This ride started off with so much anticipation and excitement. The bike, at the time, had recently had a serious electrical problem (known Aprilia issue of a simple socket melting by the side of the engine) that had been fixed... but memory of how much fuel was in the tank had been forgotten with all the waiting, sporadic storms, etc. The urge to detour for a quick scenic run before work was overwhelming.
The greatest tragedy was that, the moment the fuel light turned on, the tyres were only a few turns away from optimal temperatures. What resulted was some contemplative riding; "the next quality service station on the other side of the mountain... it's do-able. Close to running on fumes, sure... but 100% it is do-able!"
Ultimately the realisation that there were two construction stop-go areas between the bike and its next fueling stop was the deciding factor for the turn around
