00:00A Texans lose last night to the Raiders in the second preseason game.
00:04Way more good than bad coming out of that game, I would say, though.
00:07Yeah.
00:07Despite the final score.
00:08Yeah, no, and if this was a regular season game,
00:10we would have been talking about nothing but the fourth quarter
00:14for the entire show because it is.
00:17That's two minutes.
00:18If you judge this by regular season standards,
00:20they blew a game in which they had a three-score lead
00:23and squandered every opportunity to just close it out at the end.
00:27It was bad.
00:28It was bad.
00:28But it's preseason.
00:29It's a bunch of guys that you're not overly worried about, et cetera, et cetera.
00:33It does.
00:34Online gambling has made preseason games a lot more fun to watch on social media
00:39because this was one.
00:40There was a nice – yeah, the Texans put out a nice clip from the game last night
00:45where Laura Rutledge was talking about Keelan Rutledge and his wife
00:50and how he's been snapping the ball to her 150 times per game.
00:53His name is Lauren Rutledge.
00:54Yeah, boy, that is –
00:56That would have been a nightmare for you.
00:58It's a fact that I didn't screw that up somehow.
01:00I had so much doubt along the way.
01:03One of the replies,
01:06these bleeping bleep bleepers couldn't get one yard when it was second one
01:10and instead punt and lose to the Raiders on a one-minute drive?
01:13Yeah.
01:14Rigged bleeping bleep bleep bleep.
01:16Yeah.
01:17I thought about that, dude.
01:19I thought about – I'm like, there were gamblers.
01:23That was a sportsbook moment last night.
01:25Yeah, yeah.
01:26There were people that gamble on these games.
01:27Yeah, what was the line on that game?
01:29I'm sure it was probably like Texans three and a half or something.
01:32It's a preseason game.
01:33So no preseason game has a big line or anything because they're all –
01:36Because it's a crapshoot.
01:38It's a crapshoot, yeah.
01:40So Will Anderson –
01:42It's a crapshoot, also known as the fourth quarter of a preseason game.
01:46Yes.
01:46It's another metaphor for –
01:48Yep, yep.
01:49So the Texans were the subject of a big Sports Illustrated feature.
01:55Really good.
01:56If you subscribe, I don't know if the article is behind a paywall or not.
02:00I subscribe to it, so I got to read it yesterday.
02:03It's a long-form article by Connor Orr about the Texans' defense.
02:06It's not behind a paywall because I read it.
02:08You did?
02:08Yeah.
02:08Okay.
02:09I don't pay for it.
02:10So go find – yeah, I do.
02:14So go find it if you're up for reading it this weekend.
02:17It's a really good article about the Texans' defense.
02:20Part of it, though, they –
02:22And I don't know if it was Connor Orr that did this piece of content or not,
02:26but as an adjacent piece of content to the article,
02:30they drove around with Will Anderson for a day here in Houston.
02:34Yeah.
02:34They went to the Post with him where he likes to go eat at the food court.
02:39They went to some other places he likes to go to in Houston.
02:41They obviously were at the facility with him.
02:43It was cool.
02:44It was about an 18-minute YouTube.
02:46There was a point in there where they did a sit-down with Will also,
02:51like an interview, and they asked him about draft night.
02:55And he said something where I'm like, okay,
02:57there's always a debate as to who the worst-run team in the NFL is.
03:01In the current state of the NFL, if you look at the bottom of the standings,
03:05I think there's an argument for any of these teams that are viewed as the
03:08dregs of the league right now, the Jets, the Browns, the Dolphins,
03:13the Cardinals.
03:14I think those are widely viewed as –
03:15The Cardinals, who seem to have a major lawsuit once per year.
03:17Yeah.
03:17Yeah.
03:18It extends on into all aspects of the business.
03:21And who grade terribly on that player evaluation, that player survey.
03:25The Cardinals are always at the bottom.
03:27So, Will Anderson Jr. was talking about his experience on draft night
03:31where the Texans traded with the Cardinals to move up and get him at number three.
03:35What was that like, sitting in the green room?
03:36Take a listen to this.
03:38Houston was my first 30 visit.
03:39And, man, I fell in love with it.
03:41And I told my agent after that visit, I was like, I don't care what you got to do.
03:45I want to be in Houston.
03:46So, draft night, come around.
03:47They take my boy Bryce with the Carolina Panthers first.
03:50And then CJ goes.
03:52Arizona's on the clock on the green screen.
03:53I could tell, like, me and Arizona, we didn't have the best relationship.
03:56And so, they're still up.
03:57And I get a phone call from Houston and D'Amico.
04:00I'm thinking he's calling me, like, hey, man, like, sorry we couldn't get you.
04:03You know, and he was like, we're drafting you.
04:07That was, like, the highlight of my night.
04:08Like, I wanted to be there.
04:09I wanted my family to be there.
04:11I wanted to play with these guys.
04:12I wanted to get coached by him.
04:13It just felt like a dream come true.
04:15Okay.
04:15Yeah.
04:16Your ears perked up at the exact spot that mine did.
04:19I didn't have the best relationship with them.
04:20I didn't have the best relationship with Arizona.
04:26How big a jackass, jerk NFL franchise do you need to be to have a bad relationship with Will Anderson
04:34Jr.?
04:35Right, right, right, right.
04:36Yeah.
04:36And I can just.
04:37Like, how do you not, like, how, like, whatever that, like, didn't have a great relationship with them.
04:43Now, I wonder if that just means they hadn't been in contact the way that he had been with the
04:47Texans.
04:47I'm trying to figure out a way for the Cardinals to get the benefit of the doubt here.
04:51I don't know why.
04:52But I didn't have a great relationship with them.
04:54Did somebody, like, insult them?
04:55There's no way to spin that, really, is there?
04:57I don't know.
04:58Not when you're the Cardinals.
04:59No.
05:00Not when.
05:01In the meantime, the great irony in that is how many people were acting like the Cardinals really pulled one
05:06off of that.
05:07Oh, totally.
05:07Oh, boy, look at the masterful new move by the Cardinals.
05:10And the Cardinals, the Cardinals were part of the, you know, the big reason why that was the narrative around
05:17it.
05:18Because, remember, they put out that, that, that war room video of Monty Austin Ford closing the deal.
05:24And they made it look like Monty Austin Ford had just worked over Nick Casario.
05:29Fleece Nick Casario.
05:29Yeah.
05:30And not to mention they gave up their own first, or was it first round pick?
05:34Who, the Texans?
05:35Yeah.
05:35Yeah, they traded.
05:36They didn't give up the Browns one.
05:38Right, right, right.
05:38Mind you, the Texans were bad the last couple years.
05:41That's a great point, Figgy.
05:42Yeah.
05:42No, and everybody knew.
05:43At that point, everybody knew.
05:44People were saying this like it was a fact.
05:45Yeah.
05:45They're going to have, they're going to be the worst team in the league this year.
05:48Yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:49That was.
05:49That'll be the first pick in the draft.
05:51Yeah, yeah.
05:51Like, the Browns might be good this year.
05:53They should have given up the Browns pick.
05:54Yeah.
05:55Texans, that's a top five pick.
05:56Yeah.
05:56Yeah, whatever.
05:58Great point.
05:59But, yeah, that's, I heard that.
06:00I'm like, okay, if I'm a Cardinal fan and I hear that, imagine being a Cardinal fan watching
06:05that.
06:05Like, you could have taken Will Anderson three, and end of story, end of day.
06:09If they had to do it over again, I'm guessing that's what they would do.
06:12Yeah.
06:12At three, they would take Will Anderson, because I, you know, I've seen the graphics that have
06:16been made on what the Cardinals use those picks on.
06:19Yeah.
06:19And what the, you know, and obviously, and what Will Anderson's done since the Texans made
06:24that trade.
06:25Hell, I think even, the Texans got like another pick back in that trade.
06:29Like, it was the Texans traded like a second, a first, the 12th pick, and like another pick
06:35for Will Anderson in like a third or a fourth.
06:38And I think that fourth turned into Kalen Bullock, if I'm not mistaken.
06:41Sean, I'm just thinking about, okay, so like, we're reading a whole lot into Will Anderson
06:45just saying, I didn't have a great relationship with the Cardinals.
06:49This is where, I'm going to try to give the Cardinals the benefit of the doubt here.
06:53No, you're going to understand completely what I'm saying here.
06:55Okay.
06:56All right.
06:57Will Anderson, everything we know about Will Anderson and the way he operates, his personality,
07:03the fact that he's a defensive player.
07:05If you have to choose between two defensive-minded head coaches that maybe you've had conversations
07:09with, in the one hand, you have D'Amico Ryans.
07:13On the other hand, Jonathan Cannon.
07:16Yeah.
07:17Jonathan Cannon, who's like the weirdest, one of the weirdest dudes I've ever seen as a head
07:22coach in the NFL.
07:24Pew, pew, pew, pew.
07:25Yeah, I thought the same thing.
07:27Pew, pew, pew, pew, pew.
07:28Yeah, good job, Figgy.
07:30I'm glad you knew how I was going with that.
07:32Yeah, like this is, so for him to say, I didn't have a great relationship with the Cardinals,
07:36I wonder if it was as simple as, man, I met D'Amico and I loved him and he's the
07:42best guy
07:43and those two have the Alabama connection and everything else that he just, like, he's a fit
07:48with D'Amico Ryans.
07:49Absolutely.
07:49And he probably didn't feel that same thing with Jonathan.
07:52It's impossible to.
07:53He probably sat down with Jonathan Cannon and Jonathan Cannon was like, wow, I tell you,
07:57you just, I watch you on film and you're all zing, zong, zing, zah.
08:02The onomatopoeias that I could come up with for you.
08:05Oh, yeah.
08:05I really, listen, Will, I'm an onomatopoeia connoisseur and I've just, I've had to create
08:11new ones for you.
08:12Will, I watch the way you truck people off the edge and I'm like, rrrr.
08:15Oh, yeah, you had that one, you had that one, yeah, you had that one swim move that was
08:26like a kerplunkety-doo.
08:29Skablunk, skablunk, skablunk.
08:31It was, yeah, so I think it might have been as simple as that.
08:35I think that D'Amico, I think D'Amico and Will are obviously such a good fit with each
08:39other.
08:40Yeah, this is Jonathan Cannon.
08:43Which receiver was he talking to?
08:45Rondell Moore.
08:46Rondell Moore, yeah.
08:46R-I-P.
08:47When he had met him.
08:48He's no longer with us, Rondell Moore.
08:50Oh, yeah.
08:50Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:52Jonathan Cannon had nothing to do with it.
08:54Way to bring it down, Sean.
08:55Yeah, yeah, no, well, it's, you know, thoughts and prayers to Rondell Moore and his family.
09:01But yeah, I think Will Anderson Jr. can connect with anybody, except maybe Jonathan
09:06Gannon and fuh, fuh, fuh, fuh, fuh, fuh, fuh, fuh, fuh, fuh, fuh, fuh.
09:11The other part, too, is that, like, I think Will probably maybe had some, you know, people
09:15had filled him in on what a mess Arizona has been.
09:17Yeah.
09:18And the culture, et cetera, et cetera.
09:21He wasn't feeling it the same way he was feeling it with D'Amico.
09:24And now that says, the Texans didn't have the best word of mouth at that point either.
09:29No word of mouth.
09:29Right, right, yeah.
09:30I mean, that's how much, if you want to know about, like, just how much of an effect D'Amico
09:35Ryans has had on this franchise, I don't think that Will Anderson, given other various other
09:40coaches that could have been there, that he would have felt the same way about the Texans
09:44going into it.
09:45That was the coolest thing about draft night, was, aside from them taking CJ and Will and
09:50the drama of the trade and everything, the coolest thing was Will Anderson Jr.'s interview
09:54where, when he got drafted, and he said, Houston was my first visit, and that's where I
09:59wanted to be.
10:00And at that point, Texan fans were such a collective, scalded dog, you know, that we
10:04were all like, really?
10:07That's awesome.
10:07You want to be?
10:08Feels like this is kind of a check against them in a weird way.
10:13Are you sure you want to be here?
10:15And now, and now, like, now it's amazing.
10:18Yeah.
10:18You know, now it's amazing.
