00:00Now on to the Prouds, baby!
00:03Woo! Woo!
00:04Held our own! Held our own! Held our own! Held our own!
00:10Todd Munkin excited. I was encouraged by how encouraged Todd Munkin was, baby.
00:18The Munkman cometh.
00:21Oh, Franz aren't messing around.
00:23Holy s***.
00:24It's that fun to compete against someone else.
00:26Their guys, our guys, got a lot of respect for the Bills.
00:31And it got a little edgy, but not over the top.
00:34And that's exactly what you're looking for.
00:36Guys want to compete, right?
00:38Got a lot of pride in the way they perform.
00:40And I thought our guys, I can only speak to one side.
00:43Obviously the field I was on, but it was awesome.
00:46And commend the Bills and our guys for, like I said,
00:50taking it to the line but not going over the line.
00:53We're back. We're back.
00:56Spencer, Fano, Kenny.
00:58Yep.
00:59The praise that he was getting.
01:01KC Concepcion.
01:02It's a man's game.
01:03Hello.
01:04It's a man's game.
01:06Played by men.
01:08Against a good team.
01:10And they held their own.
01:11Talon Green.
01:13Red Zone.
01:14Weapon.
01:15Oh, you know you're going to.
01:16Weapon.
01:17It's going to be a December to remember for Talon Green, my friends.
01:23You ain't going anywhere, young man.
01:26You ain't going anywhere.
01:29You know what?
01:30Go ahead and buy.
01:32Call the young team, Talon Green.
01:34You're home now, buddy boy.
01:39Yes.
01:41Yeah, defense is a little.
01:42Yeah, we left out better.
01:43Can I give you a little thing there?
01:45Well, no, you know what?
01:46No, no, no.
01:46This is a positive segment.
01:47We're doing positivity.
01:49I'll get a little critical.
01:50Actually, I got to come to a defense of somebody because they're ripping them for making the right decision.
01:54And that's coming up at 624.
01:56Okay?
01:57I was, honestly, I was encouraged by how encouraged Todd Munkin was because you can't just have guys roll over
02:05and die.
02:06That's the whole issue with this.
02:07Okay?
02:08Now, I've said it before.
02:09I caught a little heat because I said, I said, we're not just a quarterback away.
02:13And some people go, what do you mean we're not just?
02:15I go, hold on for a second before you freak out on me for crying out loud.
02:19Listen to me here.
02:20Before you lose your mind, you're a quarterback away from being on the right track.
02:28But your depth doesn't help.
02:31So you're a quarterback away, but you're a couple of drafts away from competing competing.
02:36But you're on the way, if you get a quarterback, to being on the right track.
02:42Doesn't mean you're going to roll over and die the way that so many teams do it.
02:47And so to stand in there and hold your own, and we'll talk to Sal Capaccio of 550 WGR.
02:57He's the Bills reporter over there.
02:59Wonderful guy.
03:01We'll see what his opinion of it, everything was.
03:04But if you held your own, I'm down with it.
03:06And I think they did.
03:08And that's okay.
03:09And I'm happy to hear it.
03:11I'm happy to see it.
03:12Because we've got to find some ball players.
03:14There's plenty of opportunities over here.
03:16There's diamonds in the rough.
03:18Away we go.
03:19Tone, your thoughts.
03:20I thought it was a huge, because I'll be honest.
03:23I just assumed that we would be a laughingstock in this joint practice.
03:29Not because we don't have good players or anything like that.
03:31Just because it's the Bills.
03:33It's the fact that, yeah, I know they have a new coach.
03:36But we have a new coach, new coaching staff, so many young players.
03:40And we've only been at this for how many weeks?
03:42I know we had mini camps and everything.
03:44But this has only been one preseason game.
03:47And what?
03:48I mean, it was two weeks ago you finished your install.
03:51A week and a half ago.
03:52So they had every reason to just get their butts kicked up and down the field in something like this.
03:58Which, Kenny, famously, that has happened before.
04:01Yeah.
04:01With the joint practices, this has become the norm in the NFL.
04:04Against the Bills.
04:05Against the Bills.
04:06I told you, they were talking trash to Jason Gibbs years ago.
04:11Took a train there and got a...
04:12They took a train there.
04:15Actually, I can't say the rest of that on the air.
04:17I figured you were going with that.
04:19That was an old Browns team.
04:20Can't do that.
04:21No siree, Bob.
04:22So the fact that they...
04:24I mean, it's Friday, but that'll be a long weekend.
04:26And look, Munkin is supposed to be...
04:28We do this for every offensive coach that gets hired in the NFL and certainly with the Browns.
04:34But we need them to be miracle workers.
04:36We just do.
04:37That's unfair to Todd Munkin, but you know what?
04:40It's true.
04:40This was your shot.
04:41And you've got to be a miracle worker.
04:44And dare I say, by looking at not only the Cleveland reporters,
04:48but seeing what they were saying out of Buffalo and national guys
04:53that descended upon Berea to check it out.
04:56Jeremy Fowler and others.
04:58And it was the consensus that the Browns offense looked new and improved.
05:05Yep.
05:06Even with Deshaun Watson.
05:07Ooh.
05:08Strong sentiment.
05:09Who did throw his patented Deshaun Watson...
05:14Interception.
05:14Interception.
05:15Yeah.
05:15He did.
05:16He was there.
05:17Well, you know, you can't have it all perfect.
05:20You've got to struggle a little bit.
05:22Iron is going to sharpen the iron.
05:24You've got to struggle a little bit because you can't go out there all cocky
05:28and thinking that things are going to go well.
05:29So you want to compete against the best.
05:31That's what you do.
05:32Daniel Yafusi had said that a player in the secondary was calling Shador the checkdown king.
05:40Are we sure it is C.J. Garner Johnson?
05:44Because it's been widely reported that it was him.
05:47And it makes sense.
05:48C.J. Garner Johnson is one of the greatest bleep talkers of this generation.
05:54He is known to run his mouth a lot.
05:57So if it were him, I think anybody in the secondary, hear me out on this, all right?
06:03Because this is going to go, oh, Ken's back to soft ass.
06:06Ken, wish you'd do it.
06:08No, no, hold on here.
06:10Because there was something that was said on the afternoon show that I texted Owen and Lima was so excited.
06:16Lima was so excited that I said what I said.
06:19Because we've got to stop with this soft ass excuse making crap and conspiracy theory.
06:25And I already know that I'm going to lose my mind later.
06:27I don't want to do that now.
06:29Okay.
06:30But when C.J. Garner Johnson or anybody in the secondary is sitting there telling him,
06:36check down king, check down king.
06:38To me, I mean, if we're talking about Shador starting so far behind, you're doing checkdowns.
06:47What, am I going to rip you for making the right decision?
06:51If it ain't there, it ain't there.
06:53Take what the defense gives you.
06:54Because when I hear check down king, and yeah, like if you want to be a franchise quarterback,
07:01eventually you're going to have to put it on a defense.
07:04You got to keep them honest and you got to be a threat.
07:09But when you're coming up in your NFL career and you're checking down,
07:15I'd rather you check down and get me six yards and make it second and four
07:20instead of getting picked off and flipping the field and turning things over
07:24and giving us a problem because your ego makes you go big fly
07:29because you're hearing it from the other team.
07:32That's something that we can't subscribe.
07:35So I know that I saw the internet yesterday when I got home from football practice.
07:39I know a lot of people are making fun and the AI images are coming out,
07:44which boy, we're just going to bleed our water supply so we can put fake crowns on Shador Sanders
07:48so we can get our likes and retweets off, but whatever.
07:52We're all calling him check down king.
07:54Everybody's having fun and I'm going, hey man, he's just starting out.
07:59I know he's in a second year, but he's just starting out with this group.
08:01If he's checking down, I'm not going to make fun of him for checking down as a young guy.
08:10You're making the right decision, so I think it's silly.
08:13Now, was it any different yesterday?
08:14Was Shador afraid to make mistakes yesterday as opposed to practice
08:19where he's the one throwing the ball down the field more?
08:22And in the preseason game, he threw the ball down the field.
08:25He hasn't thrown nearly as many picks as Deshaun anyway in training camp.
08:28Yeah, and I've had people explain that and said early on in practice
08:31he was afraid to kind of get rid of the football because of the tracker.
08:34Like, that he didn't want to have the interceptions on his.
08:37You've got to be effing kidding me.
08:39Well, this is what the trackers and the constant, the fan bases that look at those.
08:44Oh, if he's worried about the tracker, then just forget it.
08:46Why are we even talking?
08:47I'm not saying that.
08:48I'm saying there are people that think any time that the interceptions are being used against one,
08:55the other, and the other's not going to want to throw interceptions,
08:57so they're going to hold the ball.
08:58But that hasn't been Shador.
08:59Shador has thrown the ball.
09:01So was it just yesterday?
09:03Was it a little bit different?
09:04Was it more yesterday?
09:05He was more conservative?
09:06No, hold on here.
09:07Why do we think Deshaun Watson's going to win the job?
09:10You're sipping coffee up, but you're in a bad spot.
09:12Go ahead.
09:12No, most of it was just that he, given his 10 years experience in the NFL,
09:19that he was going to be able to take the ball and run with it from a new head coach
09:23and all of that.
09:24That's not really what I was asking for.
09:26Not operationally.
09:27Ah, that's the answer I wanted right there.
09:29Sorry for screaming into everybody's radio right there.
09:31That's the answer I wanted.
09:33Because you're trying to not play stupid football.
09:36You're trying to be as smart as you can.
09:38It is a smart decision to not try to force passes with rookie wide receivers,
09:45with guys that you still don't have a great relationship with.
09:49I mean, as far as knowing where they're going to go and knowing what they like.
09:53You can be told and things like that.
09:56You still don't know necessarily.
09:57So, again, on first and 10, I'll take second and four, or second and six even,
10:05instead of pick six 30 yards the other way.
10:08I'll take second and four over terrible interception that our defense has to go right back out there
10:14after we've given up a touchdown drive.
10:16Like, that's what I will trade that off for.
10:19And eventually, like, yeah, you're going to have to take risks, take chances,
10:22but that comes with a relationship with your wide receivers.
10:24So, if we're giving credit to Deshaun Watson for operations,
10:29getting them in and out of the huddle, knowing snap counts,
10:31being able to line guys up, et cetera, et cetera,
10:34then I think I go back to Shador Sanders.
10:36Why would I rip him for being, quote, unquote, check down king?
10:39And also, consider the source of this, because it's also C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
10:43Again, he's a tremendous trash talker.
10:45And what's he going to do?
10:47He's going to try to bait a young quarterback into doing something silly.
10:51That's part of the game.
10:52Now, the part that's missing, the missing information in all of this is,
10:56we don't know what work they wanted to get in, right?
11:00Like, you're right.
11:01It depends what part of the practice it was.
11:05Was it full 11-on-11 game simulation?
11:08Or was it, hey, we're working on, we're working at this part of the field,
11:13and we're going to run this five times?
11:15To me, it doesn't.
11:15And then we don't know, did Todd Munkin say, hey, let it fly.
11:19We've got to let it fly.
11:19We want to test him.
11:21Or we don't know that.
11:23I think that's kind of valuable information in a discussion like this.
11:25I understand what you're saying, but I'm trying to help him practice smart decisions,
11:29because he throws a nice deep ball.
11:30And he's had a couple of nice deep passes and deep touchdowns.
11:35But what did we say last year?
11:36Is that an offense?
11:38No.
11:38Because they still had one of the worst, was it the worst offense,
11:41or one of the worst offenses in the NFL?
11:43One of the two, it's still really bad.
11:45That's not an offense.
11:47Putting the ball down the field, six, eight, ten yards at a time,
11:51that's conducting an offense.
11:53I'm dead serious, guys.
11:54In a game scenario, give me eight to 12 plays in a drive that end with a touchdown
12:01instead of a big play that just gets everybody going,
12:04because you know what that's going to do?
12:05That's going to protect my defense.
12:07Okay, that's going to keep a defense honest, that I'm playing against,
12:10and it's going to protect my defense, help my defense out,
12:13that they cannot have to just get right back up after three downs
12:16and have to march back out there and try to win a game,
12:19like they had to do all last year.
12:21So if we're checking down, quote-unquote,
12:24then we're still keeping them honest to open up routes for Quinshawn Judkins,
12:29for Dylan Sampson, running lanes for them.
12:31I'm still keeping things open for my tight end.
12:33I'm still keeping things open with my tight end,
12:35where if I'm chucking down, dumping off to my tight end,
12:38I'm eventually going to find some soft coverage there
12:40to be able to hit KC Concepcion, to be able to hit Denzel Boston.
12:45You know, we can't just sit here and play on egos.
12:50I know we're radio guys, so we're wild men,
12:52but I can't just sit there and buy into egotistical plays every single time.
12:56There has to be some rhythm and some rhyme here,
12:59something that makes sense.
13:00And there's plenty of things in this training camp
13:03that Shador Sanders has done wrong.
13:05Checking down and making the right decision is not one of them.
13:09It's not one of them.
13:10So we can all have our online stuff going on,
13:13but I'm not going to, no, I'm not going to do that.
13:16I will go after him for something else later on today.
13:19And it's basically because of what I heard on afternoon drive
13:22that set me right up the wall yesterday.
13:23But in this case, no.
13:27Why am I going to rip him for making a smart decision?
13:31When the whole point of why we're about 90 plus percent sure
13:36that Deshaun Watson's going to win this job,
13:38and you and I are the only ones who are screaming in everybody's face
13:41going, you know, the money's already spent.
13:43They're trying to build a new stadium,
13:44so why are they going to try to upset you?
13:46I mean, I have people calling in saying they're going to drive in
13:48from Timbuktu to Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon
13:50to cuss this guy out on Saturday.
13:52But they want to play him to upset you.
13:55No.
13:56The reason he's going to get the job is operationally, okay?
14:01And eventually, Shador Sanders is going to get the job
14:03and will probably play more than Deshaun Watson this year.
14:05I think we're an official show stance on that.
14:08And I want him to make the smart decision.
14:10No, but we did say there was a lot riding on that joint practice yesterday
14:14that he was going to have to perform magnificently to get a shot.
14:19Now, if he was just dumping the ball off,
14:21that probably wasn't going to be enough.
14:22I understand that.
14:23But in my eyes, and probably in Todd Munkin's eyes, it was better.
14:27Listen, I know you throw a good deep ball.
14:31That's not...
14:31When he got to get the spiral down, yeah.
14:33I disagree.
14:39You feel good about that?
14:41You feel good about that?
14:42You got that off?
14:43Yeah, when he gets it down, it's a great ball.
14:46Now, what are you doing in there?
14:48Don't encourage this.
14:49When he gets his hands on the laces the right way,
14:51I saw people were picking apart his form from some of the ducks
14:55that he was throwing earlier.
14:58Preseason game, he wasn't throwing ducks.
15:00I'm just trying to make it through the season.
15:01The ones that got past the line of scrimmage.
15:02I'm just trying to make it through the season, guys.
15:04The ones that didn't get batted down.
15:05I'm just trying to make it...
15:06Are you going to say that?
15:06Are you going to have the same type of energy
15:07when we talk to these college quarterbacks coming up here in a couple weeks?
15:10Okay, I just want to make sure.
15:11We're going to put them under the microscope.
15:13I just want to make sure you're going to be nasty to them, too.
15:19I'm not the one who complained about him drifting.
15:22That was Munkin.
15:23Munkin was the one who complained, not me.
15:25And he was right to do that.
15:28I don't look like a pass to me.
15:30I thought Munkin was being too hard on him.
15:32Okay, for the love of God, take the gloves off for a second here.
15:35Do we think either of these quarterbacks are going to be here next year?
15:37Talon Green?
15:40Do we think either Deshaun Watson or Shador Sanders are going to be here next year?
15:43I mean, that touchdown to Tylan Wallace.
15:45Do you think that Deshaun Watson or Shador Sanders are going to be here next year?
15:49This came and cold-boom touchdown might be my quarterback.
15:50I don't care.
15:51Talon Green, do you want to right now?
15:53I mean, put your money where your mouth is.
15:55Talon Green, future Prouds quarterback?
15:57Future?
15:58Like, if you mean he's going to play in December, I'm with you.
16:01But I'm not saying future.
16:03I mean, he's a nice young man.
16:04I love him.
16:06But...
16:07Owen said week 18.
16:09He could be...
16:09I told him to buy.
16:11You call the young team.
16:12You'll be here in December.
16:13Why don't we see him sooner?
16:14Why not?
16:16Can I get to my point here?
16:17Hey, are the Shador fans going to be okay when...
16:21He's not going to let me.
16:21...he is in there or Watson's in there and they get yanked off the field in the red zone
16:25so Talon Green can come in and dazzle?
16:27Are they going to be mad like they were last year?
16:29Well, 2-1-6-4-7.
16:31That guy looks like a red zone weapon extraordinaire.
16:35If I can just say this real quick and then we'll hit the break, is that you don't think
16:40either of these QBs are going to be here next year.
16:42You want to take your pot shots and play your duck hunt clips and have all that for you.
16:47That's fine.
16:48I'm trying to be a serious football man here for a second, even though I'm starting to
16:52smile because of the clips that are being played.
16:53I'm trying to be a good guy.
