00:00Holly's ultimate pet routine always includes stopping at this exact spot by the water.
00:04Holly settles in with her stick and insists that her dad join her so they can share a
00:08quiet moment together.
00:11Having fun? It definitely seems to relax her. So every time we walk past the spot,
00:17we stop and take as long as she wants to sit there and relax.
00:25This little ritual was surprising because Holly had always been such a high energy dog.
00:29But it seems like she was starting to understand the benefits of slowing down.
00:33And it's a good thing she did because at only two years old,
00:36she needed to get a knee surgery, which didn't leave her much of a choice.
00:40Yeah, she's been really active right from the start. So before her surgery,
00:43we would always go for three walks a day and all of a sudden we had to stop for 12
00:48weeks while she
00:49recovered. Even hopping on one leg, she wanted to go full pace. So I worked out that carrying a stick
00:55was able to slow it down. Slow, slow. And then we just kept adding another one and then another one
01:02day after day. Over time, Holly built her own stick library right at her front door.
01:08I do get asked a lot about how she adds to the pile if she's always taking one and returning
01:14it,
01:14but she rotates them herself pretty regularly. And then we'll come home with one so she can add it to
01:22her pile.
01:27But once she's done, she'll come find me for some attention straight away.
01:33She will get as close to me as possible. Honestly, she'd crawl under my skin if she could.
01:40Holly may be back to her active self, but every walk still includes a moment by the water
01:45with her stick that reminds the boat to stop, sit and enjoy being together.
01:52See you guys next time.
