Ben Starr, a voice actor for the upcoming 'Clair Obscur: Expedition 33', argues that video games are a powerful medium on their own and don't need validation from Hollywood. Watch his take on the current golden age of game adaptations.
Transcript
00:00We are currently in something of a golden age when it comes to Hollywood video game adaptations,
00:04with Mario, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter all getting new movies this year.
00:08Another upcoming addition to add to the list is Claire Obscure Expedition 33,
00:12which will be getting a movie adaptation. However,
00:14VS voice actor Ben Starr believes that video games are more than capable of standing on their
00:19own, without validation from TV or film producers. In a discussion with Dexerto at this year's BAFTA
00:24Game Awards, Starr stated, I don't think video games need adaptations to justify them. He continues,
00:29I think it's exciting. I think it's a testament to the power of video games that we're having so
00:34many people want to go to the well of games. He mentioned how powerful game franchises have
00:38become to production companies. We've got so many strong IPs. You're already seeing God of War,
00:42we're seeing Assassin's Creed, he states, good luck to them. I don't think we need them. I think TV
00:47needs us. I think film needs us. He does clarify that it's nice to see the positive impact new fans
00:52of these franchises are having on the popularity of the games. It's nice because it allows games
00:56to expand beyond the remit of game as he muses. But I don't think video games need to justify
01:01their existence by being TV shows. They are great because they are games. Do you agree with Ben Starr?
