00:00Hello there, welcome to a Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office. We have
00:05two bands of rain through today, pushing ever northwards and northeastwards. A complex area
00:11of low pressure, slow moving rain and eventually we'll see a ridge of high pressure coming
00:15in and this will mean some quieter weather through Thursday, a chilly start. But that's
00:19not the end of the story, things turn stormy as we head through Thursday evening. For the
00:24time being it's wet outside with showers across the Northern Isles, outbreaks of rain
00:28for central and eastern areas of Scotland. This band of rain moving in overnight and pushing
00:33again eastwards. Some heavier pulses are likely and notice winds are stronger as well, particularly
00:38across Irish seacoast and also Channel Coast, so some high waves associated with that.
00:44Through the morning, this batch of wet weather continues to push northeastwards. We could
00:49see some drier interludes across eastern parts of England, but this rain is drifting in, clearing
00:55Northern Ireland through the afternoon with showers to follow. The rain could pep up, it
01:00could become a bit more intense as we head into afternoon and evening. And again, a driving
01:04wind across central and southern parts of England and Wales. A brisk breeze across western Scotland.
01:10Here we'll see some showers and temperatures struggling a little bit, 11 to 14 degrees Celsius.
01:15So through this evening and overnight, this rain, which could be heavy, particularly through
01:19rush hour across eastern counties, will eventually clear. The rain becomes confined to Shetland
01:25through evening time as well, with some clearer skies just coming in across many parts. This feature
01:31here could bring some thundery downpours, some heavy rain just for a time, but again, it's likely to
01:37ease into the early hours of Thursday morning. Strong winds along this south coast as well. A chilly night
01:44to come, even with a touch of frost in one or two glens. First thing then on Thursday morning,
01:49the heaviest of the rain clears offshore quite quickly and we'll see the rain across central parts
01:55just fade away. Still some showers across western Scotland, most places though having a fine afternoon,
02:00a light breeze with some sunshine, but notice towards the south west. Here's that stormy weather coming in.
02:07Before that though, temperatures again 11 to 14 degrees Celsius, a mix of clouds and sunshine through the
02:12afternoon. Now the Met Office has named Storm Austin coming in on Thursday evening, a deepening area of
02:19low pressure. This is the gust graphic showing where the strongest gusts will be, certainly across western
02:25and southern facing coasts. Inland, gusts could reach 50 to 60 miles an hour and so a wind warning
02:30currently that could be upgraded and rain will spew right across the country. So some heavy pulses to come
02:36with some high rainfall totals, particularly across southern and western areas. We'll keep you posted here
02:41on all our social media channels. Stay tuned and we'll see you again soon.
