00:00The Texans trade for a starting wide receiver.
00:09The Texans trade for Kayshawn Boutte,
00:13which is definitely a void-filling move,
00:17definitely along with the others.
00:20They give up Safety Reed, who was a fourth-round pick last year,
00:24something like that, a draft pick a year ago out of Penn State.
00:28I thought he was a safety, a big safety that was a little bit more
00:35damn near like a linebacker size.
00:37He started playing when he got healthy, he played.
00:40Yeah, played safety and played well, but he just couldn't stay healthy.
00:43But they trade him and a 2028 seventh-round pick
00:47to the New England Patriots for Kayshawn Boutte.
00:51So, Ron, here's where I'm at.
00:54This is a – I personally like Boutte.
00:57I liked him when he was at LSU as a player.
01:00I liked him when he was at New England as a player.
01:02I thought he was a guy that always – I expected more out of him.
01:06I don't know that he lived up to or met my expectations, right?
01:10Now, he was a number three receiver on the Super Bowl run last year
01:17with the New England Patriots.
01:18He was behind, obviously, Diggs and Hunter Henry.
01:22And then came Kayshawn Boutte.
01:26So, he did get some run.
01:27He did play a prominent role.
01:29But he just – I still – when I watch him play, Ron,
01:31I feel like there's more there, right?
01:33And we're going to talk about that.
01:34We're going to talk about a little bit.
01:36I know you went back and watched some highlights.
01:37I want to talk a little bit about what the ceiling is.
01:40But right now, for me, when I look at all the moves I just outlined, Ron,
01:45this is about – this is a production play for me
01:50with the Houston Texans offense.
01:53Like, whether it's Boutte or Knoll or – like, here's what I need.
01:57I need 40 to 50 catches.
02:01I need 600-ish yards.
02:04And I need six to eight touchdowns, right?
02:07That's roughly what Jaden Higgins gave you last year.
02:10That's roughly what Kayshawn Boutte gave you last year, right?
02:14And I think Boutte only played 14 games.
02:16So, he missed three games somewhere along the way.
02:18So, when I look at it, that's what we –
02:21that's what the Texans offense needs from a number two wide receiver, right?
02:25They're going to run the football.
02:27They're going to throw it to Nico.
02:28They're going to throw it to Dalton Schultz.
02:29Marlon Kline and Jalen Knoll are probably going to sneak in there
02:32and get a little action.
02:33That's number two wide receiver.
02:35However, it's more about a production play for me.
02:38So, I'm not going to come on here and tell you that Kayshawn Boutte
02:40is an all-pro or a pro-bowl wide receiver.
02:42I like the sign.
02:43I like the move of Boutte being added to the Texans
02:47because my confidence in us getting that kind of production
02:51from a number two receiver just went through the roof.
02:54And that's the big thing.
02:56That production, everything you're saying.
02:58And I think at this point, I'm excited for the Texans on a couple of fronts.
03:03But in terms of the player front, again,
03:08I am always conducting my thoughts based on what their expectations are.
03:16And this is year four now.
03:18They have gone to the division around every year,
03:22and we know they're talking Super Bowl.
03:25That's what they're saying.
03:26That's what people around them view them as.
03:28Yeah.
03:29They have high expectations.
03:30They've gotten higher and higher every year.
03:35They didn't have a second NFL starting wide receiver on a team
03:40that had aspirations of getting as far as they can potentially get to,
03:44and that's winning a Super Bowl.
03:47They got a lot of other things that scream that.
03:49And you can't roll through here without having two starting wide receivers
03:55before the season starts, not just because you had a rash of injuries.
03:59Right.
04:00They had to get that.
04:02And Sterling Shepard and Zay Jones were good additions,
04:06and they probably potentially will play a part at some point.
04:09But you had Xavier Hutchinson as your two when we woke up today.
04:12That cannot be.
04:14Right.
04:15On a championship team, if you're rebuilding, that's one thing.
04:18On a championship team, you woke up, that's your two.
04:21No, no, that can't be it.
04:23You had Jalen Noel, who I don't know where he is right now.
04:28It's good to see him back on the practice field.
04:30But those are not bona fide guys that you know are going to be starting wide
04:35receivers in the league.
04:37They got one now.
04:38And from that part, on the field part, is a huge, huge deal.
04:43Because, as you said, you can't have those aspirations
04:47and then think you're going to Jarrett Wayne replace this thing.
04:51And I like what Jarrett has done, and he could break out.
04:53But you had to get somebody that gave you somewhere within the ballpark
04:58of ability and potential production that Higgins was going to give you.
05:02Look, I mean, the Keyshawn Butte move is big for multiple reasons, Ron.
05:06The production is what you need, right?
05:10Number two, he's a veteran.
05:11He is a guy that's seen everything an NFL defense can throw at you.
05:14Number three, he was in the New England Patriots system, so he's plug and play.
05:18He knows exactly what this system commands.
05:23He knows the terminology.
05:24He knows all the movements.
05:26He should be a plug and play from jump.
05:29When you talk about how he compliments everybody else,
05:31he is a guy that can stretch the field,
05:33albeit he doesn't necessarily do it with just sheer speed and Will Fuller fashion.
05:37He does have the ability, the big play ability,
05:40the explosive plays that we were talking about.
05:42He averaged over 15 yards a catch over the last two seasons.
05:46This is a guy that's very comfortable making big-time catches in big moments
05:50with contact.
05:51He doesn't rely on running by a safety or running by a cornerback
05:55and getting a play schemed up specifically for him.
05:58He doesn't have to be open for you to throw the football to him
06:02for him to get a catch and a big play.
06:04So he's super complimentary.
06:08I tell you what, I think he's capable of significantly more
06:13than what we saw in New England.
06:15Now, we'll see if D'Amico Rhines, Nick Caley, and the Texans
06:18can get more out of him.
06:20But I personally believe that he's significantly better
06:23than what we saw in New England,
06:25at least from a tangible standpoint,
06:26from a skill set perspective, I think he is.
06:30But even if he is what you got at New England,
06:32that's at least in the range of a solid No. 2 receiver.
06:38Absolutely.
06:38And I'll go a little further.
06:40The way I see this thing playing out,
06:41I see what I saw from Jaden Higgins
06:45that I think was the most impressive part of it
06:47was he was taking on more of a workload
06:49and was becoming the move receiver in this offense.
06:52Right?
06:52Nico Collins wants to be stationary on the boundary.
06:54K'Shawn Butte, I'm sure he can do it all.
06:56But I would imagine he's better stationary outside.
06:59Now you got Jalen Knoll, who is a guy that the opportunity presents itself
07:05to become that move guy.
07:07And I would argue that that shiftiness, that twitch,
07:10that change of direction that he naturally has as a smaller receiver
07:13is better in that role.
07:16So things make, with this overhaul of the wide receiver room,
07:19you got better veteran depth overall.
07:21You got a guy that's plug-and-play opposite Nico Collins and Butte,
07:25and you got Noel coming back that should fit that slot move player.
