00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04It's been a lively night as wet and windy weather pushed in from the west,
00:09all courtesy of a deep area of low pressure.
00:12Not only are we seeing some intense rain and also gales towards the west,
00:16we're also seeing some very warm air, muggy conditions.
00:20Temperatures overnight have held in the high teens across England and Wales
00:24and a mild start to the day across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:28So through Tuesday into Wednesday, you can see where this rain pushing ever eastwards.
00:33It's clearing the east coast by around lunchtime and some brighter weather will follow.
00:38Winds will then gradually ease through the afternoon.
00:41A bit of a fresher start to the day on Thursday, some sunshine around,
00:45also some drifting showers. We'll return to showery bursts as we head into Friday.
00:50Now for the time being, let's just pick up on some of the features of the weather through this morning.
00:54These strong winds touching gale force, particularly across more western areas,
00:58will be associated with this heavy rain, this rain intense within the rain band.
01:04Expect high waves along the coastline and if you are travelling, surface water issues, poor visibility.
01:11And yes, so some tricky, challenging driving conditions through the next few hours.
01:15The rain extends down towards Northern England, but it's cleared Northern Ireland by around 7, 8 o'clock.
01:21Still a windy start to the day, but we will see some showers drifting in.
01:25The rain will be a bit more sporadic across East Wales as well as the rest of England,
01:30but still some heavier downpours embedded within it and it is more moving eastwards.
01:35So notice the sun coming out by around 7, 8 o'clock across Wales as well as the West Country
01:40where it will be windy, particularly along the coastline.
01:43So let's pick up on this rain band. You can see how heavy it is through the early hours of
01:48this morning,
01:49pushing ever eastwards.
01:51Winds again will be strong, gusty associated with that rain band, but that clearance coming in
01:57probably mid-morning for western parts of Scotland, northwest England.
02:02By around lunchtime, it's really just the eastern fringe of England still seeing that cloud and a little rain.
02:07These showers towards the west, though, could be heavy in places, although they will be scattered
02:12and still that fresh wind, but it will be a better end to the day across eastern counties with some
02:17sunshine.
02:18Now, relative to yesterday, temperatures won't be as high.
02:22We saw some extraordinary warmth in the air, particularly across England and Wales on Tuesday.
02:27Through today, though, temperatures still rising very nicely, 23, 24 degrees Celsius,
02:32well above average for this time of year. We could see a 20 across places such as Lothian in Scotland,
02:3818 or 19 in Shelter for Northern Ireland, and 22, 21 across Wales.
02:44But it will be blustery through the afternoon with those showers.
02:49So that's the picture through this afternoon.
02:51Into evening time, what's happening?
02:53Well, we continue with those showers just tracking across the country.
02:57Those showers could merge, cluster together, particularly across Scotland,
03:00as we head into the night time.
03:02Some clearer skies around as well, a bit of a breeze coming through,
03:06and those showers continuing, particularly across southern and western-facing coasts.
03:10Inland, some clearer skies and temperatures falling,
03:14so it is going to be a chillier start to the day.
03:17Certainly places such as the Midlands,
03:19seeing temperatures probably dipping down to around 10 degrees Celsius,
03:23and 8 or 9 across Northern Ireland.
03:25So a cooler start here, and again, with some brighter weather coming through.
03:29So through Thursday, we'll see some fine conditions,
03:32some showers towards the west.
03:34It turns showery, though, through Thursday night and into Friday,
03:37drier towards the southeast.
03:39A bit of a breeze, breezy are certainly across more northern areas.
03:42And then this weather front straddles in Northern Ireland,
03:45Northern England, North Wales on Saturday.
03:47So here we could see some rain, some fine conditions either side of it,
03:51a lighter breeze towards the southeast.
03:53So here's your city's list on Thursday.
03:56As you can see, the cloud is broken.
03:57Still some warmth in the air, 17 to 20 degrees Celsius.
04:02Into Friday, showery rain moves in away from the southeast,
04:05so we could see more on the way of cloud and some wet weather coming through.
04:09Again, temperatures 16 to 20 Celsius.
04:12And into Saturday, it looks like this.
04:14Across the central zone of the country, some outbreaks of rain.
04:18Either side, we could see an overhang of cloud,
04:20but some brighter breaks coming through.
04:21And again, temperatures still above average for the beginning of October.
