04:25Let's get back to the field, which is exactly what Patrick Mahomes is trying to do.
04:30It's nine months.
04:31I mean, it's the amount of time they said from the very beginning that if I did everything
04:34the right way, I would be ready to play week one.
04:37And it's just been about being a plan.
04:39I'm someone that you put something out in front of me.
04:41I want to go out and get it.
04:42I want to go out and maximize every single opportunity, every rep in the weight room,
04:45every hour that I can spend in the building to get my body right.
04:49And so this has always been the plan is to be ready for training camp, get all the reps
04:53in training camp, prepare your body that way so that when you get to week one, you're
04:57ready to play the game and you've had the right amount of time off.
04:59And so from the day that I got the surgery as quick as I did to hopefully the first game
05:04of the year, the plan will go accordingly and I'll be able to go out there and be myself.
05:09Listen, if you're a football fan, if you're a Chiefs fan, you've got to absolutely love
05:13this because Patrick Mahomes talked to the press.
05:16And if you're a Chiefs fan, you're ready to ultimately absolutely run through a wall.
05:21Patrick Mahomes ripped up and tore his ACL, needed surgery.
05:26Last year, the Chiefs missed the playoffs.
05:28He got hurt.
05:29And now here he is nine months after and he feels great and he is on track to play week
05:35number one.
05:36He is light years ahead of schedule when it comes to being out there for the Kansas City
05:41Chiefs.
05:41Remember last year on the timing week one was in doubt based upon medicine and precedent
05:49and time it takes to heal.
05:51Listen, Patrick Mahomes is not human.
05:55It kind of needs to be stressed.
05:57We are talking about, after Tom Brady in my opinion, the second greatest quarterback in
06:03the NFL in the last 50 years.
06:04And Patrick Mahomes, if you remember when Brady had his injury, he might be able to now
06:10have that second Hall of Fame career, if you will, just like Tom Brady did after he got
06:16heard what feels like a lifetime ago.
06:18And you remember the conversation about, well, there's no way Mahomes is going to be there.
06:23Patrick Mahomes hasn't missed a practice during the preseason.
06:28Not one.
06:29We're talking about practice, which is pretty amazing when you start talking about the recovery,
06:35the rehab, the tenacity, athletes like this are wired differently.
06:41And just in case you needed to jog the mental Rolodex, because it's been a second on Mahomes,
06:46he's still Patrick freaking Mahomes, which means he's one of the greatest athletes who's
06:53played in the last 50 years in professional sports.
06:57And that means the Kansas City Chiefs officially are back.
07:01Now, what does that mean?
07:04I think the Broncos and Chargers have better teams.
07:07We're going to take a look at the landscape of the AFC West.
07:10I do not put the Kansas City Chiefs in the conversation when it comes to teams that could win the
07:17highly
07:17competitive AFC.
07:19You have the Broncos.
07:20You have the Chargers.
07:21You have the Bills.
07:22You have the Patriots.
07:23You have the Texans and the Jaguars and the Colts.
07:26You have the Ravens and the Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals, who I love this year.
07:30I don't think the Chiefs have the defense, have the wide receiver room, that can ultimately,
07:36the offensive line, that can turn this team into a championship squad, something that Chiefs
07:42fans are accustomed to seeing with Mahomes since he became the quarterback.
07:45But they have Patrick Mahomes.
07:48They have Andy Reid.
07:50Andy Reid is unequivocally the best coach in the National Football League.
07:54And listen, we're talking about as great and as dominant and dynamic a combo for a head
07:59coach, play caller, and a quarterback as we've seen in the history of this sport.
08:04Listen, I think the fact that Mahomes was ready to rock and roll for training camp hasn't
08:10missed a practice.
08:11And he's now on target to start week number one.
08:14And he left nothing to ambiguity.
08:17That press conference yesterday, that's letting the world know, I'm back.

09:41I love Calvin Austin.
09:42Phenomenal guy.

09:46He's incredibly speedy.

09:50This feels like the kind of injury, and it sucks.

09:56Really good player who I thought, in Matt Nagy's offense, was going to be great.
10:02This is the kind of move that I'm worried keeps the Giants out of the playoffs.
10:08Like, when you start talking about the difference between, this is the conversation, the Giants
10:13and the Cowboys and the Eagles, the Giants versus the Bears and the Lions and the Packers,
10:21going up in a compare and contrast with the Minnesota Vikings and the 49ers and the Rams,
10:27and you start talking about how they compare to the Seattle Seahawks.
10:31When you lose a guy, and we can debate how great Calvin Austin is, who the Giants and
10:37John Arbaugh were banking on to be the number two or number three receiver this year, it's
10:44awful.
10:45It sets them back.
10:47That doesn't mean they, at the end of the day, can't make the playoffs without him.
10:52But when I start looking into the crystal ball in terms of guys who can help the Giants
10:57win games and win close games and be a spark on offense, it sucks.
11:02Because now, Odell Beckham Jr. is going to make the team.
11:07Let's be clear.
11:08For all the conversation that I've had on how do you sign Odell and he's dropping passes
11:14and, you know, this is nothing more than a play to the sentiment of Giants fans.
11:20He's going to make the team.
11:21Malik Neighbors, he's on track to play week one.
11:24He better play week one.
11:26Because let's say, hypothetically, look at the depth chart on the screen right there.
11:29Let's say Neighbors isn't there.
11:31Are you beating the Cowboys with Mooney and Fields and Slayton and Odell Beckham Jr.?
11:36And listen, I love this one-handed grab.
11:41Everyone on social media is going nuts.
11:43That's fantastic.
11:45Also, when he used two hands to make a potential touchdown catch in the preseason game against
11:50Miami, the ball went right through it.
11:52So you can have your flash and your dash when it comes to Odell.

11:57I'm rooting for Odell Beckham Jr.
11:59I think this would be an amazing story, great for the Giants, great for their fans.
12:04Odell Beckham Jr., when the Giants brought him in in June, was a street free agent.
12:10Went through the free agency period.
12:12No one in the NFL signed him.
12:14So forget even my take, which is right and ahead of the curve.
12:18The entire league was convinced he couldn't play.
12:22So if you're banking on Odell Beckham Jr. to replace what you thought the productivity of
12:27Calvin Austin was going to be, I just think you're not paying attention.
12:31And the Giants schedule without Calvin Austin.
12:35Listen, let's have this conversation.
12:37I don't like them against the Cowboys.
12:40The Rams are loaded.
12:42And then you have winnable games.
12:44And I said four and two to start the season.
12:49Tennessee should absolutely be a win.
12:51Arizona should absolutely be a win.
12:54Not having Calvin Austin for the game against Washington makes me nervous.
13:00Not having Calvin Austin in a game against the New Orleans Saints, who I think would be a really good
13:06team.
13:06That makes me nervous.
13:09Not to mention the stretch of, look at that.
13:12And let's take the bye week out.
13:13Houston, Philadelphia, Washington, Jacksonville, Indianapolis, San Francisco, Seattle.
13:20That is a tough stretch.
13:22And then after the Cleveland game, how the Giants finish.
13:25At Detroit, at Dallas, and then home against the Philadelphia Eagles.
13:30I think if you have a singular focus on the name Calvin Austin, it's just not right.
13:39You need to have a bigger picture.
13:41And I love Malachi Fields.
13:42I love Mooney.
13:43I love Isaiah Likely, who they brought in at the tight end position to catch passes from Jackson Dart.
13:49But Calvin Austin was John Harbaugh's hand-picked speed receiver.
13:53Because he coached against him in all those Pittsburgh and Baltimore battles.
13:58This is brutal.
13:59I don't even think, because the Giants fans never saw Calvin Austin play.
14:06So you have no idea what kind of impact he was going to have on your football team.
14:11I think this is a killer for the New York football Giants.
14:16I think this is one of those unfortunate injuries that will ultimately hurt the Giants in terms of their ability
14:23and keep them out of the playoffs in 2026.
14:27On the flip side, Jamar Chase appears to have avoided a catastrophic injury despite a scare.
14:35Just a football play, missed my footing, and just a little tweak, but I'm fine.

15:00If you drafted Jamar Chase on your fantasy football team, he's fine.
15:05And he's going to be in bubble wrap.
15:06You're not going to see him in preseason game number three.
15:09And this is one of those moments.
15:13If you're Jamar Chase, if you're Joe Burrow, if you're Tee Higgins, if you're a fan of the
15:18Cincinnati Bengals, there's also this, if it wasn't for bad luck, historically, the Bengals
15:26would have no luck at all.
15:28One of the most snakebit, cursed franchises in NFL history.
15:33So Jamar Chase goes down at practice, and normally a scene like that would equal a headline
15:40of the star wide receiver, arguably the best in the NFL, being done for the year.
15:45The fact that Chase fell to the ground yesterday and was able to rise up and talk to the press
15:52after and say, he's all good.
15:56Maybe it's the sports gods rewarding the Cincinnati Bengals for at the end of the day, doing the
16:03right thing in the offseason, being active in the offseason, for trading a first round
16:06pick for Dexter Lawrence, for adding big time players, starters on defense, for making sure
16:13that this team was ready financially and on defense and health-wise to make a run for that elusive
16:22Lombardi trophy.
16:23Maybe this is just another sign from the universe that the Bengals are going to be rewarded.
16:29You know, the sports gods work in mysterious ways.
16:32The fact that Jamar Chase is back and healthy and ready, and this turned out to be nothing,
16:39that never happens with the Cincinnati Bengals.
16:42And I think that if you're Joe Burrow, and you have demanded accountability from everyone
16:49involved with the Bengals, in terms of this needs to be our year, we're thinking Super Bowl.
16:55We want to manifest it.
16:57If you're T. Higgins, and you want to make sure that you get yours, and you get your Super Bowl,
17:03and you get your catches, because Jamar Chase is going to be doubled all the time,
17:08everything in the past that could go wrong goes wrong for the Cincinnati Bengals.
17:12The fact that the Jamar Chase injury is nothing and a non-story, to me, that makes it a massive
17:21story.
17:21That means maybe, maybe the sports gods are finally shining here and smiling on the Cincinnati Bengals.

18:45with the bullpen once again unable to get the job done.

18:52That loss last night killed me.

18:58The vibes for the Yankees were so damn high.
19:01All right, last week was the best week the Yankees have had since Aaron Judge went on the injured list.
19:05Swept the Orioles, two out of three from the Blue Jays, setting up a big week at Yankee Stadium in
19:12the South Bronx.
19:13The hated Astros coming to town.
19:15The hated Red Sox coming to town.
19:18And this version of the Astros, they're just not any good.
19:22And the Yankees had the lead.
19:24Bellinger hit a homer, a three-run jack, great.
19:26Then you see Luis Garcia Jr., four hits, earns the pinstripes, puts the Yankees up, and the bullpen blows it.
19:36How the hell do you give up to this version, this version of the Houston Astros?

23:36And if Brian Cashman would have gone out of his own way and stopped trying to cover his
23:41ass and his own ego on Volpe, and Lombard was up sooner rather than later, then he could
23:47have worked out some of these kinks before the end of August.
23:52So, to me, Lombard Jr. has a free pass because he's not Anthony Volpe, who was the worst for
24:03two years.
24:04And watching him was soul-sucking because he was terrible at professional baseball.
24:10So, we've already seen more greats from Lombard Jr. than Volpe in a short period of time.
24:19Lombard Jr. in the month of August has done more good things for the Yankees than Volpe did in
24:24March, April, May, June, July.
24:28Simple as that.
24:29Even with four straight games where he's made an error.

28:23The SEC followed the Big Ten's lead.
28:26I demanded they put it in writing.

28:28The SEC announced that its institutions are not permitted to have an athlete on its roster who has previously declared
28:37for the NFL, NBA, or WNBA draft and did not appropriately withdraw.
28:42Signed a contract with an NFL, or other professional football, or an NBA, G League, or WNBA or affiliate team.
28:53Been listed on an NFL, or another professional football league, NBA, G League, or WNBA affiliate roster.
29:01Meaning, a pro.
29:03If you're a pro, you can't play in college.
29:07It's as simple as that.
29:09And, this is important here.
29:11The announcement stated, Sankey is authorized to enforce this expectation with penalties against member institutions.
29:20Now, of course, floodgates for lawyers are going to open, and it's going to be a mess.
29:26My whole thing is this.
29:28And, we talked about this with LSU basketball and LSU football yesterday.
29:33If you are on a professional team, you're a pro.
29:39That means you're done with college.
29:41It's been that way forever.
29:43It's the only way.
29:45In fairness to high school athletes, college athletes, pro athletes.
29:52So, I think the fact that we're here is absurd.
29:57The NCAA could have done something about this a long time ago.
30:01They knew the 5-5 2022 rule was ultimately going to be in effect.
30:06Knew there was going to be chaos.
30:07This should have been put into law and regulation and a rule a long time ago to prevent this.
30:15What a mess.
30:16What an absolute mess.
30:18Because the lawyers now are going to be all in.
30:20And, here it is.
30:21College football in theory starts tomorrow, right?
30:23Week zero, baby.
30:25We should be talking about Heisman Trophy and playoff teams.
30:28And, are we going to get a fourth straight year where a Big Ten team is going to win a
30:32natty in college football?
30:34Instead, we're talking about if it's kosher for someone to go from the Boston Celtics to Louisiana State.
30:41Instead, we are talking about whether or not you can ultimately go from the Cleveland Browns to LSU football.
30:51Embarrassing.
30:51I can't wait.
