00:00Hello, good evening. High pressure is causing the weather to be quite stagnant at the moment
00:05and it's also the reason why we're going to see quite a lot of fog in the next few days
00:09too.
00:10Out and about this evening it's quite a damp picture across parts of northeast England and
00:13eastern Scotland in particular. The rain not particularly persistent or heavy but there'll be
00:18some splashes of drizzle and rain at times through the early hours of Sunday morning. Elsewhere
00:22there's quite a lot of fog in the forecast particularly across Wales, central and southern
00:26parts of England and here we will see the densest patches of fog by the end of the night so
00:31a
00:31warning is in place. But there'll be some fog elsewhere across the UK too, quite patchy in
00:35nature across parts of Northern Ireland and northwest Scotland and where skies remain clear overnight
00:41tonight that's where we like to see the lowest temperatures so it will turn cold enough in the
00:44countryside at least for some frost in the most prone spots but most towns and cities holding up
00:49at between four and six degrees celsius. So a pretty murky start to the day on Sunday,
00:55some very poor visibilities if you are traveling first thing, perhaps visibilities less than 50 meters
01:00bringing some travel disruption in places. Eventually though the fog will lift and clear
01:05most areas but it might well linger into the afternoon in prone river valleys for example
01:09the Severn river valley and perhaps down towards central southern England but for most once the fog has
01:15cleared it is set to be a sunnier day compared to on Saturday and certainly a sunnier picture for
01:20northwest Scotland and Northern Ireland so some sunny spells to come here. Now eastern Scotland
01:25and northeast England will hold on to generally thicker clouds and the cloud may just about produce
01:30one or two light showers at times too. So here it will feel fairly chilly, temperature snow better than
01:35around nine or ten degrees for many but where the sunshine does break through 10 to 14 degrees celsius
01:41and with light winds won't feel too bad at all. Now as we go into Sunday evening the fog will
01:46quite quickly
01:47readily reform and thicken up so expecting another fairly misty and foggy night to come particularly
01:53in the south once again but perhaps not so much in the very far southwest. That's partly because the
01:58winds will be starting to freshen here from a east or southeast direction just lifting the fog into low
02:03cloud but for Wales, the Midlands, eastern parts of England up towards the Vale of York and perhaps
02:08also parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland we will see some dense patches of fog by Monday morning.
02:13Now once again turning pretty cold temperatures in the countryside certainly getting close to freezing
02:18and maybe down to minus three or minus four in some of the colder spots so certainly some frost around
02:24for some of us. So a pretty murky start to the day on Monday do leave some extra time for
02:29your journey
02:30to work or school with some very poor visibilities affecting travel for some of us and the fog may well
02:36linger into the afternoon again for some areas on Monday but for most it is set to be a fairly
02:41fine dry and
02:42bright picture into the afternoon with quite a bit of sunshine actually across more northern and eastern parts
02:47of the UK. Notice down towards the southwest though still a bit more in a weather breeze here some thicker
02:52cloud at times and perhaps even a little bit of rain flirting with the very far southwest of Cornwall and
02:57the
02:57Isles of Scilly. Nonetheless though we have got some mild air trying to creep in here so highs of 14
03:02degrees in
03:03Plymouth. Otherwise though it will be a chilly day particularly where that fog lingers into the afternoon. Highs no better
03:09than six or seven
03:10degrees perhaps where the fog doesn't clear and generally nine or ten degrees is around or slightly below average for
03:16the
03:16time of year. So if we have a look at the bigger picture and we can see that whilst high
03:20pressure is in control of our
03:22weather over the next few days we do have this large area of low pressure sitting in the northeast Atlantic
03:27and as we go
03:28through the next few days that will be sending a series of weather fronts towards more southern parts of the
03:33UK. So some spells rain by Tuesday and
03:36Wednesday particularly across England and Wales. Further north though we've got this much colder air
03:40waiting in the wings arctic air and some of that will start to spread its way southwards across the UK
03:45particularly Scotland by Wednesday and Thursday. So somewhat of a bit of a battleground scenario setting
03:51up between the much milder air in the south and colder dry sunnier conditions pushing down from the north.
03:57So a few things to keep an eye on over the next few days particularly the fog.
