00:00last night. The player there, Wade Woodaz. What a name. In the spirit of so many college players
00:09seemingly tweaking their name pronunciations as they get to the NFL, this player's a rookie.
00:16You got to change that to Woodaz, I think. Let's just live a little here. Wade Woodaz.
00:22I watched some of it. I had the Raiders. I thought the Texans starters weren't supposed to play
00:28Stroud right down the field. Woody Marks. I mean, I don't know if he's going to be that relevant, but
00:347-0, and then Raiders come back the other way. Mike Washington, by the way, kind of a story of
00:40the
00:40preseason. Gets brought down after a big run. Then you had that, and then it's pretty much over. 14-0.
00:45Wade Woodaz. We're sticking with that. Why Devon Achan ever had to move off of A-chain way cooler?
00:56I don't know. Now we've got Trevor, or rather, well, Trevor too, but Travis and Trevor,
01:02ETN, who are now, they're calling it closer to A-chain. I'm thinking it's more like ETN. I have
01:09my pronunciation hangups. Enough about that. Here's an easy name to say. Sam Paniatovich with
01:15us on the West Her Hotline. Well, I was thinking this way last week, and I haven't heard different
01:19today. Have you settled it all since a few weeks here of running around like a crazy person?
01:26Well, I have breaking news, if I may, Mike. Please. I was going to, you know, as glasses guys,
01:33you know this. We don't have a cloth. We usually just use our shirt or our polo, whatever we're
01:37wearing. So I went to clean a smudge off the glasses about three hours ago at work, and the
01:43glasses cracked right down the middle. So the backup pair is in the moving truck that is still
01:50barreling from Boston to Chicago. So I'm going black tape over the glasses for the next couple
01:56days, I guess. Just a fantastic start to a Friday.
02:02Better than going without the glasses. You can't go without the glasses, so you're going black tape.
02:06I can't see without the glasses, Mike, and I don't have contacts because I can't touch my eye.
02:11Like, I was at the doctor many years ago, and it's a funny story, actually. I was sitting there
02:15in the chair, and they go, well, touch your eye, and I can't because my reflexes are very,
02:20very strong. So they had the doctor and the doctor assistant holding my arms down in the chair while
02:26I tried to touch my eye with the other eye, and I'm like, unless you two come over to my
02:30house every
02:30morning, this is not going to fly. Absolute torture.
02:34I'm like, if you're both going to come assist me every morning to put my contacts in and take my
02:38contacts out, that's fine. But if you watch Fox Chicago tonight, you will see a piece of black
02:45tape over the crown that holds both sets together. So it's just, it's a wonderful life, Mike.
02:52Come on, that's a major market. They don't have stacks of glasses in the back for these kind of
02:57situations. I mean, I don't know if you're nearsighted or farsighted or what, but they've
03:01got to have some sort of other plan for you than the black tape plan, I would hope.
03:05Well, we tried the Gorilla Glue and it wouldn't connect because it was a clean break right down
03:10the middle. So then we did the black tape and then sort of created a cocoon and then jammed
03:15the Gorilla Glue inside. Nobody outside of this conversation cares, but yeah, that's where we're
03:21at today, Mike. Maybe, but I'm riveted. So I don't know if that's, if that's true. How tough a shape
03:27are you in without the glasses? Like what, how bad is it? Oh God, I couldn't tell the difference
03:32between a male and a female without glasses. So, I mean, you're a young guy. This has probably
03:35been true most of your life. Yes. I had the 2020 thing for most of my life and I ended
03:45up
03:45in a, I don't know if it was my primary or even, it wasn't an eye doctor yet because I
03:49didn't have one. And somebody said, you know, when you turn 50, it's inevitable. You will
03:54need glasses. I'm like, well, I never heard that before. I thought I had great vision.
03:58I didn't, I thought it was like sort of losing your hair. Like maybe I won't. So there it
04:03was right when I turned fifth. So like five years ago. Okay. Yeah. I really can't see
04:07anymore. And I'm on the stream on Tuesday night, Sam for ADP chasing. And sometimes I
04:13will just take the, cause I have to sort of tilt my head to read the screen the way my
04:16setup works. And I'll just take them off because it's the same thing. If I don't, if I don't
04:20do this with my glasses, I won't see them. I won't see the screen anyway. So yeah, I need
04:26them to, to be able to read. And my wife is the opposite. I can't borrow her glasses
04:30because she takes hers off to read. How about that craziness?
04:34Yeah. So I'm, I'm sort of cooked and there's a really good chance cause I'm anchoring
04:38tonight at, uh, at five o'clock. So there's a really good chance that mid read the, the
04:43one side of the glasses slides out of the gorilla glued cocoon. And I am just, I am not
04:50sure what I'm going to do. Um, and I don't know if you saw the video of me last week
04:54doing
04:54the beer bong. Like I, I don't have a beer bong to bail me out for humor. You know what
04:58I'm saying?
04:59Well, you got to come up with something. I'll try to keep this relatively short. So you
05:02have time to make a contingency plans.
05:06What betting wise, what's on your mind right now? Last week we did NFL stat leaders. I
05:11just ran through another 18 division winner parlay. That's really fun. You can get to some
05:15big numbers pretty easily without betting too many real long shots. I didn't even try your
05:22Tennessee Titans when I did this exercise a few minutes ago, but you know, maybe I'll
05:26go back to it. Um, football, I mean, pro or college baseball, premier league, where are
05:32you focused?
05:34Well, I'm gobbling up Arch Manning stock left and right. And I, I think that there's still,
05:40I mean, for those of you driving around, well, then again, you can't even bet the Heisman in
05:44New York. Can you?
05:44No. Oh, bummer. I, I personally though, keep adding Arch Manning at anything North of eight
05:52to one to win the Heisman trophy. Uh, of course he's the nephew of Peyton and Eli, and he was
05:58the consensus favorite this time last year. And I remember I was in Vegas for bet bash
06:03and one of the casinos in Vegas had him at plus five 50. And I thought that's just never
06:09going to get my money because he's never really been a full-time starter. He started a couple
06:14of games. I think when Quinn, you were got hurt the year before, but he was coming in
06:17as the starter. And I thought I'm never betting that at plus five 50 and most books like drafting
06:23FanDuel about MGM had about six to one, six and a quarter. And he struggled early as one
06:29does in the sec. Right. And they started against Ohio state and he was not ready. And, and it
06:33was a tough early part of the season, but he got really good at the end. And go look at
06:38Arch Manning's box score down the stretch. So you have the full season of seasoning.
06:43You, you have a better offensive line. You have better wide receivers via the portal
06:47and you have a year under the system. So he's a better quarterback on a better team.
06:52And guess what? There's an eight to one. There's a plus eight 50 at FanDuel.
06:56What am I missing? I get the same player who's better, more seasoned, and I get two and a half
07:02dollars more rather than six to one last summer. Now I get plus 800 plus eight 50. What am I
07:07missing?
07:08Well, there is an answer to that, right? I don't know what it is. What is it? So is it
07:13another
07:13player? Another, another player's in a better situation as well. What is the reason for that?
07:19Well, CJ Carr is favored. He's the Notre Dame quarterback who many are saying could be a
07:23first overall pick, but so could Arch. I mean, Carr's really good. I mean, he was a stud last
07:28year as a freshman, uh, took Notre Dame, uh, to a position where they probably should have
07:33gotten in the playoff. My thing though, is, you know, Carr's great. Arch is great. Manning faces
07:39the toughest schedule in the country. You ask a bookmaker who's got the toughest schedule. The
07:45answer is Texas eight out of 10 guys. So if they go 10 and to make the playoff at Texas,
07:51he's winning the Heisman and he's a dual threat guy, right? He can throw, he can run,
07:56he can throw on the run. He's a really special player. And I think, you know, the name does
08:02everything. I just, I think it's a really good bet to make right now. And understand I'm not somebody
08:07who says this every summer. Oh, let's bet the guy near the top of the board. Like usually when I
08:11bet
08:11the Heisman, I'm looked in 20 to one, 30 to one, 40 to one. I want to find the guy
08:17that the market
08:17isn't up on, or maybe, you know, isn't fully grasping how good they could be. I've never been a guy
08:25to bet somebody near the top. So car is seven to one. Arch is like eight to one, eight 50.
08:30I'm betting Arch because I think he's going to come out gangbusters. And I think there's a good
08:34chance by October he's three to one or four to one. Um, now understand the, the favorite,
08:40the Heisman favorite in the summer has not won since Marcus Mariota. That's over 10 years ago.
08:47Now, Arch technically is not the favorite. He's the second favorite, but that's where I'm at. And I
08:52know Zach Jones, your producer, like I know him hearing me talk about that. It probably excites
08:57him a bit, but it also probably terrifies him a bit because now I'm throwing this into the
09:01atmosphere. Well, it's good that he's not the favorite at least for that streak. Um, what
09:07about teams and whether that's the playoff or the national championship, are you going
09:11likewise with Texas or what? No, I don't like Texas to win the whole thing. Um, the playoff
09:17is so weird because like, you know, these teams that have great regular seasons and I think Texas
09:21will be just fine. These teams that have a buy in the playoff, man, are one in seven
09:25in the playoff. Isn't that crazy? Um, including, I believe the first year of the playoff where
09:31every team that had a buy lost. So it's tough to sort of navigate the playoff given the new,
09:36you know, 12 team format and the teams all getting the buy. Here's a team that I really
09:41do like this year though. And you can get plus money on this over. It's the Minnesota golden
09:45gophers. What? I know. I know. I only on show up in the bulldog. Well, you hear this. I promise
09:50you. We're not here talking about glasses on. Yeah. My glasses are on and they're taped.
09:55Okay. I know everybody wants to talk about Oregon and Ohio state and Texas and you name
10:01it. Minnesota is going to win eight or nine games this year. And their win total is six
10:05and a half depending on the book. It's either 25 plus one 30 or plus one 32 to go over
10:14that
10:14six and a half. We need seven wins. I think they're going to get eight or nine. Um, the
10:18schedule is very doable. They have a swing game against Mississippi state week number
10:22two, which I think they're going to win. And they are one of 12 teams in the country
10:27that bring back head coach, offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, and the starting quarterback.
10:33There's a ton of stability there. They also have a guy named Anthony Smith who might be
10:38the best defensive end in the big 10, just a monster in terms of getting to the quarterback.
10:42He led the big 10 in sacks last year. So there's a lot to like there. I saw PJ Fleck
10:47at big 10
10:47media day here in Chicago. They are, they are very, very optimistic about this season. And here's
10:53the list of teams, by the way, 12 teams, like I said, head coach, OC, DC quarterback, Arizona,
10:58Boise state, Charlotte, Delaware, Florida, Atlantic, Georgia, Houston, Minnesota, NC state,
11:07New Mexico, Notre Dame, Oklahoma. Those are 12 teams because of everything they bring back.
11:13I will look to bet individually as well in the first couple of weeks of the season.
11:18How crazy is it that there are only 12 such teams? It's just like, it's four positions.
11:24Everybody's running around. These are not even the players except for quarterback.
11:27And still there's that kind of craziness there. Minnesota, September 3rd. So two weeks from
11:34maybe tomorrow, uh, they open with Eastern Illinois minus 43 and a half.
11:39Hmm. I'd probably lay it before I take it, but I did not get invested yet. I'll tell you the
11:45one
11:45bet I am going to make. I'm going to take, we were talking about this on bear bets. Oklahoma plays
11:49UTEP. Uh, that's the first, I believe it's week one, not week zero. And with a total of 49,
11:58the spread is 42. They're basically saying 42, 45 and a half to three and a half.
12:06Well, here's what's going to happen. It's going to be 45 to nothing. And UTEP will have the ball
12:10at the three yard line with two seconds to go. Let's go. They're going to throw a fade into the
12:14corner. We're going to need some backup to let's go to slip on a banana peel at Oklahoma. But they're
12:20going to, at that point, they're going to be craving the shutout. That's exactly what's going to
12:23happen. You know it. And I know it. We're going to need a touchdown on the final play. It's almost
12:27here. All this excitement is almost here next week. There are games. Do you happen to,
12:32do you have to take note of St. Louis Cincinnati yesterday in baseball? I didn't see a single
12:37pitch. What happened? Sam, it's four, nothing Cardinals into the seventh or the, I said the
12:41seventh. It might've been the sixth four, nothing Cardinals at the Reds. Reds get five in the
12:46inning. Top of the ninth, two out, two on Reds up five, four dropped fly ball for two runs.
12:54St. Louis gets four more 10, five Cincinnati gets four back loads. The bases flies out to the
13:01wall to end it. Oh, and I was thinking about a minus one and a half better on St. Louis.
13:06Just like we're, we got it. We're dead. We got it. We lost one of those kinds of games that
13:13you
13:13might more often see in other sports, but that was kind of a, you know, a tough one for, for
13:18that
13:18person. If you could get St. Louis minus one and a half yesterday, probably could. I have no issue
13:24with people betting baseball. I think watching baseball, especially when you have a bet on it is
13:29terrifying. And one of my buddies, Nick Bogdanovich, who's worked in Vegas for decades, he famously
13:34gave the line on a radio show once. He said, if you want to bet and watch baseball, I just
13:40combined bet and watch to betch. If you'd like to betch baseball, Mike, you need a bottle of
13:46whiskey and a revolver. And I thought, well, maybe that's a little dramatic, but oh man, I
13:53mean the swings in baseball games sometimes, man, they're unfathomable.
13:57I don't even really know why I did it, but I had Netto to hit a home run last night
14:01and
14:01he did. And he drove in seven runs, which I didn't have over six and a half RBIs. If
14:06that was even something you could get.
14:08You're about that action, Mike. That's what it's all about. By the way, I am, by the way,
14:12guess what happens this weekend for us?
14:15Oh, wow. The White Sox and the Mets.
14:17Well, the White Sox are on 66. I imagine either tonight, tomorrow, or Sunday, we're
14:26going to get that 67th win. And I have a bunch of people from WGR that are messaging
14:30me every time the White Sox win, because we need one more win to get over that win
14:36total. What a horrible number that was in Vegas. 66 and a half. They're going to get
14:39there this weekend.
14:40Awesome. All I have is the playoffs at 20 to win 250.
14:46That's a good bet, Mike. I mean, you're a favorite to win the division right now. They
14:52should get there.
14:52Huge favorite. All right, Sam, anything else? I mean, good luck with your glasses. How long
14:57is this going to take to get the next ones?
15:01Well, ironically enough, my eye insurance hasn't kicked in yet with a new job. So that'll be
15:05fun to go get an eye exam, because I can't take an old eye exam to get a new pair
15:09of glasses.
15:09So it's a whole cluster. I can't wait to see how this unfolds.
15:13It could be kind of funny if intentionally you sat down to do your sports report and
15:19couldn't see and just sort of winged it. I don't know if your boss would like it or find
15:24it amusing, but if you meant to do it, it might be funny. Hey, my glasses just broke.
15:30I assure you, I did not. I need these to survive.
15:35All right. Thanks for today. Enjoy your weekend. Bulldog back with me next week as we get closer
15:39to real games. Fantastic. Good to talk to you, Mike.
15:42You too, Sam. Sam Paniatovich on the Worcester Hotline, Fox, Chicago. Three games tonight
15:48in the preseason.
15:48and
