00:0185-year-old John Backham was having dinner with his wife at the Harrietville Hotel on Sunday
00:07evening. At 8 o'clock they undertook their regular routine where his wife walked home 500 metres down
00:13the road and he drove home. But on Sunday evening he didn't arrive home. It's believed Mr Backham
00:19drove down Great Alpine Road through Hotham Heights with police saying his car was later
00:25sighted nearly 100 kilometres away in Omeo. Police held grave fears for Mr Backham's welfare
00:32due to his age and mobility issues. A vast search had begun across the Alpine region. However just
00:40past 1 p.m today police said the search for Mr Backham was over with a passer-by finding his
00:47vehicle at a crash site just south of Mitamita. He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening
00:53injuries. He will be reunited with his family later today.
