00:01Former PKR Vice President Zuraida Kamaruddin says she has no intention of rejoining the party,
00:07despite President Anwar Ibrahim's call for veterans to return to the fold.
00:12Zuraida stated that she was instead focused on the Jelaja Payung Besar,
00:16also known as the Big Umbrella Tour campaign with several NGOs,
00:20aimed at encouraging more Malays to vote in the next general election.
00:23The campaign is said to also focus on explaining issues
00:27surrounding Article 153 of the Federal Constitution,
00:30claiming the article's legitimacy had been jeopardized by the interference of non-Malay leaders in government.
00:36The article covers safeguards for Malays and natives of East Malaysia
00:40in areas including public service positions, scholarships, permits and licenses.
00:46Zuraida told FMT she did not plan to respond to Anwar's call for the time being.
00:50She was among 11 MPs who left PKR with Azmin Ali in February 2020,
00:55before joining Bersatu during the Sheraton move,
00:58which led to the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.
01:01Former Bandatun Razak MP Kamaruddin Jafar and former Nibong Tobal MP Mansur Osman,
01:07who also left PKR during the Sheraton move,
01:10were previously reported to be considering a return to the party.
01:13PKR later sued Zuraida claiming she breached a contractual bond signed before the 2018 general election
01:19by leaving the party to join Bersatu.
01:21The bond required her to pay PKR 10 million ringgit within seven days if she resigned to join another party
01:27or became an independent MP.
01:30The Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled in PKR's favor in 2023 and awarded the party 10 million ringgit.
01:36The Court of Appeal, however, later reduced the amount to 100,000 ringgit in 2024
01:42after ruling the original sum was unreasonable.
