00:00Houston, it's time to turn up the heat.
00:04From Hiram Clark to Lake Houston, breaking news, bold takes, trades, and trash talk.
00:11You name it.
00:12Get ready for the hottest sports talk in the city.
00:16Holla at your boys.
00:17The B Block is hot on the drive.
00:22Alright, welcome in. It's Wednesday. B Block is with us.
00:27The B Block is hot with Brandon Scott in here as we're getting closer and closer to this season starting.
00:34They had joint practice today in Charlotte with the Panthers and apparently just dominated their asses in a major way.
00:45I mean, when you got the head coach for the other team telling you how bad it was.
00:51Going back to the drawing board, waving the white flag.
00:54Yeah, they did.
00:55Yeah, man.
00:55Yeah, Bryce said it wasn't very fun today.
00:58That's what got me.
01:00So, yeah, we can get into that a little bit.
01:02But the big move and the big news of the week with the Texans is we knew they got the
01:09injury to Jaden Huggins.
01:13You trying to combine him with Hutchinson.
01:15Him and Hutch together.
01:16Jaden Higgins.
01:17And obviously that was huge.
01:20And then it was even bigger when you start to hear the coaches talk about him, especially D'Amico, and
01:26talk about how important he is.
01:28Well, they go out and they make a move, an aggressive move, I would say.
01:32And they trade a young promising safety in Reed over to New England.
01:37And they bring back Kayshawn Booty.
01:39Your thoughts on the aggressive move that the Texans made to bring in a replacement for Higgins?
01:45I thought they had to have it.
01:47And I'll be honest.
01:47Like, after this Higgins injury happened, I didn't really like none of the options.
01:51Because I didn't know who was really available.
01:54Obviously, Kayshawn Booty's name had been thrown out there once we start kind of looking at the landscape, looking at
01:59who has a surplus at wide receiver.
02:02But without really knowing how available he was and how doable a deal was, I just didn't like any of
02:07the options.
02:08Talking about grabbing guys off the street, some of the older guys, which they did do.
02:12Brought in Sterling Shepard and Zay Jones.
02:14Didn't necessarily love that.
02:16And for as much as I've respected what the wide receivers, the depth of the wide receivers have done in
02:21camp and in preseason,
02:22I didn't feel like any one guy could step into that role that you were expecting Jaden Higgins to fill
02:27or to serve in.
02:29So I thought that they were going to have to do something or we were going to have to expect
02:33something outsized from somebody that was already on the team.
02:37Like Xavier Hutchinson, you got to really show your worth now.
02:42Tank Dale, the question of what is Tank Dale?
02:44When is he going to be ready?
02:45And Clint, by the way, you let Luke take a term for me about Tank Dale.
02:49When is he going to be ready for violence?
02:51Luke got that for me.
02:51I may have heard you say it.
02:53I've been giving him credit for a month.
02:55I've said it with you and with Luke.
02:57But that was my thing.
02:58It's like, when is he going to be ready for violence?
02:59And we still don't have a great answer for that question.
03:02But I thought it was a much more urgent question, obviously, once Jaden Higgins goes down.
03:06You go get Kayshaun Booty and now that Tank question can go sit where it's been sitting the entire time.
03:12And whatever he gives you is luxury.
03:14And to the point that y'all have been making over the last couple of days, I think it's a
03:17good one.
03:18You do a couple of things.
03:19You replace, relatively speaking, the production that Jaden Higgins either had given you or was expected to give you.
03:26You can reasonably expect that from Kayshaun Booty.
03:28And then more specifically, that downfield threat that I think Ron was talking about maybe yesterday of like, man, they
03:35haven't had that.
03:36That may be more important.
03:38I'm not saying, like I said yesterday, I don't know that he's better than Higgins.
03:40But that quality, that skill set, you've talked about Fuller, you've talked about that.
03:46They just haven't even had that as a threat.
03:49And I think that's a big potential if they use it.
03:53Yeah.
03:53So that's my big thing is the big playability plus the production.
03:57I think he had six touchdowns last year just like Higgins did, right?
04:0013 games, yeah.
04:01But then you've got that big playability.
04:03And then another big thing, and Clint, I know you appreciate this, is the fact that he already knows the
04:07offense.
04:08Yeah.
04:08The learning curve should not be too steep.
04:10It should be relatively smooth from that standpoint, having played in the system already.
04:15So all of these things kind of come together and just make perfect sense for the Texans.
04:18What about, because this is the most fascinating piece of it, when he, I didn't think the Texans would,
04:24I didn't think New England would trade a much-needed piece, regardless of what you think of the player.
04:30I would think there would be other suitors that they would choose to do business with before they do it
04:35with the Texans.
04:36I thought so, too.
04:36It was my thought.
04:37I thought so, too.
04:38So, I mean, a tip to cap to Nick for pulling it off.
04:41So, the fascinating thing to me about Keyshawn Boutte is, man, I think the ceiling is a lot higher than
04:52what we've seen.
04:53Like, I think Boutte, I think he is a thousand-yard receiver, potentially.
04:58I'm not saying he's going to do it here because you're doing it with Nico Collins and Dalton Schultz and
05:01a run-first offense and all that.
05:03But when he slipped in the draft and he came to the league, I thought, okay, this is a dude
05:08in the right spot.
05:11Could give you, like, thousand-yard type stuff.
05:16And so, I've thought that in my mind.
05:18And I think, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I heard D'Amico Ryan kind of mention today,
05:22hey, you know, we think we can get more out of Keyshawn Boutte, not just what we've seen him do.
05:28Yeah, I 100% agree with that.
05:30And then another thing that I would say is specific to his role with the Texans,
05:34he has not played with a receiver as good as Nico Collins in his career, in his NFL career.
05:39So, I think that the opportunities that are going to be there for Keyshawn Boutte,
05:43one of the things that I was focusing on with Jaden Higgins and that injury,
05:46and I think I mentioned this last week, is how, you know, Nico Collins is your coverage dictator
05:51and Jaden Higgins was the guy that's supposed to make you pay for said strategy against Nico Collins.
05:56Well, I think Keyshawn Boutte can fill that role specifically.
06:00And then just the fact that he's been productive without playing with a guy like that.
06:05And Nico Collins, as we already know, is going to take up a great deal of attention.
06:09And I suspect that Keyshawn Boutte and also CJ Stroud, a guy that likes to chunk it deep,
06:15but haven't really had, A, the time to chunk it deep as much over the last couple of years,
06:20or the personnel with Tank Dale being in and out and mostly out of the lineup.
06:24So, it does a number of things, the production, the deep threat ability, the familiarity with the offense,
06:31and then, of course, him not ever playing with a player of the caliber of Nico Collins.
06:36I think you're going to be able to get a lot out of Keyshawn Boutte.
06:38Yep.
06:39Yeah, that's the hope.
06:41But at the very least, like to me, like what Rasheed Shaheed brought to the Seahawks,
06:47that fear of the downfield threat just that he was out there loosened up things for Jackson Smith and Jigba
06:54in their offense.
06:56So, you know, the sky, the ceiling may be up where you're talking about as a 1,000-yard receiver,
07:02but at the very least, he is going to bring a fear that is proven fear.
07:10It's likely that it's not going to happen because, I mean, it's just for a guy to jump into a
07:14system
07:14and all of a sudden, you know, skyrocket like that.
07:17But it's not crazy.
07:18I mean, look, he was, again, he was in an organization that was hiring defensive coordinators as OCs at one
07:23point.
07:23Wasn't he there that year?
07:24And he was there for three years?
07:26Maybe he missed the Matt Patricia year.
07:29Oh, yeah, I don't think he was – I don't know if he was there for that year.
07:31He didn't get a Matt Patricia year with Belichick's last year there?
07:35He might.
07:36He's been there a few years now, so he might have.
07:38He might have.
07:39He's been there three years, so I think he may have.
07:40Yeah, I think he did.
07:41Yeah, but to the point that you're making, just think about the fact that you can even make that point
07:46about him.
07:47Who was the receiver that the Texans had before, absent of Jaden Higgins, obviously,
07:52that you could even have said that about?
07:54Like, honestly, like, I think this guy's got 1,000-yard potential.
07:57It just was not there outside of Nico Collins.
07:59Of course, Tank has that as well, but you don't know what you're going to get there.
08:03So just that you could even say that about a guy that they've added
08:05or that they've added a guy that you can say that about I think speaks volumes.
08:09You cover this team, B. Scott here with us on the drive, as he is every Wednesday.
08:14Any notable players, if we're getting closer to the end,
08:18any notable players that you think may be in trouble of making this team?
08:24Yeah, I've got to look at the offensive lineman,
08:26and I hate that what happened to Braden Smith happened to him today,
08:29but I'm very curious to see what the – I know he's being evaluated for a foot injury,
08:33but he already looked like he was sort of competing for a spot that I think
08:38when he got signed here, a lot of people had already kind of penciled him in for
08:41and just assumed that that was going to be your right tackle.
08:45So there's a question there, but the big one is Wyatt Teller, right?
08:49Like, Wyatt Teller is the name, the former All-Pro, one of the –
08:53what I thought at least was one of their marquee signings outside of David Montgomery,
08:57and I think I was even making the case that he was their most important signing
09:01of the offseason just because left guard had been such a turnstile
09:05and such a disaster for just being real about it, a disaster for years now, years.
09:10And so I thought that they finally had found the answer,
09:13assuming that Wyatt Teller was going to be healthy and extra motivated
09:17for how things ended in Cleveland.
09:19And it could just be the case that Buddy ain't got it no more,
09:22or at the very least the guy that they drafted in Keelan Rutledge is a better guard
09:27and something we've been talking about from watching practices.
09:30He might be their best offensive lineman, period, already.
09:33Now, that's tough to say considering he hasn't played a real NFL game yet,
09:37but based off of what we're seeing right now, that's not a crazy claim
09:41or a crazy thing to say about Keelan Rutledge.
09:43And certainly one of the better guys, the best guy on the interior.
09:47So whether it was him playing center or guard, you figured he was going to have to play.
09:51But to your question, Ron, it's turned out that Wyatt Teller is –
09:56it could be like this year's version of Laken Tomlinson.
09:59Him and Braden Smith could have been this year's version of the combination of Laken Tomlinson
10:04and Cam Robinson, guys that you brought in.
10:06They made it to the season, though.
10:08Yeah.
10:09Well, but it could be that you learned your lesson.
10:12Like, let's not fiddle around with this thing when we know and we can see in training camp
10:16that they can't even play with our young guys,
10:19that they can't even make it through training camp truly.
10:21So Wyatt Teller is the main name for me out of guys that I was expecting to be a big
10:26part of this team
10:27that may not be on the team at all.
10:29All right, before we get you out of here, what's your feel?
10:32What's your feel on Tankdale?
10:34Tankdale, like it's hard not to look and feel like was there some sort of a setback or something
10:40because he was rolling, rolling, and then they have halted it.
10:43Now they bring in multiple receivers, including trading a valuable member of their team
10:51and a draft pick to bring in Bouti.
10:54Do you got a feel of what's going on with Tankdale when we may see him?
10:58If it's not a setback, then they clearly changed their plan with him midstream somewhere
11:03or decided to dial it back.
11:05Like, I got a hard time believing that it was a part of the plan to throw him out there
11:09in practices a little bit and then to completely withhold him from there.
11:14My ears first perked up last week when he didn't really participate at all
11:18in that Raiders joint practice.
11:20He was actually out there.
11:20People have said he wasn't out there.
11:22He was out there, but he was out there with a muscle shirt on and some sweats
11:25and walking around with the McNair kids and that type of thing, right?
11:29Like he wasn't participating.
11:31Might as well not have been out there.
11:32And so it is an odd thing if there wasn't a setback.
11:37And, of course, it's a discouraging thing if there was.
11:39And so if you had asked me this a week and a half, ten days ago, two weeks ago,
11:44I would have felt really encouraged.
11:45I was optimistic, actually, that Tankdale was not only going to be back,
11:50but perhaps be ready to play.
11:51He's not playing against Buffalo.
11:52Well, we see the workout videos.
11:54It looks like he's moving fluid.
11:55It looks like he could be Tank.
11:56Tank, and then he's not out there.
11:58So it's definitely been kind of a yo-yo type of feeling, like up and down.
12:02And, no, I don't have a great sense for when we're going to see him.
12:05But if you were to hold my feet to the fire right now,
12:08I would guess that he starts the season either on IR or PUP list
12:11or something to that effect, which would be really discouraging
12:15and disappointing because everybody is rooting for Tank,
12:18on top of the fact that just having him would add a whole other dimension
12:22to this offense.
12:23That old Instagram life ain't always real, is it?
12:26Well, it's not.
12:27I thought him running routes against disease outsharing and company was real.
12:34Yeah.
12:34Well, I thought.
12:35Well, I expected by now, kind of to your question,
12:38I expected by now to have an answer to my original question,
12:41which was when will Tankdale be ready for violence?
12:44And I don't know the answer.
12:46I don't know if they know the answer, right?
12:49And so without that, it's hard to predict when we might see him.
12:52Well, we know we're about to be through three preseason games.
12:55And it has not occurred.
12:56And it makes you – you are doubtful that they would throw him out there
13:00having seen no action in the joint practices, no action in preseason,
13:03and even being dialed back at practice.
13:06Kind of hard to believe that he'd go out there and be ready for week one
13:09or week two or week three for that match.
