00:01A grim sight for emergency workers. An Adelaide Metro driver and passenger trapped in the
00:08wreckage of this bus, which was heading north on Commercial Road when it hit the pylon of
00:13a rail bridge just before 9am.
00:15We had to use some techniques to drag the bus backwards off the pylon, to then use some
00:21hand tools and hydraulic tools to actually remove the steering column in the front of
00:24the bus off of those lower limbs to enable them to be removed.
00:28Paramedics treated the driver who was trapped for more than an hour.
00:32The patient was quite unwell, he required IV fluids, blood and a significant amount of
00:37medication for the extrication to occur.
00:39The 37-year-old was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition, along with the
00:45passenger who had non-life-threatening injuries. Three other passengers were treated at the
00:49scene.
00:50Train services were halted while emergency crews responded to the crash and an engineer examined
00:56the structural integrity of the bridge.
00:58Trains were back up and running by midday. Police are investigating the crash.
