00:00was the Ashton Gentie news for the Raiders about the apparent leg injury that he suffered over
00:07the weekend. We alluded to the Raiders yesterday. We spoke about their season schedule. What are
00:11what are our expectations for the Raiders? But it was a little bit touch and go for Gentie. And as
00:18the hours went on, we got more and more information. It apparently is not a knee injury. It is more
00:24of
00:24an ankle injury. And it is also apparently not a high ankle sprain, which is great news. It is
00:31apparently a lower ankle sprain, which is ultimately what you want to see for a running back. High ankle
00:37sprains for any position can be absolutely devastating. We are still over two weeks away
00:43before the NFL season officially starts. Now the question is, will Gentie be ready for week one?
00:50That is yet to be seen. But it seems that the Raiders dodged a big bullet here and Gentie will
00:55be good to go. Maybe not week one, but a good sign, no doubt, Joe. We have a lot to
01:01get to as we've been
01:01talking about the AFC West overall, the prices on the Chargers, which we don't really like.
01:06This doesn't really change too much of the Raiders season outlook. I did hear some reports that this
01:12does potentially change the timeline on which Fernando Mendoza would be starting if Gentie isn't
01:18ready to go in week one or waiting until week two. I don't see this as much of a material
01:22change for
01:23the Raiders overall. It is a good sign that he will play at some point this season, though.
01:29Yeah, I mean, listen, that whole division is going to be very interesting, as you mentioned there,
01:33Tom. And right off the bat, we also learned Patrick Mahomes is going to be your week one starter
01:38in the season. I still don't know how that's possible, given the fact that we saw what happened to
01:43his leg there in December. But they are saying, all indications are, he's going to be there for
01:49the Kansas City Chiefs opening game. But I still think September is going to be interesting. I think
01:56there's going to be a lot of highs and lows with the Raiders, whether Gentie plays or he doesn't.
02:01I think they have some other things they have to be able to figure out. Namely, you and I talked
02:07yesterday, if they can't stop anybody in that young secondary from scoring, it won't make a difference
02:12what they have going on offense. But I do think it's going to be a tale of two halves. I
02:17think
02:17they're going to show moments of they did the right thing with Mendoza. They're on right track.
02:23But Tom, I think there's also going to be those moments where they gave up 42 points. We're going
02:29to get the, you know, the Crosby news again that he wants. It's going to be rinse and repeat. The
02:35question is, do we get more of the good stories out of them and the good signs as opposed to
02:43the
02:43bad Pete Carroll vibes that we got a year ago? I hope it's the other way because I do think
02:49they
02:49got some players on his team. They do. And a lot of it comes down to Kirk Cousins. You know,
02:55can he be average? Can he be capable? Because to your point with their defense,
03:01which we know is not going to be good, if they start giving up points into the mid thirties,
03:06Kirk Cousins, do we trust him to get more than 30? Do we trust him to get 17, 21, 24?
03:12If they are
03:12constantly playing from behind and Kirk Cousins constantly has to drop back because the Raiders
03:17are in pure passing game scripts and he is not able to move as we saw last year, it could
03:23be a very,
03:24very slow start to their offense. And then of course, the fan noise will get very loud. And that's what
03:29will push Mendoza to be in at some point.
