01:08I think it was a great day out here.
01:10I mean, I know he's going out there and competing.
01:12Got a lot of love for him. I always have.
01:15So it seems like it was a competitive practice.
01:18Ah, yes. You heard A.J. Brown there from the Eagles-Patriots joint practice yesterday,
01:24saying he has not spoken with Jalen Hurts since the trade to the New England Patriots.
01:29And Hurts, as you heard, kept it very brief when talking about A.J. Brown.
01:33Then today, just after 12.30 Eastern time, video emerges of the two, hugging it out.
01:43Look at this. A little jog, middle of the field, a little dap, a little hug.
01:49Bam! Hello!
01:52Listen, I had to laugh when I saw this because, first of all, let's give credit where credit is due.
01:59I think A.J. Brown handled yesterday's press conference beautifully, perfectly.
02:05He said everything with a smile. He said everything that was honest.
02:09They hadn't talked since the trade.
02:11And clearly, while the Eagles were ridiculously successful,
02:16while A.J. Brown was sensational in Philadelphia,
02:19Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown did not have a great relationship,
02:22which is why Howie Roseman, who's the best of the best as a general manager in the National Football League,
02:28had to unequivocally make this trade.
02:30And I think, and everyone in Philly knows this,
02:34A.J. Brown is going to go dominate with the New England Patriots.
02:38One of the reasons why is because he's going to have an upgrade in quarterback
02:43going from Jalen Hurts to Drake May. Simple as that.
02:46But these guys don't have to be the best of friends.
02:50Let's be crystal clear.
02:51And clearly, it was important enough for A.J. Brown to kind of flip the script today.
02:59Find Jalen Hurts.
03:00Have the optics.
03:02So shows like ours, run that video.

03:10You know, they're, I mean, look at this.
03:11This is as wonderfully, and I mean, this is a compliment,

03:17A.J. Brown was like, you know what?
03:19I'm done answering questions.
03:21And he said everything appropriately and everything with a smile yesterday
03:25and everything honestly, which is all we in the media and fans ask for,
03:30be honest and truthful talking to the press.
03:33Here's the thing when you look at Brown in Philadelphia.
03:36He was fantastic.
03:37It was a sensational deal.
03:392023, shock and awe, day of the NFL draft, and bam, they make a trade, right?
03:45And it was four years of greatness and genius,
03:48and A.J. Brown in three of those four years was first or second team All-Pro.
03:52Two of those four years, he had the top two single seasons in terms of receiving yards
03:57in the long-storied history of the Philadelphia Eagles.
04:02He won a Super Bowl.
04:04He lived up to his end of the bargain.
04:06He was a sensational Philadelphia Eagle.
04:09And then he had about enough of Jalen Hurts, and you could figure out the reasons why.
04:13We could talk about Hurts being stubborn.
04:16We could talk about Hurts not throwing over the middle.
04:19We could talk about Hurts not getting the ball to A.J. Brown.
04:22We could talk about, after the Super Bowl, the offensive coordinator situation.
04:27There's a lot of different things and reasons that we can get into on what happened.
04:32But it happened.
04:33So now, it's time to move on.
04:36So A.J. Brown is gone, and Jalen Hurts is working again with a new offensive coordinator.
04:42Makai Lemon, who I love that draft pick, he's missed the vast majority of training camp
04:47with a hamstring injury before he returned today.
04:51Am I concerned about the Philadelphia Eagles passing attack?
04:55Yes.
04:55Yes, I am.
04:57I am very concerned.
04:58And understand, I honestly think that the Philadelphia Eagles, when you look at this depth chart,
05:04this is just, it's not good at the wide receiver position.
05:09I kind of want to go pound for pound here, right?
05:12Number one, I think Devontae Smith is unbelievable.
05:16Seriously.
05:16I'm not throwing that word around.
05:18I think Devontae Smith draft him in fantasy football.
05:21I think in reality, he's so tough, so clutch.
05:24You know, he's been as advertised since Howie Roseman brilliantly plucked him out of Alabama.
05:30He is phenomenal.
05:31Winner.
05:32He's everything you want.
05:33Speedy.
05:34Won a championship.
05:36Great to win it matters the most.
05:38Phenomenal hands.
05:39I think he's going to have Devontae Smith a monster season.
05:42I love Makai Lemon.
05:43Obviously, for a rookie, you never want training camp curbed with an injury in the beginning.
05:49But let's also simultaneously not overreact here.
05:54I mean, Lemon getting on the field is huge.
05:56We still have time for Makai Lemon to be ready for week number one and to make an immediate impact,
06:04hitting home runs, taking the top off the opposing defense for the Philadelphia Eagles.
06:09I thought the Brown signing was good.
06:12Wick signing was good.
06:13But these guys are just that.
06:17They're solid pieces as a third receiver, a fourth receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles.
06:24The issues, it's going to be Jalen Hurts, who did not have a great season last year,
06:29and his completion percentage was for him in the toilet.
06:33And it's going to be another year, another play caller.
06:36And this team has not been the same since Kellen Moore took that coaching job,
06:40head coaching job with the New Orleans Saints, after Moore was the awesome architect of the team
06:45that won the Super Bowl.
06:46So you look at it from the standpoint of Jalen Hurts and a new offensive coordinator.
06:52Listen, Sean Mannion comes in.
06:55Sean Mannion's never called plays before.
06:57And also, you had experienced offensive coordinators who interviewed for this job,
07:02like a Mike McDaniel, like a Brian Dayball, and they ran away.
07:07Because I feel like, and, you know, we've read the Jeremy Fowler ESPN report
07:13and talked about it on Shine Time, interviewed Jeremy Fowler about it.
07:17You know, clearly, there's a lot of blame on Hurts, who can be stubborn,
07:22won't throw over the middles, not great against, you know, certain defenses,
07:26and didn't get A.J. Brown the ball.
07:28So now you have a stubborn quarterback with a first-time play caller,
07:33and that's usually not a recipe for success here for an offense.
07:38Now, Jalen Hurts, let's be honest and let's be clear, is a big-time winner.
07:42Jalen Hurts has won a Super Bowl.
07:44He almost won a second Super Bowl.
07:46And frankly, I'd make the case that he was as good as Patrick Mahomes
07:50in the Super Bowl that they lost.
07:52I think the world of Jalen Hurts on what he did from the beginning of his career,
07:58dealing with Carson Wentz, then becoming a great player,
08:02winning a championship, and delivering for Philadelphia.
08:05But last year was a mess.
08:07It was a complete mess.
08:08And let's also be clear about this.
08:10The straw that stirred the drink the year they won the championship
08:13was Saquon Barkley.
08:14And that's not throwing shade at Jalen Hurts.
08:17That's being honest.
08:19Also, the offensive line, while it's going to be healthy this year,
08:23and that's, you know, everyone's healthy now.
08:24They weren't healthy last year.
08:26Their incredible offensive line coach, Jeff Stoutland, is no longer there.
08:30That's kind of a big deal.
08:32Obviously, Goddard at the tight end position could play.
08:35But I just don't view this offense in the same way
08:39from when they won a championship.
08:41And we could go through those reasons why, right?
08:43I think it's important here.
08:45No Kellen Moore, another play caller, another inexperienced play caller.
08:50And I think in a lot of ways, especially because Howie Roseman,
08:54and I love A.J. Brown, did the right thing.
08:56Had to move on from Brown, and that put someone like Jalen Hurts
09:00in the crosshairs for this season, which is a ridiculously unfair statement
09:05considering he's won a championship and he went to another Super Bowl.
09:09But I don't look at Jalen Hurts as elite.
09:14We did our shy nine, top nine quarterbacks for 2026.
09:18Jalen Hurts was not in my top nine.
09:21He wasn't in my top ten.
09:23He wasn't in my top 12.
09:25I look at the division.
09:26Dak Prescott is better.
09:28Jalen Daniels is better.
09:30Like if we're, again, picking quarterbacks for this season.
09:35So, I always know when it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles,
09:39you have to give them respect and credit.
09:41And I think Barkley will bounce back.
09:43And I think the Eagles will make the playoffs this year.
09:46I think the Eagles' offense will be good, but not great.
09:50So, I am fascinated to see what transpires for this upcoming season
09:54because simultaneously, and we'll bring it full circle
09:57and tie it all together, I expect A.J. Brown to have a monster season.
10:03I think A.J. Brown is going to absolutely dominate.
10:06He's got an upgrading quarterback, played for Mike Vrabel in Tennessee.
10:10They're back together.
10:11I wouldn't be surprised if A.J. Brown had 100 catches,
10:151,500 receiving yards, 15 touchdowns.
10:19That kind of impactful season.
10:22And I think there are going to be a lot of eyes
10:25and a lot of daggers on Jalen Hurts
10:27when you look at his ineffective play last year
10:31and how I think that he's going to be a little bit stuck in the middle
10:34on a quarterback power ranking for this season.
10:37Eagles are not the only offense I'm worried about.
10:40C.J. Stroud was so bad last time that we saw him,
10:43he had to cut his hair off
10:45because he didn't want anyone to recognize him.
10:47At least that's how I'm telling the story.
10:48Let me remind you what C.J. Stroud did in the divisional round
10:54against the New England Patriots.
10:55And I would make this case.
10:58This was the single worst performance by a quarterback in playoff history.
11:05C.J. Stroud was dreadful.
11:07The rating is 28.
11:09He threw four interceptions.
11:11If the Houston Texans would have punted on third down or taken a knee
11:17and just let their defense do their thing,
11:20they would have absolutely won the game against New England
11:23and beat Denver the next week
11:25and had a chance to go to the Super Bowl
11:27and because of their defense beat the Seattle Seahawks in the championship.
11:32So, I think that when you look at C.J. Stroud,
11:36who was in year four,
11:38who was phenomenal as a rookie,
11:40solid but not spectacular year two,
11:43good but not great year three,
11:45dreadful last year in the playoffs,
11:48it's interesting when you start talking about expectations
11:50because I think at this stage,
11:53it's impossible to believe that C.J. Stroud is going to be great.
11:57Can he be good?
11:59Absolutely.
12:00Do I think that he has the ability to improve his completion percentage
12:04and his decision-making?
12:06Texans improved their offensive line.
12:08Three new players, three new starters on their offensive line.
12:11David Montgomery comes in at running back.
12:13Good news is it's a vast improvement.
12:15Bad news, it's still David Montgomery.
12:18There's a reason why he was kicked out of Chicago
12:20and kicked out of Detroit.
12:21He's solid.
12:22He's not spectacular.
12:23I do think he's an upgrade.
12:25I think Montgomery and Woody Marks as a combo,
12:28I think that's pretty good.
12:30Now, is it good enough to ease the pressure
12:33and the heat on C.J. Stroud?
12:35We're going to find out.
12:37Nico Collins, to me,
12:39is a monster key to this team
12:41because I think that Nico Collins
12:44is sensational.
12:45Like a top five, top six wide receiver
12:48in the National Football League.
12:50And I think if he played for a different team,
12:52if he played for a, you know,
12:54the Cowboys as opposed to the Texans,
12:56you know, we wouldn't have to sell that for you.
12:58And you saw the impact
13:00when someone like Collins wasn't there,
13:02including that playoff game
13:03that aforementioned dud and debacle
13:05when he wasn't out there,
13:07wasn't healthy against the New England Patriots.
13:09Obviously, that impacted everything.
13:11Now, Jaden Higgins,
13:13and this is rough stuff here,
13:14he is done for the season, torn ACL.
13:16That's problematic here for the Houston Texans.
13:20And he was going into his second season.
13:22He had a really strong rookie season.
13:24By all accounts,
13:25was having a terrific, terrific camp.
13:28So now you're going to have Hutchinson
13:29and Tank Dell as, you know,
13:32receiver two and three behind Nico Collins.
13:35Love Tank Dell.
13:36He hasn't played in a couple years.
13:39He's a monster injury question and risk.
13:41I don't think there's any doubt about that.
13:43Now, I do love the tight end position.
13:45I think Nick Kelly,
13:46their play caller is really good.
13:48But it is impossible to sit here and say,
13:53I love C.J. Stroud.
13:55And the issue is, right,
13:57because it says expectations
13:59for Stroud and the Texans.
14:01The upside for the Houston Texans
14:03is to go to the Super Bowl.
14:05I think the Houston Texans
14:07have a phenomenal head coach in D'Amico Ryans.
14:10I think that the Houston Texans defense
14:12is special, superb,
14:15the best in the game.
14:16They can beat you on every single level.
14:18I think D'Amico gets his team ready to play.
14:20I think D'Amico's unbelievable.
14:22I think he's brilliant in game.
14:24I love everything about D'Amico Ryans.
14:26I think he is a pro's pro.
14:29I think he's phenomenal
14:30in terms of preparation, dedication,
14:33X's and O's.
14:34I think he's one of the truly best coaches
14:36in the league.
14:37He finally got it right
14:38with the offensive coordinator.
14:40Love Nick Kelly.
14:41And I think that he will maximize
14:44whatever he can
14:45in terms of unearthing the best
14:48from C.J. Stroud.
14:49Remember this about Nick Kelly.
14:50He was with the Rams.
14:52He was with the Patriots.
14:53He's been part of some great coaching staffs
14:55with Belichick, with Sean McVay.
14:57He is very much well-respected
14:59in league circles.
15:00So I look at the Texans
15:02and I think this is a team
15:05that on defense
15:06absolutely can go to the Super Bowl
15:08and win it.
15:08If C.J. Stroud plays like he did
15:11as a rookie,
15:12then the Texans can absolutely
15:14go out and find a way
15:17to win a championship
15:18and deliver the Lombardi Trophy
15:19to the great fans in Houston.
15:21So Texans are going to be on TV tonight
15:24on ESPN.
15:25They've got a preseason game
15:27going up against the Raiders.
15:28It is not crazy to sit there
15:30and watch the Texans
15:31and think, okay,
15:33we can fall in love with them
15:34as a team that can make
15:36a legitimate run in January
15:38en route to the Los Angeles Super Bowl
15:40in February.
15:41But this offense better function.
15:43I just, my fear is
15:45they are not going to be able
15:47to become great.
15:49Good is their max
15:50and that might not be great enough
15:52to ultimately win a championship
15:54for the Houston Texans.
15:55So we have concerns
15:57and questions about the offense.
15:58No such concerns
15:59about their dominant defense.
16:01So with that in mind,
16:02let me shine a light
16:04on my top five defenses
16:06for 2026 in the NFL this season.
16:09Number five, the Dallas Cowboys.
16:12Remember, this is a ranking
16:13for 2026.
16:152025 is in the past, okay?
16:17So I don't want to hear
16:18about Matt Eberflus
16:20and the defense
16:20and Micah Parsons
16:22and anything else.
16:23This is about a full season
16:24for Quinn Williams.
16:25This is about Caleb Downs
16:26who's going to be
16:27the defensive rookie of the year.
16:29This is about bringing in
16:30Von Miller.
16:31This is about drafting Lawrence.
16:32This is about,
16:33this is a bouquet
16:33taking a different step forward
16:35in year number two
16:36out of Boston College.
16:38I am obsessed
16:39with the Dallas Cowboys
16:40and their defense.
16:41I love Christian Parker
16:42as their new defensive coordinator.
16:44I think the Dallas Cowboys
16:46are going to be amazing
16:46this year
16:47and their defense
16:48is fifth best in the NFL.
16:49Number four,
16:50we are going
16:51with the Seattle Seahawks.
16:54And I know a Seahawks fan
16:56might think,
16:56well, that's kind of
16:57disrespectful here.

17:00Seattle's amazing.
17:01They're great on every level.

17:35for Trent McDuffie.
17:36First of all,
17:37Garrett is the best
17:38defensive player
17:39in the sports.
17:40He won the defensive
17:40player of the year.
17:41Anyone who didn't vote him
17:42for number one overall
17:44for defensive player
17:45of the year
17:46would have their head examined.
17:47He's a sack artist.
17:49We had less need
17:49on shine time.
17:50Talking about how
17:51he's going to be
17:51a great starting pitcher
17:53and a closer
17:54in terms of
17:55gets to the quarterback
17:55early.
17:56Rams get a lead
17:57to their offense.
17:58Then he can ultimately

25:18that that could be

25:20at the end of the year.

37:26He was disrespectful.

37:30dopey,

37:32made sense

37:34shape, or form.
37:34He also regrets
37:36building a staff
37:37that underwent
37:37a significant overhaul
37:39in year number one.
37:40And the money quote
37:42he gave to our friend

37:45in the ass for that.
37:48The old ass kick.
37:49And it's even worse
37:50when you have
37:51a self-ass kick.
37:52So that's kind of

37:58you have to get rid
37:59of Steve Wilks.
37:59And Glenn's now
38:00going to run the defense
38:01and he should
38:02because he made his bones
38:03in the NFL
38:04as a terrific
38:05defensive coordinator.

38:08why he got the job
38:09in the first place,

38:10had to get rid
38:11of the offensive staff.

38:23was terrible last year.

38:48picked Justin Fields
38:50because when Aaron Glenn
38:51was the Lions
38:52defensive coordinator,
38:53he would go up
38:54against Justin Fields
38:55twice a year in Chicago
38:56and thought he was
38:58difficult to defend.
38:59So I understood it.
39:01But he was wrong there.
39:03And, you know,
39:03I could get a take wrong.
39:05Aaron Glenn got
39:05everything wrong.
39:07So go through it
39:08from last year, right?
39:09He was terrible in game,
39:11awful in terms of
39:13went to call timeouts,
39:14awful in terms
39:15of getting his team
39:15ready to play,
39:16awful in terms
39:17of challenges,
39:18terrible with the press,
39:19terrible the defense
39:21and Aaron Glenn
39:21was a phenomenal
39:22DB in a corner
39:23for the Jets
39:24and other teams
39:24throughout his great career.
39:25He's a great defensive mind.
39:27Jets didn't have
39:27an interception last year.
39:29Every time I saw
39:30that stat,
39:31I thought it was
39:32a mistake.
39:33I mean,
39:34zero interceptions.
39:35You just,
39:36by accident,
39:37get an interception.
39:38Just one,
39:39if not many.
39:40I don't even
39:41understand it.
39:45I'd like to think
39:46Aaron Glenn can improve.
39:48I think Aaron Glenn
39:50is super smart
39:51and super buttoned up.

40:06and the head coaching position.
40:08If Glenn doesn't get better,

40:17that might have prevented that.

40:27A lot of great players
40:29on offense.

40:30scope positions.
40:31Brees Hall,
40:32Garrett Wilson,
40:33the tight end position,
40:34the depth now
40:35when you take a look
40:36at the receiver position,
40:37Sadiq at tight end,
40:38Cooper at wide receiver.
40:40They drafted those guys.
40:41The line is really
40:42really good,
40:43brought in leaders
40:44on defense like Demario Davis,
40:46love Geno Smith,
40:47love Klubnik.
40:47It just,
40:48it makes sense.
40:49They had a great offseason.
40:51If the Jets,
40:52and I do think
40:53they could start three and two.
40:54I think they're gonna win
40:55week one in Tennessee.
40:56I think they're gonna shock
40:57the world
40:57and beat the Green Bay Packers
40:58week number two at home.
41:00And I think they can beat
41:01the Cleveland Browns
41:03in week number five.
41:05If the Jets don't get it done
41:07or if Aaron Glenn proves
41:08he again is a complete
41:10buffoon in every way,
41:11they'll just get rid of him.
41:13It's as simple as that.
41:15And they'll have
41:15a new head coach
41:16who will probably be
41:18on the offensive side
41:18of the ball
41:19and bring in a new quarterback
41:21who's probably playing
41:22in college
41:23this upcoming season.
41:24The Jets will be set up
41:26to be an attractive job
41:28for the next head coach,
41:29which I've never said
41:30that once
41:31about the head coach
41:32of the New York Jets
41:32that it's an attractive situation.
41:35So I think,
41:37and self-awareness
41:38is the most important thing here,
41:40the fact that Glenn
41:41recognizes all of the failures
41:44in that wide-ranging interview
41:46with our guy Jonathan Jones,
41:47that to me is noteworthy.
41:50Now he's gotta do something about it
41:51because football is
41:52a results-oriented business.
41:53So I'd love the hire
41:55when the Jets made it.
41:56He was atrocious
41:57in every possible way

42:02they'll just fire him.

42:22I want to be the greatest

42:26I want to show my teammates
42:27and show the city
42:28why I asked for that number.
42:32So, a couple of things.

44:15I've said that before.
44:18And, you know,
44:20we're going to move forward
44:21and I thought we had
44:22a great trade deadline.
44:25And, you know,
44:26listen,
44:27David is smart.
44:29He knows what he's doing.
44:30He's very adaptable.
44:32He learns from mistakes.
44:34And that's what I want
44:36in a leader.
44:37So, I don't agree
44:39with Steve Cohen
44:40when he says
44:41David Stearns is smart.
44:43I think what he's done
44:45over the last couple of years
44:47has been the antithesis
44:48of smart.
44:49It's been foolish.
44:50It's been ignorance.
44:52He's been arrogant.
44:53He's treated Mets fans
44:55like fools.
44:56And they are not.
44:57They're a brilliant,
44:58passionate fan base.
45:00Here's one thing
45:01I'm going to give
45:02Steve Cohen credit for.
45:03And I don't agree
45:05with him retaining
45:06David Stearns.
45:07He has not wavered
45:09or waffled on Stearns.
45:11And I do think
45:13that's important here
45:14when it comes to
45:16organizational structure,
45:17getting the next manager,
45:20free agents signing
45:22with the Mets,
45:24and continuity
45:25in terms of a plan.
45:26Now, I think they have
45:27the wrong guy
45:29running baseball
45:30in David Stearns.
45:31We've talked about that.
45:32But I think
45:34Cohen is right
45:35that if he fires Stearns,
45:37it's an upheaval
45:38that, you know,
45:39you have to start
45:40everything all over again
45:41tenfold.
45:43So I appreciate
45:44him doubling,
45:46tripling down,
45:47and saying that
45:48Stearns is his guy
45:49because I know
45:50that it's true.
45:50You know that it's true.
45:51The word choice,
45:52I think,
45:53is a little cartoonish
45:54and buffoonish
45:55on Steve Cohen's part.
45:57Obviously,
45:57the Mets have not
45:58even come close
45:59to living up
45:59to expectations
46:00under Steve Cohen's eyes.
46:02So it's clearly
46:04a monster disappointment
46:05for Mets fans
46:06when you take a look
46:07at what has transpired.
46:09But I do think
46:10there are benefits here
46:12to the immediate future
46:14with the Mets.
46:16Stearns did have
46:17a strong trade deadline.
46:20Let's be fair about that.
46:21Mets have played
46:22better baseball.
46:24It is a pivotal
46:26offseason.
46:27The goal next year
46:28is not to break it down
46:30and build it back up.
46:31It's year three
46:32of the Juan Soto contract.
46:33The goal is to make
46:35a push in the playoffs.
46:36And if you don't,
46:37it's going to be
46:38a complete and utter failure.
46:40Mets have to go back
46:41to the drawing board
46:42on so many different things.
46:43They need four new starters.
46:46They need more pop
46:48in the batting order.
46:49They need a first baseman.
46:50They let Alonzo go.
46:50You know the deal.
46:52They need new relief pitchers.
46:53We can go on and on and on.
46:55But I do give Steve Cohen
46:57credit for this
46:58in terms of Stearns.
47:00He's letting everyone know
47:01Stearns is his guy.
47:03I don't agree with it,
47:05but I give him credit
47:06for making sure
47:07that that message
47:08is out
47:09in the court
47:09of public opinion.
