00:16in Cali citizens solidarity continues to be one of the main sources of relief
00:21following earthquake emergency knowing part of the city a privately owned
00:25shelter has become a refuge for many people affected by tragedy a
00:29correspondent Milton and I'll raise the details in the face of uncertainty and the
00:36lack of concrete measures from the Colombian state according to those
00:40affected these privately owned spaces and foundations have become temporary
00:44homes for families who had to abandon their residences or whose homes were
00:48destroyed by the earthquake it is an initiative born from the heart of the
00:52people of Cali it was born from a feeling we have a very large community here
00:58and I feel that the spirit of Cali has awakened in all of us we had been very
01:02fractured due to the elections but this has brought the city back together in
01:06the midst of misfortune but with a lot of love
01:10small business owners provide families with a place to spend their days and
01:14obtain food in the process they seek answers from local departmental or
01:20national government entities about their homes
01:26nothing concrete all you see is what's on social media and what the government
01:30says they supposedly said they were going to provide subsidies but so far
01:34nothing I went to the Red Cross and they told me that they weren't involved in
01:38that or in providing aid they only took my information and said it would stay in
01:42the system they said they didn't know if an architect would assess the damage and
01:46that it could happen this year or maybe next year
01:51beyond seeking their most immediate future a home the goal is to rebuild their
01:56lives for example Edwin survived injuries from a robbery in Bogota but
02:02nearly died in the earthquake upon arriving in Cali
02:07we came to organize our lives after seeing how they bashed my head in I nearly died when
02:16we arrived here things became difficult for us but God helped us again and gave us the
02:23opportunity to rebuild our lives the latest report from authorities in this
02:30South American nation puts the death toll from this catastrophe at 319 with 49
02:38deaths in Cali a total of 262 people are still missing authorities continue to recover the
02:48bodies of those who perished in the earthquake Milton Henao Telesur Colombia
