01:04And then found some very generous people to sort of help me make those songs come to fruition in some
01:13way.
01:13And so I spent about a year recording a very slow, gradual thing.
01:18But the record is now finished and it's coming out in August.
01:22And that's about the size of it.
01:24Well, I guess the record, I mean, it's quite a personal endeavour.
01:31So I think it's quite an intimate record in that sense.
01:34But I guess I was drawing on influences from things like Sandy Denny and John Martin
01:42and then further along to things like Broadcast and Silver Apples.
01:48And so I guess it's kind of got like a quite an English, slightly psychedelic, folky kind of pop sound.
01:55If I was to describe it, I reckon that's kind of what it is.
02:00I guess the song that probably encapsulates all of the different kind of aspects of my album
02:07would probably be a single called Start Stop Sink, which came out last November.
02:12I really was, it was really important to me to have quite as wide a breadth of sounds that I
02:19could kind of manage.
02:21So there's a lot of light and shade within the record itself.
02:24But I think that that kind of has all the qualities of the album in one song probably.
02:31My motto.
02:33I guess it's kind of just like, there's a little bit like keep calm and carry on.
02:37I think that was like an old English sort of Second World War sort of phrase that I really, really
02:44feel has,
02:45I actually have a poster of it in my bedroom.
02:49I think you just kind of, yeah, it's really important to just not take yourself too seriously,
02:53but like, got to keep plugging away. That's the way to go, I reckon.
02:57I think that's a good thing.
02:57I think that's the way I'm doing it.
02:57I think that's what I probably should say.
02:59I think that's what I'm making.
02:59We're doing my job, I think your schedule is to be good.
03:00I think that's what I'm getting.
