00:06one leadership executive advisor says the problem is much bigger than infighting between the MP
00:12and the constituency chairman. Dr. Mwale Henry says the response from the PNM itself
00:19is raising serious questions for the party's priorities and its ability to manage dissent.
00:25If you look simply at the content of the press conference, Mr. Manning was mentioned over 20 times
00:34and not in a favorable light, and Ms. Patricia Alexis was mentioned six times, and all in a neutral light.
00:43You can look at the transcripts, you can look at it. It suggests to me that the process that was
00:51established has already taken a slant or a view.
00:55Dr. Henry questions why an emergency news conference was necessary on Monday,
01:00at a time when he says the country faces more pressing national concerns to be addressed.
01:07He tells the morning edition his concern is deepening over allegations of corruption
01:13after MP Manning raised questions about unexplained wealth among some constituency figures.
01:20Henry says the response from the party's chairman raises red flags.
01:25It's quite disappointing that the chairman of the party intimated that the People's National Movement
01:30does not have the capacity to investigate matters of allegations of corruption.
01:36And that for me is quite telling. It falls short of due process. It falls short of governance.
01:45And the party has the mechanism to do such. And if a discovery is found, a responsible organization
01:53will forward it to the relevant authorities.
01:55Dr. Henry questions whether the party's leadership still has a firm grip, noting that calls by the chairman,
02:03Marvin González, to keep the dispute private and for the executive to resist pressure to resign, were ignored.
02:10He says the political leader must now respond.
02:14It is only right to conclude that it is the political leader who should have the clarity to explain
02:23and to present the confidence of her decision in managing this process.
02:30Not the chairman, not the deputy political leader for policy, but the political leader.
02:39What is required now is leadership.
02:42And that leadership starts with the historic election of the unopposed political leader in the person of Ms. Beckles.
