00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Things are slowly settling down from the west temporarily.
00:09Even so, a squeeze on the isobars further east will bring showers and some stronger winds through this morning.
00:14Into this afternoon, a ridge of high pressure promises some brighter skies, particularly across Scotland and Northern Ireland with some
00:20sunshine.
00:21In fact, that's how we see this morning a few showers across Angus, Aberdeenshire.
00:25In January speaking, Scotland is fine with a mix of clouds and brighter skies.
00:29Some sunshine also for Northern Ireland.
00:31A cool northwesterly breeze though and again a few showers towards the far east there.
00:37Notice along the eastern side a stronger wind and that will deliver some showers through this morning, clipping the east
00:44coast, particularly of England.
00:46And with this northwest wind, showers across the Cheshire Gap towards the north and the west of Wales.
00:52One or two lurking for the west country.
00:54Inland though, it's a fine and cool start to the day with some sunny spells.
00:58So through the morning, you can see this low pressure system just sitting towards the North Sea.
01:03And that's the reason why we do have those stronger winds along eastern counties and with the showers frequent through
01:10the first few hours of today.
01:12Any showers across Scotland tending to fade away through the morning.
01:15Sunny spells across more northern areas and we'll see some sunshine across England and Wales.
01:20However, through the morning, a few things happen.
01:23The cloud will build across southern Scotland as well as England and Wales.
01:27Perhaps Northern Ireland seeing more in the way of cloud through the middle part of the day.
01:31We hang on to sunshine across central and northern areas of Scotland with a lighter breeze.
01:36A pleasant day to be out and about.
01:37And still some residual showers just coming through across the northwest of England, particularly for northern parts of Wales as
01:45well.
01:45And the area around Cheshire, Greater Manchester as well as Liverpool Bay.
01:50These showers along this eastern side again will tend to go offshore as we head through the latter part of
01:56today.
01:56And eventually the clouds will break up, allowing for some brighter skies to end Wednesday.
02:00A lighter breeze as well.
02:02A quiet evening to come.
02:04Before that though, let's have a look at the temperatures.
02:06Well, through the afternoon, we're likely to see 16 or 17 across the central belt of Scotland, Northern Ireland as
02:12well.
02:1317 for Wales, mid Wales towards the southeast, 19 or 20 degrees Celsius.
02:18So feeling pleasantly warm in shelter under those brighter skies.
02:24It will turn cool through this evening and overnight.
02:28There could be even a touch of grass frost across glens of Scotland before more cloud thickens through the early
02:33hours of the morning.
02:34And this will bring the prospect of some showery bursts of rain.
02:38Again from the west, Northern Ireland, the far west of Scotland.
02:42Irish seacoast seeing that wind pick up some strength.
02:45And again, some showery bursts just pushing in across the west of Wales as well as the west country.
02:51A drier end to the night elsewhere with a light breeze and some hazy sunshine to start Thursday.
02:58Here are your temperatures in the towns and cities, 9, 10 degrees Celsius.
03:02So a bit of a cool one as well.
03:04First thing then on Thursday morning, some brighter skies being replaced by more clouds as we head through the day
03:10on Thursday.
03:11Notice this rain is fairly sporadic initially as it marches in across Wales as well as Scotland.
03:18And then becomes more persistent with a stronger wind for Northern Ireland as well as Western Scotland by around lunchtime.
03:26Still some showers lurking out there for the west country.
03:29But some brighter weather further east just coming and going as the cloud gradually rolls in from the west.
03:36Through the afternoon then, yes, eventually you'll see that rain across much of Scotland.
03:40away from eastern counties where it will be fairly light.
03:44Further west, you could see some persistent and heavier bursts, particularly for eastern Northern Ireland as well as the Isle
03:51of Man coming in across the northwest of England as well as northern parts of Wales through the afternoon.
03:56And notice hot on its heels, stronger winds across the Irish seacoast down towards the west country.
04:02And that will mean some wet weather as we enter evening time across these parts.
04:06Before that though, in the east, temperatures coming in 20, 21 degrees Celsius and probably 18 or 19 across the
04:14bulk of the country.
04:15Again, with that wet weather hot on its heels as we lose the brightness towards the east.
04:21So that's the picture through a Thursday afternoon.
04:25Now into Friday, the rain gradually clears eastwards.
04:29We'll see a mix of cloud and brighter skies, a few fleeting and light showers.
04:34Winds will ease for a time as well as temperatures arrive at around 17 to 21 degrees Celsius.
04:41But into the weekend, it's pretty much a repeat performance.
04:44This time the rain across Scotland and Northern Ireland on Saturday as the winds pick up some strength, pushing southwards
04:50and turning more showery on Sunday.
