00:21We're talking about Cade Anderson, the left-hander, who I believe was what, the top-rated minor
00:28league pitcher in baseball?
00:30Yep, number one prospect in all of baseball.
00:33So, look, desperation kind of calls for this if you're Seattle, and it does make some sense.
00:41September call-ups, Joe, are not what they used to be now.

00:44You're still accruing service time.
00:45They got rid of that rule.
00:46So if you come up, the clock starts.

00:54So I suppose it really sucks for him, because it's kind of like a last gasp, like, come

01:06What makes this interesting is, I don't know, Joe, I'm sure you've been paying attention,
01:10but if you've noticed, like, Baez came up for the Cardinals, and, like, Anderson has now
01:14come up for Seattle.
01:15But isn't it kind of strange that a lot of prospects have not been called up over the last
01:20month or so, and I don't think a lot will in the next month, because as I've discussed,
01:25and I'll mention again for people who weren't watching, is that this looming collective
01:30bargaining agreement, there is no collective bargaining agreement over minor league baseball.
01:35So now, with Kate Anderson being called up, Kate Anderson now cannot report to the Mariners
01:42minor league facility in the offseason, or even go to spring training with the AAA team,
01:49because now he's part of the 40-man roster.
01:52So that's why you're not seeing a ton of young guys called up, Joe, because when push comes
01:57to shove, and Max Clark got called up, too, for Detroit, I should mention that.
02:00But when push comes to shove, if there's a team that's 50-50 on a prospect, maybe that
02:07guy gets, the kid gets called up in September just to say, hey, let's give him this cup of
02:10coffee and see how he does, and then we'll see you back in spring training, that's not
02:14going to happen this season, because of the looming lockout.
02:16The better move for some of these clubs is to say, you know what, we don't know if we're
02:22in it or not, let's just keep him in the minors, and then if there's a lockout, guess where
02:28that kid starts off?
02:29He plays AAA, he could play an entire minor league season, Joe, next season, like it's great,
02:33like you just let him play the whole year, and then be ready to go in 2028, or hopefully
02:38when the season begins in baseball, hopefully right on opening day at the end of March and
02:42April, but that's why you're not seeing a lot of this, but I don't think this necessarily
02:46applies to a guy like Kate Anderson.
02:48To me, Joe, this smells of just mad desperation for the Mariners, like they're just throwing
02:54it all out there to say, hey, let's see if this kid could inject some life into this

04:00So I'm not going to throw that on Kate Anderson right out of the box because Skeens was better.
04:08Stats aside, Skeens was a more highly touted guy than Kate Anderson was with Kate Anderson

04:16I mean, Skeens, Joe, I mean, if you remember Paul Skeens pitching LSU, throwing a hundred.

04:33So I, I don't know that Kate Anderson is this guy, but he is universally the number one prospect

04:40If Skeens was still a prospect that probably would have Skeens ahead of him.
04:45Crazy, the numbers, 1.06 ERA, 93 and a third, 135 strikeouts and 93 and a third.
