00:00Hello, good afternoon.
00:02Well, as is pretty common at this time of the year,
00:03fog is going to feature quite heavily in the forecast
00:05through this weekend and for some of us into next week too.
00:08It's all courtesy of this large area of high pressure
00:11that's been dominating the UK for several days now.
00:13Notice barely an isobar on the chart,
00:15so very little in the way of a breeze.
00:17But as we go towards Monday into Tuesday,
00:20this area of low pressure is going to start to move
00:22slowly closer to the UK and these weather fronts
00:24will eventually bring some rain, particularly to the south.
00:27Now, out and about this afternoon,
00:28it's actually the north that's seeing the most likelihood
00:31of seeing some light spells of rain and drizzle,
00:33particularly northeast England and parts of Scotland,
00:36but nothing particularly prolonged or heavy
00:38and some places will stay dry.
00:40Now, further south is where we saw most of the fog
00:42through the course of this morning
00:43and that still hasn't cleared in some spots.
00:45It may well linger into this afternoon,
00:47but a few places will brighten up with some spells of sunshine.
00:51There'll also be one or two slightly heavier showers,
00:53primarily across the English Channel,
00:55just grazing parts of Sussex, maybe Kent and Hampshire,
00:58and also a few showers through the Irish Sea.
01:01Now, if we do see the fog linger,
01:03it's going to stay pretty chilly, I think,
01:04through the course of this afternoon.
01:06Highs no better than maybe 8 or 9 degrees,
01:08but where we see the best of the sunshine,
01:1010 to 12 degrees,
01:12although generally speaking,
01:13temperatures a little bit below par for this time of the year.
01:16Now, through this evening,
01:17it stays pretty cloudy and damp
01:18across more northern parts of the UK,
01:20particularly Scotland and northeast England,
01:23still the odd spit and spot of rain and drizzle at times.
01:26But for many, it will be a dry night
01:28and we'll see mist and fog once again readily reforming,
01:31particularly across parts of the Midlands,
01:33central and southern England.
01:34And here we do have a warning in place already.
01:37So some pretty poor visibilities by the end of the night,
01:40visibilities perhaps less than 50 metres,
01:42so some poor travelling conditions for some spots.
01:45There will be some isolated patches of fog
01:47elsewhere across the UK too,
01:49perhaps most likely across Northern Ireland.
01:51And where we see skies stay clear overnight,
01:53it will stay, it will turn quite chilly.
01:55So possibly temperatures in the countryside
01:57getting quite close to freezing,
01:59low enough for a touch of frost.
02:01So a pretty cold and murky start to the day
02:03for many areas on Sunday morning.
02:05The fog lingering on through the morning
02:07across small southern parts of the UK in particular,
02:10and perhaps even into the afternoon in some valleys,
02:13particularly through the Severn Valley,
02:14down towards Worcestershire and perhaps Wiltshire,
02:16those areas seeing the fog slowest to clear.
02:19But for most, it is actually looking like
02:21a much sunnier day on Sunday,
02:22particularly for parts of Northern or Western Scotland,
02:25Northern Ireland, Wales and the South.
02:27And here with the sunshine, the light winds,
02:29it won't feel too bad by the afternoon,
02:31temperatures reaching 10 to 12 degrees.
02:33But I think for North East England and Eastern Scotland,
02:35still pretty chilly here with the grey skies
02:38and bits and pieces of rain and drizzle
02:39probably persisting into the afternoon.
02:43Now as we go into Sunday evening,
02:44with the light winds and that quite moist atmosphere,
02:48we are likely to see the mist and fog
02:49once again quite readily reforming,
02:52particularly in the south.
02:53But there will be some patches further north
02:54as we go towards Monday morning too.
02:56So again, if you do have an early journey planned
03:00on Monday morning,
03:00something to pay attention to in the forecast
03:02because there could be some pretty poor visibilities
03:04on the road once again.
03:07So quite a lot of fog, as I say,
03:08over this weekend and into next week,
03:10but a gradual change to something
03:11a little bit more unsettled in the southwest
03:13as we go towards the middle part of next week.
