00:05your home for the Texans.
00:08Houston's sports leader is 95.7 The Fan.
00:13Mmm, mmm, mmm.
00:16Every week, though.
00:17It's a Mo'Kerrim Injury Lawyers Reaction Monday on 95.7 The Fan.
00:23Here's The Drive with Sterner and Hughley.
00:28Yeah, turn up that music right there, T1 Time.
00:32You know what time it is.
00:33It is a Reaction Monday on The Drive.
00:36Show is out.
00:37Sean is in.
00:38And it's that time, y'all.
00:40It's that man, Andre Ware, brought to you.
00:43Brought to you, Houston, by the fine folks over at ImageNet Consulting.
00:47Big shout-out to ImageNet Consulting for making this happen, man.
00:51It's always good on a weekly basis to get Andre Ware.
00:54Where to find folks in this beautiful city know where to tune in and hear him talking college ball,
01:00talking pro ball, talking Texans, and sometimes a little marriage advice Ron got into last week.
01:06But nonetheless, Dre, what's good, baby?
01:08How we doing?
01:09You got it, man.
01:10It's always better on a Monday after the Texans win a game.
01:15And so we are in the clouds today.
01:19Come on, man.
01:20Come on.
01:20You hear that little background, don't you?
01:21I hear that, man.
01:23I hear you firing that off a little bit.
01:25Hey, I gave it to T.
01:26That was a surprise.
01:27T's got all the creative freedom in the world to build your intro, man.
01:31Get ready.
01:32Whenever it happens, it's going to be live, bro.
01:35But hey, real quick, man.
01:36The Texans adding Marvin Harrison Jr., man, for a second-round pick.
01:41Look, I know there's a lot of opinions out there about the value of a second-round pick,
01:45about the history of Marvin Harrison Jr., both the distant history as well as, obviously,
01:50the last four or five games in Arizona.
01:54Just, man, I just opened the floor up to you, man.
01:56Your thoughts on Marvin Harrison being added to this roster?
02:00I love it because I don't know that you're going to get a player with that pick in this
02:05upcoming draft that has the physical tools of a guy like Marvin Harrison Jr.
02:11Now, the only thing that you could, you know, maybe poke a hole in is that why not another
02:17offensive lineman for that second-round pick, you know?
02:20But it's another game-changer, another playmaker opposite Nico Collins, and I just think they
02:29need someone else to kind of step in and fill that void.
02:33And also, Clint, and I think you may know this as well as I, that it's kind of saying that
02:38we are transitioning to a pass-first offense when you make a move like this and not the
02:45dominant running physical team that you sold all offseason.
02:49So, I'm okay with it.
02:50As long as they can acknowledge it and it changes and you win football games, absolutely,
02:56you make that change.
02:58Dre, I know, look, you're in no position to necessarily speak about Arizona and the organization,
03:03and I would never ask you to do that, but I think we all know that there's something
03:09there when a player and how players respond and the support they have in an organization
03:16that's, let's call it, it's less than desired in terms of kind of the dysfunction that's
03:22going on in Arizona, totally different than what's going on in Houston.
03:26I personally chalk up maybe some of the shots being fired at Marvin Harrison Jr.
03:33are probably more in line with, hey, man, it's hard to go to work every day at Arizona.
03:38What are your thoughts on just kind of some of the negative, you know, hey, he's quitting
03:41on routes, he's not giving 100%.
03:43What's your thoughts on that being a reality in Arizona?
03:47It's got to be frustrating.
03:48You and I both know that there are certain organizations that are notorious for losing,
03:52and they will continue to take the Dolphins being one.
03:55They hadn't been relevant basically since Marino, I would think, and so they go out
04:00and they sign Malik Willis from the Titans, bring him in, and you know right away that
04:05that's not going to work out.
04:07Well, when the Cardinals named Jacoby Brissett, no, you know, no shots.
04:12I mean, I guess they're catching strays, but when you sign certain guys, especially at
04:18that position, you know what the season's going to look like.
04:22Jacoby has been a career backup for most of his career, had opportunities to start when
04:27guys have gotten hurt.
04:28But if you're naming him the starter going into the draft, you know exactly what's going
04:32on.
04:33They are not trying to win games at any cost, and that affects a guy like Marvin Harrison,
04:40Jr. directly.
04:41And so if you know you're not getting the ball, these guys can be divas.
04:45They're going to shut it down and maybe not finish a route or when he knows that the ball's
04:49not coming his way, that'll change because of the climate and the locker room in which
04:55he's walking into, as well as the head coach he's going to be playing for here, who requires
05:00maximum effort every single day.
05:03So I expect a totally different football player.
05:06I expect a guy that's coming here that's going to have, you know, getting a fresh start and
05:10an opportunity to kind of dispel what was being said about him in Arizona.
05:15Dray, I'm going to take you back a little bit to your playing days with the Detroit
05:19Lions when you were with them.
05:2190 to 93, right?
05:23I did a little digging and, you know, the Lions, to my research, never really made a
05:29mid-season trade.
05:30But I did find that you guys acquired Brett Perryman right before the 91 season when the
05:37Lions already had guys like Robert Clark and Willie Green and yet a young Herman Moore.
05:41And just curious from your perspective, being a part of that team and how it could apply
05:45to, you know, making an addition like this for the Texans receiver core, when you've got,
05:50you know, guys like that and where the Texans have Nico and Noel and Hutch and company, how
05:56challenging can that be on a team from an offensive coordinator, quarterback, receiver standpoint
06:00to just try to make that fit at this point in time?
06:04Especially with that position group, Sean.
06:06And it's a great question.
06:07When we brought Brett in, we added an element of explosiveness.
06:12And that's, I'm sure, what this coaching staff and the organization is hoping that will
06:17transpire by bringing in a guy like Marvin Harrison Jr.
06:20But, yeah, that room, kind of, you massage that room a little bit because there's some egos
06:30in that room.
06:31There are nobody, there's nobody nervous, more nervous right now than a guy like Kayshaun
06:35Booty or Xavier Hutchinson or anyone else, Jared Wayne.
06:39When you give up a second round pick, those guys, if you draft one, they're expected to
06:44come in and start for you.
06:47If you bring one in, you give up a pick to get a player, you know that player is going
06:51to participate.
06:53And at the very least, he is a complimentary piece that's going to play a lot of snaps.
06:58That means somebody's not active that week.
07:01That means somebody is not getting as much of an attention as they once did.
07:06All those things happen, especially in the wide receiver room where there are tremendous
07:11egos.
07:12I know, Dre, across the board in that wide receiver room, they just got better and the
07:16depth is better.
07:17And an offensive system that just overemphasizes distributing the football, I mean, this is
07:22a bigger get than even just the name Marvin Harrison Jr.
07:26Speaking of distributing the football, CJ Stroud, man.
07:29Look, I knew that CJ Stroud, I never doubted CJ Stroud's ability to play the quarterback
07:36position and spin the ball around the park at a high level.
07:39I'd be lying, Dre, if I didn't tell you for five games now, for the most part, five games
07:44now, I'm not in awe of just how successful he's been throwing the football given everything
07:50that's going on around him, given the lack of separation, the, you know, the, the, I mean,
07:57zero, zero interception worthy passes.
08:00I mean, the, the, the level at which he's playing right now is, is, is wild.
08:05No doubt about it, Clint.
08:07When you, you talk about seven touchdown passes and he hadn't put the ball in harm's way.
08:12I love underdog stories.
08:14I love second chance stories.
08:16I love guys that bet on themselves.
08:19And so he bet on himself and it was supposed to be a year in which, you know, he just
08:25managed
08:25and not messed it up.
08:27And the Texas were going to be this, you know, this Superbowl caliber team.
08:32Well, out of the gate, the first four weeks, that wasn't the case, but the one consistent
08:37from this year and now through five weeks has been CJ Stroud.
08:42There's never been a question about what he was doing from a completion standpoint, from
08:47an understanding standpoint, whatever it is.
08:50I like to see guys get paid.
08:52I think he is well on his way to, to doing exactly that and not having it minimized to
08:58just being a game manager.
08:59He is, he has prevailed over a lot.
09:02He has gone through a lot and, uh, and has come out on the other side of it because he
09:07believed in himself and the guys in that locker room believe they can win when number
09:13seven is in the lineup each and every week.
09:15That is something that the organization cannot take lightly.
09:19Dre, the, the, I just told you, I never, never doubted CJ Stroud's ability to, to play
09:24the, the, the quarterback position at a high level.
09:27The part, the part that I, that I have questioned was the leadership and, and, and the alpha and
09:33the taken, I don't mean being a good guy and I don't mean being a leader because you're
09:37a good player.
09:38And I'm talking about that.
09:39Take control, hold people accountable.
09:42And I'm going to tell you, man, the, the most beautiful thing about from a, from a quarterback
09:47perspective that I've watched CJ do, and I may be reading into this.
09:51You tell me if I am reading into it too much, but the interaction on the sideline with the
09:55head coach, D'Amico Rhines and in a, in a healthy way, I haven't seen some of the, some
10:00of the kind of interactions may be friction between him and Kaylee on the sideline, which
10:04I think is healthy by the way.
10:06Um, you know, that is something we haven't seen the post game presser of him saying, Hey
10:11man, you know, talking about Kaylee in a way of like, yeah, man, we're, we're, he's doing
10:15things more, I guess, more in a, a detailed manner, a specific manner.
10:21I just overall, I love what I'm feeling and hearing about CJ Stroud off the field as well.
10:28Yeah.
10:28You know, I'll go back to the first part of your question.
10:31Guys just lead differently.
10:32You know, uh, yeah, I spent a lot of time with Warren moon.
10:36He was a leader that was sort of like CJ.
10:38He would do things behind the scenes, but never out as teammates or a coaching staff or the
10:44organization in public.
10:46That's just not his style, but behind the scenes, he was a totally different dude.
10:51Um, and CJ's, you know, he, the second part of that is that CJ is D'Amico's guy.
10:57That's why they, that's why you see the relationship that they have on the field.
11:02That's why CJ goes out for the coin toss by himself as just one captain, as opposed to
11:10the op, the opposition bringing out four or five guys.
11:13Sometimes they are telling you that they are good, that everything in the city of Houston
11:18between D'Amico Ryan's and CJ Stroud is good.
11:21They're telling you in every way possible, but he's just not the kind of leader that's
11:26going to do it publicly.
11:28He'll do it at practice.
11:29He'll do it at, you know, walkthroughs.
11:31He'll do it in, in pregame, all of that stuff in the locker room, but you're just not going
11:35to see that side of him, uh, publicly.
11:38And that's, that's okay by me.
11:39Andre Ware joining us on the drive.
11:42Dre, uh, you know, people in Houston thought times were going to be really good before this
11:46thing got kickstarted.
11:47And then Owen four slapped us all in the face.
11:49And then here we are right.
11:51Uh, D'Amico Ryan's takes back defensive play, calling duties.
11:55I know it's one game.
11:56I know it was an inferior opponent.
11:58Uh, but at least from my perspective, I expected a little bit, um, you know, tougher
12:03competition, a more formidable Titan team on Sunday than the one that we watched.
12:07I want to know if you were able to discern any difference in, you know, the way that you
12:13saw the defense play line up their aggressiveness, um, with D'Amico Ryan's calling the shots
12:19yesterday.
12:19Yeah.
12:20Early in the game, I was concerned, Sean, because of how, uh, with little resistance,
12:26Tennessee went down the field.
12:27I'm like, Oh boy, we're going to have, we're in for one here on the road.
12:31Who knows what the weather's going to turn into, uh, because it was supposed to have been
12:35bad yesterday, but it was, it was fine all game long.
12:38Um, but with that, um, they took care of business after that initial drive.
12:45And then it became, you know, field goals by the Texans and things of that sort.
12:49And they held to just one field goal.
12:51That's his immediate impact.
12:52When, when, uh, when the head coach regains playing ability, whether it's on offense or
12:58on defense, that is a clear message to that unit that, Hey, we have got to step up, whether
13:03they were getting it before or not.
13:05That is a, that is a, Hey, the head coach has eyes on us now.
13:10And so we've got to do our part and that's exactly how they played after that first drive
13:15and the remainder of the game.
13:17It was good to see they were able to shut down the run and cut that valve off and then
13:22force Tennessee to throw the football.
13:24And then man, it was nice to see Clowney on the field with Will Anderson Jr on the field
13:30with Daniel Hunter, um, big Logan, our, our Cougar brother.
13:35And he's on the field making plays Logan Hall.
13:37So to see that and not have to blitz to get the kind of pressure they were getting, it
13:43just tells me you are loaded in that area.
13:46Now you just got to stop the run early in games against other opponents like the Cowboys
13:51and the Colts and the Bengals and bills.
13:54Hey, Dre, I thought, I thought Logan, I thought he took out cam and I thought cam was cooked
13:59on that one.
13:59You and me both, man.
14:01When he hit him, I don't know if you guys heard it, but during the broadcast, I stepped
14:05all over Mark with a big, Ooh, it was, it was so explosive in the, in the hit that he
14:11made on cam war.
14:12I couldn't help myself, man.
14:14Hey, when they, the best part watching it on TV, man, it happened in real time.
14:18And you was like, man, that was violent.
14:19Yeah.
14:19And then they come back and they, they show it in slow motion and everything's in slow
14:23motion except for like the, the actual contact.
14:26And you're like, man, that looked violent in slow motion, man.
14:29I was ready for him to throw a flag.
14:31I'm like, ah, here we go.
14:32Yeah.
14:33Hey, but to cam's credit, he got right back up, man.
14:35And kept, kept throwing darts.
14:37That's it, man.
14:37He, he got up one of these days.
14:39They're going to learn in Tennessee to play a little bit more on schedule and, and, and,
14:42uh, and not get his ass killed, but we'll, we'll, we'll see how that goes, man.
14:46Hey, Dre, man, we appreciate it, man.
14:48Uh, always good to have you, man.
14:50We're looking forward to, to this season.
14:53Hopefully we can have more winning, more winning, uh, Andre Ware appearances than losing, but either
14:58way it goes, man, we always love having you on and, and, um, and respect what you got
15:02to say, brother.
15:02Love you guys, man.
15:04And, uh, enjoy the show every single day.
15:07I got it on from two to six.
15:08So I'm somewhere listening to you, whether I'm working or just, uh, traveling around
15:12the city.
15:13Well, we greatly appreciate it.
15:14A big shout out to image net consulting for, uh, for letting it happen, for making it happen.
15:20Image net consulting, man.
15:21We, we greatly appreciate you.
15:23All right, Dre.
15:23Thank you, man.
15:24Thank you guys.
