00:00I don't know how the Browns recover from that.
00:03I don't know how they can put him back on the field here in Cleveland ever again.
00:07Maybe, you know what?
00:08Hey, here's a, here's a, this would be the Brownsiest Browns move ever.
00:13And I'm all for giving the Browns bad ideas.
00:19Because they don't, they never take my good ones, except for when it came to the stadium.
00:22They did build that where I said they should 15 years ago.
00:26But, I don't know, maybe Shador Sanders starts the home games and Deshaun starts the road games.
00:31How about that, Nick?
00:33You got dual QB ones, they both win the quarterback competition.
00:37I mean, Daryl, he literally sounded like he would prefer to play 17 road games.
00:44Like, he actually sounded like in that clip that he was ready to withdraw himself from this quarterback competition.
00:53Like, that's what it sounded like.
00:55Like, and we actually, I think he did.
00:56Daryl, we all said going into yesterday that this competition was over.
01:01It was decided.
01:02It was Deshaun's job to lose.
01:04And the only thing that could prevent Deshaun Watson from starting week one in Jacksonville was an epic meltdown.
01:12Yeah.
01:12I think that qualifies as an epic meltdown.
01:15Well, he had, what, three three and outs, then the interception, or two three and outs and the interception.
01:21Just a train wreck of a performance on the field.
01:23Again, no disrespect to the Buffalo players, but like, that.
01:28Not starters or backups out there.
01:30You're not going to see a lot of those guys this season is the way I'm going to put that.
01:34Because I just, again, respect in sports.
01:38I'm going to be respectful.
01:40You know, normally I'd sit here and have some fun and talk about guys bagging groceries in a couple of
01:44weeks.
01:44Selling insurance.
01:45Right, like, I'm not going to do that, okay?
01:48These guys will be looking for football jobs elsewhere, or unfortunately their dreams of playing in the National Football League
01:56will ultimately come to an end.
01:57And they will have to do something.
01:59Yeah, there are spring leagues now.
02:02They're going to have to do something else, right?
02:03Right, so, and he did not look like he belonged on the field.
02:10And look, I thought it was set up for him to light it up, and then it'd just make it
02:15so easy for Todd Monken to say,
02:17yeah, you know, Deshaun's a veteran.
02:19I trust him with everything we're asking him to do offensively.
02:22He showed that in the preseason.
02:24He can operate, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
02:27And you can't do it now.
02:29You cannot.
02:33Deshaun basically talked himself out of that job yesterday.
02:39And here's the problem that I have with Deshaun's point of view.
02:47And then we'll get into the booing and all that kind of stuff.
02:52Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com, Plain Dealer, Orange and Brown Talk podcast.
02:56She, Pro Football Hall of Famer, should also mention that.
03:01She asked Deshaun, I believe it was on Tuesday or Wednesday.
03:05I forget the day that, I think it was Wednesday when the quarterbacks talked.
03:10Just an innocent question, but also a fair question because of, and Deshaun obviously mentioned it, right?
03:16What happened before, asked him, hey, you know, what if you get booed on Saturday?
03:23And his response was, I don't care.
03:26Fine.
03:26Perfectly acceptable answer.
03:29If it was true.
03:31And it wasn't.
03:33Clearly he cares.
03:35Clearly he's hurt by it.
03:36Clearly he's bothered by it.
03:37He admitted it.
03:38He admitted it yesterday.
03:40Finally.
03:41It has taken him five years to do so, but it is finally.
03:45He dropped the tough guy act.
03:47And admitted that it's impacting him, that he's not the same beloved figure that he was in Houston.
03:53And honestly, Daryl.
03:54And by the way, that's his own doing.
03:56That because he is washed on the field, I think the realization hit him yesterday that he's never going to
04:02be able to reach that point with these fans.
04:05It's untenable.
04:06We have reached untenable.
04:07And you thought it was bad before?
04:09Or, well, you really burnt the bridge to repairing it when you went up on the podium and pretty much
04:15called out and challenged those fans for booing.
04:18That's where we're at right now.
04:19Yeah.
04:20I mean, it's almost.
04:22He challenged the Browns fans.
04:23And it's like, I don't.
04:25And I know you want to talk about the booing.
04:27I don't have an issue with it.
04:29But if you pay for those seats in those, yeah, I mean, look, in those conditions, I think that here,
04:38it's easy for me to sit in a press box and say the fans can do whatever the fans want
04:48to do.
04:48They pay their hard-earned money.
04:51And it's their right if they want to boo, they should be able to boo.
04:55And I do believe that, you know, as long as you're not making threats, as long as you're not, if
05:03you're just booing, if you're saying you stink, you suck, like, that's part of being a fan.
05:10Yep.
05:11Okay?
05:15And is it a good look?
05:17No.
05:18It's not a good look to boo your own guy.
05:21But Deshaun was never, was just never really one of the guys here.
05:26His first, you know, the fans couldn't even get excited about the blockbuster trade because the entire summer was spent
05:35talking about what he was accused of doing.
05:39And again, I don't know if he did it or not.
05:42Okay?
05:43He wasn't charged with a crime.
05:45They couldn't lean into him.
05:46He was sued.
05:48He settled out of court with the accusers, and that's that.
05:52From a marketing standpoint, they couldn't lean into him.
05:54They couldn't post him on social because it was nothing but trolls.
05:57They didn't put his image on the side of the stadium until a few years ago because they couldn't.
06:02Last week, the NFL, when they were promoting Browns versus Bears, couldn't even use Deshaun's picture.
06:08They used Shador's, and Shador didn't even start the game.
06:12That's where we're at with this thing, dude.
06:14Non-marketable commodity.
06:17I remember his first training camp practice.
06:21It was the—I actually threw up that night when I went back and looked at the photos because I was
06:29so disgusted by what the Browns did that day.
06:34They brought these moms and other young women, lined them up on the practice field with little girls and had
06:50Deshaun go through and shake hands and take photos and sign autographs.
06:54And made it look like they were just standing there.
06:58Embracing him, welcoming him.
07:00It was the most tone-deaf, disrespectful, disgusting thing the Browns have done from a PR standpoint.
07:09And they've had a lot of PR blunders over the years.
07:13But that was up there.
07:14I vomited that night when I was going through those photos that I took of that scene and looked at
07:22the video that I took of that scene to present him in that fashion.
07:28While, by the way, he was still negotiating a suspension with the NFL League office.
07:33Right.
07:33It hadn't come out at that point.
07:35How much time he was going to miss.
07:37And there was speculation on both ends.
07:39That was the entire offseason.
07:40How much time is he going to miss?
07:41Did he do it?
07:42And what's he going to look like when he comes back?
07:45And we quickly found that he didn't look very good.
07:48And here we still sit.
07:49And that was funny because when the game ended yesterday, if we want to take a little bit lighthearted look
07:55at this, when the game ended yesterday and he completed four passes and had a 14 quarterback rating, you were
08:03able to kind of make the jokes like, well, wait till he knocks that rust off.
08:07Ha ha ha.
08:08Going into the fifth year of the contract.
08:09If he could finally get back to 2019 form, we'll really have something here.
08:14Like you knew what it is from an on-field perspective.
08:17He's completely washed.
08:18But then when he approaches the podium after the game and says what he says, it sounds like a guy
08:25that literally has no interest being the starting quarterback for this team anymore.
08:29So why should this even be a conversation?
08:32Like it is so he has made this so easy for Todd Mungin.
08:36Yeah, it's right there.
08:37He pretty much told you he doesn't want to play in front of these fans ever again.
08:41You can't play.
08:42You cannot play 17 road games.
08:45You can't move this thing to Columbus.
08:47Not anymore.
08:47That was maybe an idea when you were trying to figure out the stadium.
08:51That's dead.
08:51You can't play in Ohio stadium with the Buckeye fans.
08:55You've got to play in that building.
08:56And if he can't play in that building,
08:59start your door Sanders.
09:00It's all right there for you.
09:02I was walking down the ramp and to get to the locker room yesterday with Andy Baskin and the thought
09:15in my head was, boy, this just got even tougher for Todd Mungin.
09:19Right.
09:20Might he have to push this decision through the one more week?
09:25Coming up the elevator after postgame.
09:32I don't know what the hell they do now.
09:36You're past the point of no return.
09:38It's an ugly divorce now.
09:40The parents aren't talking to each other.
09:42The player hates the fans.
09:43The fans hate the player.
09:44Hey, Daryl, it should have been a divorce when the owner said it was a swing and a miss.
09:50You let it end there.
09:52Well, that's really how it ends.
09:54This soft launch back over these last couple of months, it's really been a soft launch in the works since
10:02February where they've tried to prime us that Deshaun Watson's going to be the starting quarterback of this thing.
10:08They had ownership going on shows talking about how good Deshaun looked at the end of last season, how helpful
10:15he was to the young quarterbacks.
10:16They were really trying to sell this fan base on Deshaun Watson again, and this fan base rejected it.
10:23Well, and also, too, Deshaun wasn't very good.
10:27Like, lost in this whole thing, okay, is that Deshaun just wasn't very good in the offseason program.
10:36No.
10:36He wasn't very good in training camp.
10:38He had his moments.
10:39He had his good days.
10:40He had more bad days than good, in my view.
10:43Yep.
10:43Okay?
10:44At least with Shador Sanders, there's an incline.
10:47There's hope.
10:48You can start him this year and sell your fans on.
10:51We're going to take a look and see what this kid can do.
10:54There's hope there.
10:56He's gotten better.
10:57We want to reward him for his hard work.
11:00You can sell that.
11:02But see, they've even botched that.
11:05Because now, it's the default.
11:07It's what you're left to do.
11:09Right.
11:10Which, quite frankly, isn't fair to Shador Sanders.
11:14It isn't.
11:16It makes it look like he didn't win this competition.
11:20It makes it look like.
11:21Deshaun hit the eject button.
11:23Right.
11:23He handed in his resignation.
11:26Right.
11:27He took the knee.
11:29I don't blame Browns fans for not liking Deshaun Watson.
11:32What's he done here?
11:33What's he accomplished?
11:35What good moment has he provided Browns fans?
11:39Other than an uncomfortable feeling every time we're forced to discuss him.
11:44Other than ruining five seasons, including this coming season.
11:50And now, the salary cap ramifications, they can't cut him.
11:54Well, they can't cut him.
11:55But then it messes up next year.
11:57Right.
11:57But then now, that'll be a sixth season that he sticks you with as a fan.
12:04Do you just tell him, hey, dude, it's not working.
12:06Go home.
12:06Do you do one of those?
12:07You're not cut, but go home.
12:09We will honor your contract because we're legally obligated to do it.
12:13But please, for the love of everything holy, get out of here.
12:16And then it makes it easy.
12:17Shador, Gabriel, Talon Green.
12:19Them are your quarterbacks.
12:22I mean, this is, again, I have seen a lot with this franchise over the last 27 years.
12:33This one's up there.
12:35The mess that they have created, and shame on them.
12:38Shame on Jimmy and Dee Haslam.
12:42Shame on J.W. Johnson and Whitney Johnson.
12:46Shame on all of you for putting us in this position and trading for this guy.
12:54And asking everybody to turn a blind eye to the accusations and the suspension and the settlement.
13:03Not settlement.
13:04Settlements.
13:07Shame on all of you for doing this to Browns fans.
13:11And now, Browns fans got to be lectured by, I don't know, the new up-and-comer about respect in
13:17sports and how disrespectful it was to Boo Deshaun Watson.
13:20And tonight, I'm going to tell you guys about the 2-1 T.J.
13:20I'll see you soon.
13:20If you can order you or you canoue hear us afterwards, I'll show you soon.
13:21If you're out to unsc threaded our other town.
