00:11Big lopes of luck fall at your feet and you become successful or something. There are millions of people that
00:18can write really good songs, much better than I ever will, but they'll never make it because that bit of
00:22luck missed them.
00:24As they were walking down the street, I was lucky. I had two bits in one week. And next thing
00:29you know, I'm an overnight sensation.
00:32Our Friends Electric, my first song that gets to number one, there's actually two songs stuck together because I lacked
00:39the ability to finish either of them.
00:41I had a good verse, I thought. I couldn't think of a bloody chorus for it, Love No Money.
00:45And I had this other little thing, quite pretty, but I couldn't think of a verse to attach it to.
00:49And one day I'm playing this one. I still can't think of a bloody chorus for it. I started playing
00:53that one.
00:54Oh, that's alright. They work together. I'll put them together.
00:58You end up with a song five and a half minutes long and it becomes number one.
01:01But that essentially is very poor songwriting. I couldn't finish either of those songs.
01:07So I become successful because I couldn't write songs very well. Really? You know?
01:12And I can't play real well because our Friends Electric didn't go the way it ended up. It didn't go,
01:18da-da, that little bit. You know?
01:20It was different. And I hit a wrong note when I was playing it, before I recorded it.
01:24And I thought, well that sounds better. So my entire success is built on not being able to finish songs
01:29properly and playing badly.
01:31You know? That's going to keep you down to earth, innit? For the rest of your life.
01:36People sound pretentious. Fuck off. Fucking pretentious.
