00:00This is the first day our rescue puppy, Rusa, met Kobe and Moki.
00:04Rusa's got an incredible story, which we'll go into later.
00:07She's really unsure of new places, and she hasn't been on a walk for over two weeks because she's been
00:12so scared.
00:13We're going to go through the first seven days with Rusa, and our goal is to try and get her
00:17to go on a walk for the first time by day seven.
00:20But first, it was all about making sure Rusa felt as comfortable as possible in her new home.
00:24She was very cautious at the start. It was a completely new home for her, but Kobe and Moki definitely
00:29helped with the nerves.
00:30They were really gentle, which meant she didn't get too overwhelmed.
00:33Moki is still a puppy and loves to play.
00:35She tried to get Rusa to play already, but she didn't completely trust them just yet.
00:39Rusa has grown up in rescue centers with other dogs, and we could definitely see that because she had amazing
00:44manners with our dog.
00:45She understood her place in the pack straight away.
00:47We tried to give her her first ice cube. Moki dropped it, and you can see Rusa's reaction.
00:53She definitely felt really on edge. It makes sense because of what she's been through, and we'll go into her
00:59story a bit later.
01:00When she did feel a bit more comfortable, she was happy to explore. As long as there were no sudden
01:05movements or loud noises, she was okay.
01:07We were coming to the end of our first day with Rusa, and we set this crate up for her
01:11in our room, so she didn't feel like she was being abandoned again.
01:14She seemed like she was beginning to trust us already, which is amazing.
01:17So we brought her into our bed to see how she would react, and she did this.
01:21We had fully prepared ourselves to not show too much affection and overwhelm the dog, but she was loving it.
01:27It felt so rewarding knowing that she felt comfortable enough to even roll on her back.
01:35We placed her in the crate with some water, left the door open, and that was probably the best a
01:40first day could get, but the second day wasn't so easy.
01:44The morning of day two, Rusa woke up looking a bit overwhelmed.
01:48She looked like she didn't really know where she was, and didn't want to leave her crate.
02:09She wasn't so sure, but we did manage to get her to feel comfortable enough to come downstairs.
02:18Kobe and Moki were taken on a walk at this point, so Rusa had some time to settle before they
02:23came back.
02:23I'm going to show you her adorable reaction when they came back, but first, it was time for Rusa's first
02:28meal.
02:29This was our first mistake.
02:30Luckily, not a big one.
02:31We're so used to having big dogs that hoover down their food.
02:34We got Rusa a slow feeder because we didn't want her eating too fast.
02:37We put the bowl down, and she was really aware of everything going around her while she was eating.
02:43Also, the slow feeder definitely was not needed.
02:45She ate so slowly, so we won't be using that again.
02:48The dogs came back from their walk, and this was Rusa's reaction.

03:00Today was all about making sure Rusa feels as comfortable and safe as possible.
03:04We do have a goal of taking her on a walk by day 7, and we'll be training her later
03:09on in the video to help her get there.
03:10We didn't want her to do too much, and next thing you know, she starts playing with Moki.
03:15It made me so happy to see that they were bonding already.
03:27This is where we honestly think we have the two perfect dogs to foster puppies.
03:31Moki is the crazy best friend to play with, and Kobe is the calm, chilled-out dog who will correct
03:36them if they need it.
03:37Is she silly, Rusa?
03:41Oh, she got the zelies!
03:47What's she doing?
03:51They all chilled out for a bit, and then this was the first time Rusa really came out her shell.
04:16Moki's really big and clumsy and managed to step on Rusa.
04:20I thought this scared her and she was done playing, but...
04:26Now she was getting a bit more comfortable, on day 3, we can start to see some of the problems
04:31Rusa has.
04:31Anytime she hears or sees something she doesn't recognize, she barks like mad.
04:36She did this again when the dogs were outside, which I found a bit strange,
04:39but I think she thought they were trapped, because when I let them in, she was so happy to see
04:44them.
04:48In day 4, we'll show you another problem Rusa has, but before that, it's time to make sure she's up
04:53to date with her worming and fleas.
04:56And the dogs even started moving a bit more like a pack, which is great to see.
05:00I could tell she was starting to trust Kobe and Moki, because in the morning of day 4,
05:04she went downstairs to see them, and I've never seen her so happy.
05:19Kobe does these playful growls, and she was really scared of them at first,
05:23but I think it's safe to say she's gotten used to them now.
05:35We then see Rusa's other problem, begging for food.
05:38Not that big a deal, as we can easily train it out of her.
05:41Speaking of training, it was time to start her training to go outside.
05:44Rusa hasn't been on a walk for weeks, and struggled with confidence around the front door,
05:49because she thought she was getting taken to go to another home.
05:51So we're just going to get her used to being around the front door, and having a leash on.
05:55We want to do really slow baby steps here, and only progress when she's ready.
06:03Rusa did amazing here.
06:05In just a moment, we're going to explain why Rusa is so scared to go outside.
06:10It's because of her story.

06:45Now let me tell you about Rusa's story.
06:47So Rusa's actually from the Ukraine, and we all know what's happening there at the moment.
06:51And as if this wasn't hard enough already, when she was only three weeks old,
06:55Rusa and her siblings were abandoned next to a motorway during December,
06:58and this is the temperature in Ukraine at that time.
07:01Only being a few weeks old, she never would have survived the night.
07:04Luckily, one of her siblings was spotted by a kind man, and all puppies were rescued.
07:09She's then been driven all the way from Ukraine to here in the UK, in search for a better home.
07:14We're going to do the best we can to find Rusa that better home.
07:17We've already had so many comments saying that we should keep her, but sadly, we can't.
07:21I'll explain why later on.
07:23In day five, we wanted to progress her training, and we needed the help of our two dogs to do
07:27this.
07:28So Rusa's going to go outside for the first time in weeks.
07:31She's going to be absolutely frightened, but we have a plan.
07:34We bought a carrier just like this for Moki when she was a puppy.
07:37It helped introduce her to the world without getting overwhelmed by it.
07:40We thought this would be perfect for Rusa.
07:42We're going to take her out with Kobe and Moki, and they're going to show her that there's nothing to
07:46be scared of outside that front door.
07:47My dogs are really good off-lead and love their walks.
07:50Rusa watching them enjoying themselves should hopefully teach her that the outside is a fun place.
07:58And so we took Rusa outside and had the two dogs with us for support.
08:05She's a bit unsettled, but Kobe would come and check on her to make sure she's okay.
08:09She was taking in all these new smells and watching the dogs play, which was great.
08:29I even stood there to let her take in all the car noises too.
08:36And then as we were walking, a kind lady stopped us to pet Rusa.
08:40This was a great test to see how she would react to a stranger on a walk.
08:44Rusa, she's from Ukraine.
08:47She's about six to seven months.
08:49She did amazing with her.
08:51She's super chilled out.
08:52This is great news because it means that hopefully she'll have the confidence to walk to this field by day
08:57seven.
08:58In day six, we try and walk her out the front door.
09:01But first, I need to explain why sadly, we can't keep Rusa.
09:05Although she has settled in so well and we love her to peace easily be a foster fail.
09:09But it wouldn't be fair to help just one pup.
09:12So sadly, she isn't going to be staying and it's going to be so hard to say goodbye.
09:16Now, let's get Rusa out the front door for the first time.
09:20We don't want to push her at all.
09:22She needed to be as comfortable as possible.
09:24She had a sniff around, listened to some of the outside noise.
09:34And then it was back inside with lots and lots of praise.
09:40We're so proud of her.
09:42She's come so far since being that scared little pup when we first got her.
09:46Rusa's gotten a second chance at life and we're so grateful for it.
09:50Kobe and Moki have helped us settle in faster than I could have ever imagined.
09:54She's our first ever foster and we feel so lucky that we ended up with her.
09:59Well, now it's time to see if all the training we've done has actually worked.
10:02Because we're going to try and walk her from our house over to the fields.
10:07Of course, we're bringing along Kobe and Moki.
10:10Rusa will feel much safer if she's with her pack.
