00:00Do you think there's any chance they could cut Jerry Judy?
00:03No, I didn't really think so.
00:05The reason I asked, CBS Sports had cut candidates,
00:07and they listed Jerry Judy as a possible cut candidate for the Cleveland Browns,
00:10and I'm like, not yet.
00:13But my issue is I can't find a reason to not cut him.
00:17Why are you keeping him?
00:19There's only one reason I think he stays on the team.
00:22Why is that?
00:24I think it's clear the starting quarterback has a best friend on the team.
00:28I think it's Jerry Judy.
00:31Well, if you look at, go back and re-watch those TV broadcasts,
00:36and not just the thing that went down with him flashing fours and all that.
00:41Whether or not that was real or not.
00:43They're always beside each other on the sidelines.
00:46Didn't they go to a Cavs games together and all that stuff?
00:48Yeah, they're clearly friendly with each other.
00:49By the way, that's fine.
00:50Again, we talked about it yesterday.
00:54I know he's a veteran.
00:55Is he veteran leadership in that room?
00:58In that wide receiver room?
00:59Jerry Judy?
01:00Well, I'm not sure.
01:01But I think I can give you one reason.
01:03Speaking about this, like, you know, Lyman, you had said yesterday
01:06that you're not hearing anything that's coming out of the building
01:09about players or anything being opposed to Deshaun Watson or anything.
01:13You know, for that matter, you're not hearing anything about Shador,
01:16excuse me, the quarterback, the backup quarterback.
01:18We're not allowed to say his name, apparently.
01:20Dumb.
01:20You've got to reset it.
01:23We've got to reset the what?
01:24The clock.
01:25The clock.
01:25Yeah, we had gone an entire 10 minutes without mentioning his name.
01:29Darn tootin'.
01:30Now we're right back where we started.
01:33You're not going to hear anything.
01:34I think both are likable to their teammates.
01:39And, hell, you heard Shador back on Saturday where he said he didn't really care
01:45for people booing Deshaun Watson.
01:47So they seem to get along with each other.
01:48It's weird.
01:49There's definitely a split amongst fans of who they'd like to swell.
01:53There's a vast majority now who would like to start Shador Sanders after Saturday.
01:59But they seem to be getting along with each other for the most part as a team.
02:03I'm sure there's definitely some guys who don't get along with each other.
02:06That happens.
02:07You've got 90 guys in there.
02:08Things are going to happen.
02:09But I think I have a football reason right off the top of my head as we were talking.
02:14Does Casey Concepcion and Denzel Boston make Jerry Judy's job easier?
02:20I thought so.
02:22And in a way, I thought if he – in a way, vice versa.
02:25Because we know he's had his issues here and the drops kind of come and go.
02:30But when they come, he just seems like he's mentally out of the game.
02:33But we also remember the game where – I mean, it was like a record-setting game
02:38against his old team.
02:39Like, we know – nobody's ever disputed that the talent was there or wasn't.
02:44What we were always reacting to, is he a good guy to have in the locker room?
02:48Well, locker rooms change every year, obviously.
02:51Of course.
02:51And, you know, Judy's been at everything.
02:53He's been a little inconsistent in camp.
02:55He's had days where he's been great, and he's had other bad days.
02:58That's pretty much mirrored his entire career.
03:00But I think you want to start the season with as much weaponry as you can
03:05unless you feel like he's demanding the ball or anything.
03:09And have you ever felt that Judy has been that guy?
03:11No.
03:12Here in Cleveland?
03:13I don't think it's been that.
03:15Demanded the ball.
03:16I don't think he's even, like, in a position to demand the ball
03:18because I think the attention's been on Boston and Concepcion the whole time.
03:22And even Isaiah Bond really could be taking snaps from him this year.
03:25Yeah, but even going back to the last couple of years,
03:27I'm sure he wants the ball.
03:29He's a wide receiver.
03:30He should want the ball.
03:31But has he been –
03:32Who's the highest paid in the room?
03:34It would be him.
03:35Yeah, so –
03:35But has he been real vocal about it?
03:37No, we haven't heard that yet.
03:39That's something that you'd see body language-wise probably first –
03:43that's probably your first read, right?
03:45Now, he has been –
03:46In-game body language.
03:47Now, Owen, he has absolutely had some bad body language in games.
03:50And, you know, him and Shador got into it.
03:52But receivers do get into it with quarterbacks.
03:54I don't think that means you throw them off the team.
03:56So I'm a little mixed on this.
03:58I want things to be –
04:00Yeah, last year we didn't have any other options.
04:01Right.
04:01Right?
04:02No.
04:02I want things to be as easy on Concepcion and Boston as humanly possible.
04:07Like, this is just –
04:09Like, Boston came into camp immediately, and he was high-pointing everything,
04:13and he was boxing guys out.
04:15He was skying up to make grabs.
04:16But then, if you noticed, as we got further along in practice,
04:19like, he couldn't get any separation against Denzel Ward.
04:22Yes.
04:23And that's Denzel Ward.
04:24But he's going to go up against, you know, better guys.
04:26So it's like, you don't want to –
04:28especially if this all is about Shador eventually –
04:31you don't want to make it to where you're just –
04:33it's Shador and rookies.
04:35No.
04:36And second-year Harold Fannin.
04:37No.
04:38Like, that's a dangerous place to be.
04:39Well, and going back to what Ryan Fitzpatrick said,
04:42like, that's part of the reason why Deshaun would start,
04:44is he's the veteran, can throw with better anticipation,
04:46and you got rookies out there.
04:47And maybe that's what Jerry Judy's been quietly thinking
04:50without actually saying it.
04:52I mean, it would go to stand about the truth of the matter of it.
04:55But if the money's already paid, and I got two other –
04:58like, last year, I thought it was pretty easy to bracket Jerry Judy.
05:04Harold Fannin ended up being –
05:05like, I think at first they didn't respect Harold Fannin.
05:08I think as the season went on, they certainly respected Harold Fannin.
05:11And then you had to play a little bit better defense against him.
05:14But you think about last year.
05:16They had so few options, especially after the Quinshawn Judkins injury.
05:19Like, there were so few options to throw to that really anybody
05:22who played quarterback, you were going to be trying to force the football in there
05:25to Jerry Judy any time you threw.
05:27Because you knew that he was the option that you had.
05:29Like, you can't count on Cedric Tillman.
05:30You really couldn't count on a lot of other people.
05:32I know Isaiah Bond slipped past the defense every now and then,
05:35but that's not really conducting an offense.
05:37Jerry Judy helps you go collect first downs,
05:39take time off the clock, manage a football game,
05:42and go win a football game.
05:44See, that's what he's supposed to do.
05:46And if he's the only guy out there, then you can eliminate him.
05:49All right?
05:50Or if he's just out there with Harold Fannin like he was most of the year,
05:53you could definitely help still eliminate him
05:55and still go out there and win a football game.
05:57But now that you have Jerry Judy with these other two,
06:00I understand that Jerry was pretty cantankerous last year
06:03and is not a favorite to a lot of the media out there,
06:06but I am willing to give him a fresh start to see
06:09with Casey Concepcion and Denzel Boston
06:11because I think that two literal threats,
06:14two guys that I think can be very good for this football team
06:17can make Jerry Judy better
06:18because covering three of them,
06:20like it's the one thing that I think we got really going for us
06:23into this year.
06:24I don't know what we're going to have with our offensive line.
06:27Spencer Fano is only one-fifth.
06:28I got to see more of it.
06:29The running backs, all right, it still goes with the offensive line
06:32because you can have,
06:33they got better in game two,
06:35but I can still have a situation where I have 21 carries
06:37and 31 yards like I did a couple of weeks ago
06:40in the opener of the preseason.
06:41So I'm not sure about that.
06:43Defensively, we talked about that,
06:44but let's stick to offense here.
06:45If I have those three guys,
06:47yeah, let me see what it looks like here for a month.
06:49Let me see what it looks like when Shador takes over
06:52with Jerry Judy in this offense,
06:54with those other two,
06:55with Casey Concepcion and Denzel Boston.
06:56I can't give you much of an argument with Cedric Tillman.
06:59I don't know if Cedric Tillman has really learned to run the route tree,
07:03has learned to read the defense as he lines up.
07:06I'm not sure about that.
07:07Maybe Todd can tell you different.
07:09I figured he was getting cut.
07:10I think a lot of people have figured he was getting cut,
07:12but wasn't there an injury designation last week
07:15when he didn't play?
07:17I thought that there was some sort of an injury designation.
07:19So I think that that's something that we can pay attention to
07:22as we get ready for tonight.
07:24But again, just going back to Jerry Judy,
07:25if you were going to talk about cut candidates,
07:28yeah, the more likely one out of the wide receiver room
07:31would definitely be Cedric Tillman
07:32because I'd like to see one more look at Jerry Judy
07:36before I really just wash my hands of the guy.
07:39I understand that there's been some bad drops on social media
07:42at training camp that has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.
07:46And last year was basically a disaster for him,
07:48a lost season for Jerry Judy.
07:50But I didn't have a good wide receiver room there.
07:52I probably had the worst in the NFL.
07:54And if I bring these two rookies in that we're excited about,
07:57I'd like to at least see because I don't know if we're going anywhere.
08:00So let's see if we can get some good play
08:02and let's see if we can salvage this thing with Jerry Judy.
08:04Am I wrong?
08:06Is that such a bad thing?
08:08No, I just, I personally feel like, you know,
08:11they've been burnt so many times by this veteran wide receiver.
08:15And I know they traded for him,
08:16so this is different than, you know,
08:18the Kenny Brits that come in out of free agency.
08:21And they had a good year five years ago.
08:23And then they come in and become a total locker room cancer.
08:27Yeah.
08:28You know, I just, when you have,
08:31when you have two bright rays of hope out there on the edges.
08:35Absolutely.
08:36I get a little worried about that.
08:37But you're right.
08:39Jerry hasn't shown me anything this season
08:40that says he'd be that guy that would shake it up.
08:43Well, you're still going to run into trouble
08:44because you got three guys there that,
08:46well, you got two guys that we're really excited about.
08:48One guy we're trying to salvage in Jerry Judy, right?
08:50If you deal with any sort of a pass rush,
08:52I just mentioned that it's a,
08:53it's going to be a huge question mark going into week one
08:56about how this offensive line is going to perform.
08:58And yeah, they'll probably, if they stay healthy,
09:00they'll probably perform better as the season goes on.
09:02But I can only go with what I'm about to see right now.
09:05If you have a pass rush, it's going to speed up the clock.
09:08It's going to make any quarterback back there.
09:09And you don't have the best quarterback room in the NFL by any means.
09:12It's probably going to make that situation worse.
09:14And you probably will force turnovers
09:16because they're going to hurry themselves up.
09:18But if Denzel Boston and Casey Concepcion and Jerry Judy are open,
09:24yeah, they're going to be frustrated,
09:24but we're going to see that in the all 22.
09:27And then we can just go, okay,
09:29we got to do better on the offensive line.
09:30We got to do better at the quarterback position.
09:32And then we can move on.
09:35I don't think it's as cut and dry as Jerry Judy really likes,
09:38likes Deshaun Watson and I hate Deshaun Watson.
09:41So Jerry Judy's got to go.
09:42No, I don't think it needs to be that way.
09:44It doesn't need to be as cut and dry as Jerry Judy's been a disappointment.
09:47He is, but I still would like to see a little bit more with these two rookies beside him.
