00:00Hello there, welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:05We have a thunderstorm warning today covering some parts of England and Wales.
00:10Torrential rain will be the issue, the risk of thunder as well as lightning and associated
00:16with any heavy intense downpours, some gusty winds as well.
00:20Here's your warning zone through the day and this is the weather front which has been gathering
00:25some momentum towards the south overnight.
00:27It's extending northwards through the day so rush hour this morning will cause problems
00:33as well as this evening as it gradually extends towards Scotland, Clipping, Northern Ireland
00:38and then it circulates around as we head through to Friday.
00:42Low pressure, some gusty winds again, some heavy downpours, some brighter breaks possible and
00:48then into the weekend this weather front will bring some outbreaks to rain particularly to
00:52England and Wales with showers elsewhere.
00:55So all in all, yes, the weather has changed and it is wet if not very wet across some parts
01:01this morning.
01:02Let's pick up on some detail.
01:04We do have some showering across western Scotland that's clearing away and then a bit more clouds
01:09elsewhere.
01:10Certainly a canopy of clouds extending ahead of this thundery rain which is moving in across
01:15southern areas through the next few hours.
01:18So by around 6am it's across central southern parts of England and Wales pushing towards the
01:24Midlands and some outbreaks of rain just breaking out towards the north there so ahead of the
01:31main weather front.
01:32Now for Scotland, a fine day.
01:34We'll see some sunny spells, still that onshore breeze coming in from the east and Northern Ireland
01:39seeing a mix of clouds and brighter breaks through the first part of today.
01:44Showery rain perhaps just affecting the Outer Hebrides by this point and that wind will be
01:49stronger across Shetland as well as Orkney.
01:51And then let's watch the progress of this rain as we head through this morning into lunchtime.
01:57It's fairly slow but notice these bright echoes representing some quite torrential downpours.
02:03It will come and go though, yes, and you will see a clearance coming in from the south as we
02:08head through to lunchtime.
02:10But by lunchtime much of Wales is under this thundery rain as well as North Midlands.
02:16East Anglia seeing a clearance and it's coming in across Northern England as well.
02:20A few showers may just develop across central and eastern areas of Scotland and the north
02:25east of England.
02:26Generally speaking though, fine weather further west with some sunshine, similar situation
02:30for Northern Ireland.
02:31A bright day to come, sunshine across Shetland as well as Orkney and the sun will come out
02:35further south but that could trigger some scattered thunderstorms through lunchtime and into the
02:40afternoon.
02:41So by around three, four o'clock this rain is covering Northern England, the far north of
02:47Wales, the Isle of Man.
02:48Here are your temperatures then.
02:50Well after a muggy night, a warm start to the day, we are seeing values yet again rising
02:56to 25 to 27 Celsius across central and southern areas.
02:59Further north, a pleasantly warm day, 21, 22, even 23 in one or two spots.
03:05And even along this east coast with this onshore breeze, we'll see values coming in around 19
03:09to 21 degrees Celsius.
03:11So a pleasant day across the north with some sunshine to end the day.
03:15Not the case though if you're travelling through this evening across Northern England.
03:20Northern Ireland also seeing that rain just creeping in there.
03:23It could ease across Wales for a time but still a legacy of those showers and one or two thunderstorms
03:28dotted around central and southern areas.
03:30Notice this rain is moving in across the border regions, Dumfries and Galloway and expects some heavy downpours here.
03:37A few showers also across eastern counties.
03:41So through this evening and overnight, we watch as this thundery rain pivots.
03:45It's circulating around the centre of the low, which is positioned across the central part of the UK.
03:51So this rain is slow moving.
03:53It is extending westwards, perhaps not really reaching the far west of Scotland, the far west of Northern Ireland.
04:01And it is yet again going to be a mild, if not warm night.
04:0416, 17 degrees Celsius will be your lowest temperature through the early hours of Friday morning.
04:11And Friday will dawn bright for some, wet for others.
04:15This arc of rain continues across Scotland, Northern Ireland and then it moves in yet again across the west country
04:22as well as southwestern parts of Wales.
04:24We could see an area of cloud and rain just blossoming across the far southeast, across the near continent.
04:31And notice these winds are strong as well, particularly for the west country, the south coasting, a brisk breeze and
04:37a breeze coming down this northern side as well towards Northern Ireland.
04:41Stronger winds also associated with this heavier pulse and band of rain across northern and eastern areas of Scotland.
04:48And yes, there will be some heavy rain here as we enter the day.
04:52Some bright skies though as well, some sunshine coming through, but this will again trigger a scattering of showers, which
05:00could turn thundery.
05:01So the risk of some heavy downpours, the risk of thunder as we head through the afternoon.
05:05Through the afternoon, temperatures probably not as high as what we experienced today.
05:09So coming in 2021 across the north and probably 22 to 25 by the south.
05:14But if you are travelling through Friday evening, you may run into a heavy, if not torrential downpour.
05:20Some stronger winds associated with it as well.
05:23Surface water issues, poor visibility.
05:25So some tricky driving conditions are likely.
05:28Through Friday evening and overnight, all of that does clear.
05:32But into Saturday, here's another batch of rain just pushing in.
05:35So after a dry start across England, Wales seeing that rain first, it will extend eastwards.
05:41Quieter weather across Scotland.
05:42Still some showers around there and a few showers for Northern Ireland.
05:45You should miss most of that wet weather.
05:47But then more showers will gather into Sunday.
05:50And yet again, Sunday will turn wet for some.
05:53You can see this area of rain clipping eastern counties.
05:56There's also an area of low pressure moving in, swirling around it.
06:00Outbreaks of rain, showery bursts as well.
06:02So some wet weather and some stronger winds to end Sunday afternoon into evening time.
06:08Here's your city's list then for Saturday.
06:10Yes, some showers around there.
06:12Like to turn heavy at places, the risk again of thunder.
06:15Some brighter breaks coming through.
06:17And that band of rain across more central and eastern areas will eventually clear.
06:21So a scattering showers through the latter part of the day.
06:24Temperatures 20 to 24 degrees Celsius.
06:26But a cooler night coming Saturday and into Sunday.
06:29Wherever you are, have a lovely day today.
06:32And I'll see you again soon.
