00:00Just got traded to Houston. I think we saw the writing on the wall, actually.
00:06I think it was about a week ago we mentioned this, because Jaden Higgins at Houston ended up suffering a
00:11season-ending ACL tear,
00:13and of course because of the Patriots' relationship with all of the decision-makers over at Houston,
00:18we said, well, that seems like it would probably be a most likely place for him to go, and sure
00:21enough, that's what they did.
00:22The Patriots are reportedly trading Kayshaun Booty to the Texans for safety Jalen Reed,
00:28and we are now finding out that this draft pick kind of stinks.
00:32It is a 28th-seventh-round pick, the Saints won, which I guess that they got.
00:39So it is a 28th-seventh-rounder, and it looks like a – I'm kind of reading up on this
00:46safety that they just got,
00:47because he didn't play much. He was a sixth-round pick, is that right?
00:50Another Jalen. We got rid of a Jalen over on the basketball team, so we needed one back.
00:54Yeah, so Jalen, he was drafted in the sixth round last year.
00:57Well, he is a safety. Only played in seven games last year and had 14 tackles,
01:05and then the rest of his stat line is a bunch of zeros.
01:08So obviously not an impact player, and it is amazing that Kayshaun Booty, at the end of the day,
01:16went for less draft stock than what he was actually drafted in.
01:20I mean, he was a sixth-round draft pick.
01:22And I – everyone loves Kayshaun Booty, and I get it.
01:26I mean, how do you not like the cut of his jib?
01:28I mean, he's just – he's an easy guy to like.
01:30But hasn't the NFL spoken on what they think of Kayshaun Booty?
01:33We all see him like he's like the best – maybe one of the best receivers on this team
01:38when no one was willing to give up anything for him.
01:42So, again, my whole thing on Kayshaun was there's a redundancy at that position
01:46when you consider A.J. Brown, Romeo Dobbs, and Matt Collins, and Kayshaun Booty pretty much –
01:51Kayshaun Booty can only play one position, and it's the position that all those guys play.
01:55And he's a one-trick pony, which it's a nice trick.
01:58I mean, you know, he gets open on nine routes, but there's a limit to his route tree that he
02:04can run.
02:05He is not a dynamic player.
02:07Tough player.
02:08A guy that you want to pull for, but I don't think this is as big of a loss
02:12as like a lot of people are going to think.
02:13It is kind of shocking they sent him to an AFC contender, though.
02:16I mean, just the fact that for not much.
02:17You know, they waited all this time.
02:19They tried.
02:19To your point, there must have been nobody, Rich, that was offering him anything
02:22because, I mean, otherwise, you at least sent him to the NFC.
02:25It's shocking that they only got a seventh round.
02:26Because who – which team, the Texans or the Patriots, were more desperate in this trade deal?
02:30Right, right.
02:32Far and away, the Texans.
02:33Unless this new Jalen is really good.
02:35I don't know.
02:36Maybe this is the favorite season of his career.
02:37Sure, Jalen.
02:38Here we go.
02:38And you talked about his value.
02:40And, you know, the one thing that I think we all agreed with Kayshawn Booty
02:43is his value with the Patriots is obviously so much better than any other team
02:47because of his chemistry that he has with Drake May.
02:50As I said, I thought that he would just be like an escape hatch.
02:53Like, you throw him in there when you're getting used to playing with guys like A.J. Brown
02:57and you have all these new receivers around you.
02:59Kayshawn Booty's a dude that you already have a relationship with
03:02and you've got that chemistry.
03:04It is a bummer, man.
03:05And I don't think you could have gotten less for him.
03:07I think that – what were we all saying?
03:09Like a third-rounder, fourth-rounder?
03:11You know, you'd most likely get it.
03:13No, that's what the hope was.
03:14That was hope.
03:15I mean, this is probably a long shot, but do you think they use this safety
03:19as a nickel guy and they're worried about Gonzalez and the contract
03:22and this is kind of a fail-safe in case that happens or, you know –
03:26That would be the worst plan ever there, kid.
03:29Don't ever get into coaching.
03:30That would be a terrible plan.
03:31No, I'm just trying to think of reasons, you know.
03:34But, yeah, I mean –
03:34Like Marcus Jones.
03:35Now Marcus Jones moves to the outside and he's your number one corner.
03:38Now this guy plays a nickel corner.
03:39You do not want Marcus Jones.
03:40Did you see what Drake London did to Marcus Jones on the outside last year?
03:44You don't want – you want him as your nickel?
03:45You got to pick today.
03:46He picked off Toby Tommy DeVito at practice.
03:48Well, then I – forget everything I just said.
03:50And he's joining us tomorrow on the show, so I'm trying to talk about –
03:53Save that clip so we can play it for him.
03:54We'll get him nice and riled up.
03:56You know what, though?
03:57Ted, you know what would be nice?
03:58I wouldn't mind, actually, if – is there anybody from your Houston buddies out there
04:03that we might be able to talk to about this safety that they're bringing in?
04:05Because I can't tell.
04:07I'm looking at it right now and it doesn't look like he's played a whole hell of a lot.
04:10But, I mean, I guess he was in – he's 23, 6'2", 212 pounds.
04:15He was a sixth-round guy and it looked like –
04:18He played one game that I guess was pretty good, like Buffalo.
04:21Oh, really?
04:21Yeah.
04:22I wonder if Houston hosts do even know who he is.
04:24Like, he's probably the 53rd guy on their roster.
04:26Sean, Sean, have you heard of this Jalen Reid guy?
04:29You know what, just text him.
04:30I would just text him and see what he says back.
04:33I'll ask him what he thinks about Jalen Reid.
04:35Dude, to me, this was – they were getting rid of Kayshawn Booty come hell or high water.
04:41Like, this was –
04:41They couldn't keep seven receivers.
04:43And they decided Efton Chisholm made the team and Kyle Williams made the team.
04:46So, might as well get something for him, otherwise we're cutting him.
04:49And that's what – and I will tell you this, if anybody's feeling sorry for Kayshawn Booty, don't.
04:53Dude, he's a sixth-round draft pick and basically got what he wanted, which is to play somewhere else.
04:58And a good team.
04:59And a good team with a good quarterback and an opportunity to catch more balls.
05:02Like, this worked out perfectly.
05:04Like, the fact that the Patriots – this is a new-age Patriots.
05:07You know what, can you imagine Belichick?
05:09Kayshawn, oh, you're not happy here?
05:10Okay, let me – we're going to really try and get you to a place where you've got a contending
05:15team with a great quarterback.
05:16Not in the playoffs, I should.
05:17And then we're going to make sure that you leave here happy.
05:20Well, they did with Jimmy G.
05:22They sent him to a nice, cushy spot in San Francisco.
05:24Didn't call anybody around.
05:25Yeah, that was to tweak the guy in front of him, TB12.
05:28That's the whole – yeah, I'm sure – does Jimmy and Billy, they talk still?
05:33They still send texts, love texts to each other?
05:36Like, smiley face emojis and stuff, right?
05:38Yeah, that was great.
05:39Well, there you go.
05:40Kayshawn Booty, no longer a member of your New England Patriots.
05:43And by the way, how funny is it and how ironic is it that we just got a clip from
05:48Mike Vrabel this weekend
05:49complaining about how there's not enough depth on this team where this is the one position where we just have
05:53way too much of it.
05:54Like, wide receiver, like, we've got to get rid of this guy.
05:57So, there you go, Kayshawn Booty.
05:58That sucks.
05:59I thought he did a great job.
06:00It was rooting for him.
06:01But then again, that's business.
06:02It sucks what they got back, too.
06:03I don't like that whatsoever.
06:04I don't like that whatsoever.
