00:00All right, welcome back here on a Reaction Monday
00:03as we are now in the Andre Ware Show,
00:06joined by the host of the Andre Ware Show, Andre Ware.
00:10It's sponsored by ImageNet Consulting.
00:14Andre, how surprised were you with the outcome of yesterday's game?
00:20I think a lot of people were confident the Texans playing the Giants at home
00:24with a young quarterback that hadn't been in the building a long time.
00:27And how surprised were you by yesterday's outcome?
00:32Yeah, Shel, I was very surprised.
00:34I mean, you go back to when the schedule first was released
00:38and you see the Giants on the schedule, you just mark that one down.
00:42And then you get closer to it, you get into the season,
00:45and you start looking down the schedule.
00:47Well, Jackson darts out.
00:49You know, the Giants are coming to Reliance Stadium.
00:52That's one that we know we're going to get.
00:54And so it's very surprising, the outcome.
00:58And then you add to the mix that Jackson darts out, as I mentioned,
01:02and then first start for the Giants at quarterback, you're thinking,
01:10oh, yeah, this is one that we're going to get.
01:11We'll go into the bye week three and four.
01:14And it just didn't happen that way.
01:16Dre, let's talk about – well, I want to get to the offensive side of the ball, man.
01:19But this defense is – when you think it can't get any worse, it does.
01:23I mean, that overtime was flat-out embarrassing for any defense,
01:26much less one that is supposed to be historically great.
01:30And I know that ship has sailed, but I can't help but using it as a talking point
01:35because I think it was very real.
01:36I think we were all bought into it.
01:37But when you look at this defense, you know, what do they got to do
01:44to get back to where we can – where you at least have a chance to win
01:47with – you know, in those kind of circumstances like we were in yesterday?
01:52I was saying, Clint, that the rotational players right now
01:55are really hurting this defense.
01:58And I mentioned it this morning.
02:00Guys like Tim Settle, they're not on this roster.
02:03And then when you get in a situation where you're in overtime
02:06and the Giants are, you know, doing what they're doing with the football
02:11and their opportunity with it, I think at that point,
02:14starters have to be on the field no matter what.
02:18Because you're trying to close out a game, it's not a time to rotate.
02:22Yeah, they're all pros, but some guys are just flat-out better than others.
02:27Some guys are flat-out more experienced than others.
02:30I haven't done the deep dig, so to speak, and go back and watch every game
02:35where it's crunch time, where the defense hasn't made a stop.
02:39But yesterday, my eyes were squarely in the middle of the formation.
02:43And you got guys trying to jump around blocks, opening up a lane for motor,
02:48and we know what he can do when he does it.
02:52Well, they're heading into the bye week.
02:54By the way, Andre, we're with us.
02:56As you know, at the end of the segment, we do ask Andre anything.
03:01You can text in, YouTube, Twitch, any questions.
03:04He's getting a little risky now, ain't he?
03:05Let's do it.
03:06Two and five, he's a little risky.
03:08He's advertising early these days.
03:10I'm trying to get – we want to get him in.
03:12I've gotten a couple, but go ahead.
03:14Any questions, sports or non-sports related, and Andre will answer it for you.
03:20They're going to the bye week.
03:21Again, you've got to adjust from what you're seeing, right?
03:25Maybe you came into the year and you thought this was going to be a run,
03:29smash-mouth offense, but now you're adjusting to seeing that it looks like
03:33it should be a passing-led offense.
03:36Defensively, you've got to adjust to what you're seeing.
03:38So what is the best that this thing can look like?
03:42Going into the bye week, what adjustments need to be made as we kind of
03:48recalibrate what we think about what this defense actually is from what we've
03:52seen?
03:52Man, that's a head-scratcher show because, you know, I was thinking, hey,
03:56let's lock up, play some man-to-man, let these guys go eat and get after the
04:00quarterback.
04:01And neighbors, along with Malachi Fields, they just put on the show against
04:07Lasseter and Stingley.
04:08And so, you know, I don't know that that's the answer.
04:12That's the one that I might go forward with and say, hey, we got a good
04:16secondary.
04:16It was tabbed as one of the best, if not the best, secondary on the back end.
04:20Bullock, he's struggling tackling right now.
04:23So you just scratch your head and you wonder where the answers are going to come
04:28from.
04:28They've got a week to find them before they play, go out to L.A. to face the
04:32Chargers.
04:33But it's certainly a head-scratcher at this point.
04:36You know, the crazy thing to me, and I can't remember if it was fourth quarter
04:39overtime, but I know, I remember a show sitting next to him, he commented on it
04:42when it happened.
04:43But it was, we were blitzing the nickel defender, or maybe the dime, to the left
04:47of the quarterback.
04:48And it was off a neighbor's head.
04:49He was in the slot.
04:50And, well, the quarterback just pulled it and threw it through where the defender
04:54just left, right?
04:55The blitzing nickel defender.
04:56And you look at that, and then neighbors catches it, and he just kind of floats
04:59out there, and he tries to dead leg move the defender.
05:03I mean, he's out there in no man's land in space, right?
05:06That's the part to me, Dre, that I just don't remember seeing this defense.
05:10Like, if they, in the past, had they made that call and that guy blitzed, that
05:16safety wouldn't have been 15 yards deep and then came down and kind of played
05:20cast net tackle.
05:21That guy would have been in his grill as soon as he caught the ball and at least
05:25making him miss immediately.
05:27I mean, the whole, the execution of some of the calls are so far off that it's hard
05:32for me to believe that's not what they're being asked to do.
05:36Yeah, it's unfortunate, and we didn't see this in the past where it was, you know,
05:41guys were glued to receivers, whether it was zone or man.
05:44There was just a tighter window and a tackle right on the spot rather than a
05:50tackle, and you can turn around, process the defense, do what you're going to do,
05:54and then, you know, maybe somebody shows up in that period of time, maybe not.
05:58And it certainly seemed like the latter as of late.
06:01But, yeah, you've got to play this thing a little closer, top down a little bit.
06:07If you expose yourself to some big plays, so be it.
06:11Rally after that.
06:12But you can't consistently let teams just drive, methodically drive the ball down the
06:18field like the Giants were doing yesterday.
06:21Hey, let's flip over to the offensive side of the ball.
06:23And I don't want to oversimplify things, but, I mean, for radio, a lot of times that's the
06:27best route to take.
06:28But, you know, when I look at this offense, like yesterday, and they've been better for
06:34the most part this season.
06:35I mean, but yesterday, Dre, I want you to tell me if I'm wrong.
06:39It seems like this game plan offense of changing kind of what your strengths are, what your point
06:45of emphasis are, week to week, it seems like yesterday was one that bit them in the ass.
06:51Because the Giants were so bad in the run game, or versus the run, stopping the run, we decided
06:56we're going to play Braden Smith 41% of the snaps, which the part of that that I want to
07:01always mention is when Braden Smith plays, you obviously take an eligible, a legit pass
07:06catcher off the field for your quarterback.
07:09But it seems like to me, Dre, that in that month, from a game plan perspective, they took
07:14the approach of we're going to try to run the football instead of do what we've done
07:17all year long, and spread them out, and flip it around the park, and let CJ decide whether
07:21we can win this game or not.
07:23Is that making it too simple, or do you see it kind of through that same lens?
07:27Well, I agree and disagree with you on a couple of points, or a point or two here.
07:34Because yesterday was what they started the season doing.
07:40The week before that in London is where we thought they had emerged to, what they've
07:46morphed to, which is a pass first, run second, or set up the run with a pass kind of offense.
07:54And so yesterday, seeing, and is that the correct percentage, 41%?
07:58Braden Smith was on the field 41% of the snaps.
08:01Oh my God, it's worried.
08:02No wonder I feel the way I do about yesterday's game.
08:07And I'm not asking for five wide, or spread it out, and run and shoot, air raid, that
08:12kind of stuff.
08:13But man, I thought we were honestly past the sixth offensive lineman when you made the
08:18trade for Marvin Harrison.
08:20I thought we were past the sixth offensive lineman when Tank Dale was elevated to the
08:2553.
08:26Okay, we're getting ready to have some fun offensively with this group of guys, spread
08:31them out.
08:31Oh, Woody's going to have great running angles, because everybody's going to be out
08:35in space.
08:35All we did was pack it back in like we started the season doing.
08:39You made all these trades and transactions, yet you go right back to the same way you started
08:45the season, which has everybody frustrated.
08:48That in and of itself.
08:50And now that I hear 41, I was just about over yesterday.
08:53And I hear you say 41% of Braden Smith, the sixth offensive lineman.
08:58Why do you carry so many tight ends if you have to have a lineman to block?
09:03That means, you know, maybe your tight ends aren't as talented as you thought, because they
09:08can't control the edge of the line of scrimmage.
09:11And you got to have an extra lineman to do that.
09:14Andre Ware with us on the Andre Ware Show, which is sponsored by ImageNet Consulting.
09:19And maybe you've answered it, because I was wondering from you, man, as somebody who has
09:25played in the NFL, who's won a Heisman Trophy, who's been in multiple offenses, why was it
09:32so different last week when you see CJ become the AFC player of the week to what we see this
09:40week?
09:40Is it more than, is it just the Giants are that much better than the Jags?
09:44Or is it kind of what you were just talking about?
09:47I think it's more of the latter.
09:48And, you know, you take the ball out of CJ's hands because, you know, you're predominantly
09:55run when Braden's in the game.
09:57Now, they did throw it some, but you're also taking a receiving threat out of the game to
10:02just protect.
10:03And CJ knows when the blitz is coming, how to protect himself now.
10:09Now, we had a big sample size of that last week, but to see it go back and revert.
10:14And then where was Nico yesterday?
10:16I asked Robert Hensley, you know, what, where were his targets?
10:19I think it was five targets, two catches for six yards.
10:22And that was late in the game.
10:25And so he disappears when you do this stuff.
10:28So that part of it's frustrating.
10:31Hopefully they get it fixed during the bye week.
10:33Hey, well, let's, let's, let's talk about a little positive here.
10:37I know it gives it two and five, but I think me and show are built for it.
10:40Dre, I don't know if you, I don't know, I don't know if you, if you're ready Sunday
10:43and Monday, Hey, well, what about, uh, what about tank Dale, man?
10:48I mean, it was just a, um, I told, I told show and you know him personally, so you know
10:53this, but he did the post game press conference, uh, presser, I mean, post game show with Sean
10:58Pendergast and I last night, there's just an aura around this dude that, that, uh, that is
11:03very real when you're in a room with him.
11:04Obviously the fans love him, but it was good to see him get back out there and do his thing.
11:09And, and most importantly, walk off the damn field when it was over.
11:12So we could all, we could all, uh, hope to see him again, man, just your thoughts on tank
11:16Dale.
11:16Yeah, I couldn't be more proud of tank and happy for him.
11:20I, you know, you know what he's gone through in terms of the extreme rehab and trying to
11:24get himself back and it being almost a complete two years before, uh, you just elated.
11:31Uh, I was so happy for him being a Cougar.
11:34Uh, I couldn't contain my emotions, just seeing him jog on the field, come out the tunnel before
11:39the game even started, uh, to introductions that, that, uh, that gave me chills because
11:45I've had teammates that, you know, didn't return from injuries and things of that sort.
11:49And you know what the game means to them.
11:51They're trying to fight to get back, but they never really seem to get there to see him do
11:56what he did yesterday in his first trip back and then returned to punt had a nice punt
12:01return in there as well.
12:02Uh, it's good to see tank back and, and I I'm, I'm over the moon, happy for him.
12:07All right.
12:08Uh, let's do it now.
12:09Seven, one, three, five, seven, two, four, six, 10 YouTube and Twitch ask Andre anything.
12:14Uh, let's start with this one.
12:16The first one we got is about who you were just talking about with tank.
12:19What, what should be his role now we've seen him play?
12:23What should be his role moving forward in the offense?
12:25I'd play tank everywhere.
12:27I would move him around just so you can't get a beat on him.
12:30So when you want to create an explosive, it could come from anywhere.
12:34So whether he's in the slot, which he's capable of doing that, you run him on inner, inner
12:38rounds, they tried that, uh, yesterday and you can split him out wide because he can,
12:42though he's not a big, big receiver.
12:44He is great getting off press coverage.
12:47So you don't really worry about that with, with tank.
12:49I think he can play all over.
12:50It's just up to him, uh, and this is somewhat of a new offense for him as well.
12:55Uh, though he's had some time to study it in his, you know, while going through rehab.
13:00But, uh, once he learns pretty much every receiver spot and that should be his goal,
13:06that of, uh, Xavier Hutchinson, uh, or like Xavier Hutchinson, that's how I would use last
13:11take where you don't know where you're going to get hit from when he's in the game.
13:15Ask Andre anything, Andre, who is your favorite white musical artist or group?
13:22Oh boy.
13:23That's a good one.
13:23Uh, that's a great one.
13:25As a matter of fact, I might go Justin Timberlake.
13:28Come on now.
13:28That's the best concert that I have ever seen in person in Nashville, Tennessee.
13:37My God, he could go show.
13:39He started the concert on one end of the arena.
13:42The stage elevated took you to the, the back part where I was sitting.
13:47I got some cheap seats because I was just showing up to do a game the next day and heard
13:51he was in town and he performed half the concert right in my face.
13:55Stage lifted up, went back where it originally started and he finished the concert.
14:00It was phenomenal.
14:01Non-stop.
14:02I mean, dude is non-stop.
14:04He's, he's, you just don't know.
14:05You know, he's got that big a catalog, man.
14:07Oh yeah.
14:08He can go all night long.
14:09Yeah.
14:10He doesn't help.
14:10He pulled that old, he pulled that old wardrobe malfunction with those Janet.
14:14That didn't hurt him.
14:15We got, we don't have to move past that.
14:16Wasn't that him that did that?
14:17It didn't hurt him at all.
14:19It might've elevated him.
14:22Everybody goes to look at that and sees Justin.
14:24Yeah, not her though.
14:25Uh, all right.
14:26Last one, text, uh, as, as Andre, anything got to start a team, you're taking prime Tom
14:33Brady or prime Lamar Jackson.
14:37I'm going Brady, man.
14:38I mean, uh, Brady knows how to win Brady at this point knew how to keep himself, uh, on
14:46the field.
14:47Um, you know, I know Lamar's electric, but man, when you went, what is he?
14:51Seven of them babies.
14:52Uh, that, that's hard to pass up, man.
14:54Hey, what's, what's more impressive, Dre?
14:57This is always like, what's more impressive?
14:58The seven, and I don't even remember the number.
15:01I should probably know this before I ask you, but the seven Superbowls are like the 20 of
15:0521 AFC championships or whatever he went to.
15:07I mean, just to be to that, that level of success sustained over 20 years is wild, man.
15:13Yeah.
15:13The seven, that's almost, that's, that's damn near impossible.
15:17Um, but then, and the 21 is pretty much, but 2021 is impossible as well.
15:21So that just goes to show you the level of consistency in his career.
15:26Uh, and he was on the field for most of it.
15:29It seems like every year I draft Lamar Jackson as my fantasy quarterback and I wind up regretting
15:35it because he's not on the field for a certain amount of weeks, half a month of the season,
15:40so to speak.
15:40So that's the frustration.
15:41I love Lamar.
15:43I have a relationship with him.
15:44I think he's going to eventually get one.
15:45He has just got to be available and on the field.
15:49All right, Andre, we appreciate you.
15:51Uh, we'll talk to you in a couple of weeks by week.
15:53We'll talk to you in a couple of weeks, man.
15:55And, uh, all right guys, see if they get, they can get on track.
15:58That's Andre where the Andre where show sponsored by image net consulting.
16:03Uh, Justin, I thought he was going to M&M for sure.
16:05Oh, I thought it.
16:07I thought he was going to be something sneaky, like maybe eighties, something eighties.
16:13Like when he was, when he was younger, I'm telling you, Tyler, I did not have, I would
16:18not, I would not have had Justin Timberlake, but I, I completely agree with him.
16:23I love the answer.
16:24Justin's in my top five all time.
16:26That's my guy.
16:27All time.
16:28When you start talking about performing and the whole, the whole deal, it's hard.
16:33I'm telling you that future sex love song, that album right there just about done it.
16:37Yeah.
16:37He can tee them up for you.
