00:15You know, I think that you're still seeing in my mind that the referees are officiating the game,
00:20not based on how the rules are written in the rulebook, but the names on the front and the back
00:24of the jerseys.
00:25You know, I've still seen LeBron James take four or five and six steps to the basket and dunk the
00:31ball.
00:31And, you know, there's no traveling called.
00:33So there's definitely a situation where, you know, some of the star players are still getting preferential treatment.
00:40And, you know, some of the other players are not.
00:42And it's a matter of refereeing the names on the jerseys rather than the rules and enforcing them as they're
00:47written in the rulebook.
00:49Tim, do you think that gambling is good for sports today and where it is?
00:54I mean, the National Football League, DraftKings, FanDuel, what have you,
00:59all of these are now business partners of the National Football League and the NBA.
01:04Do you think it's good or do you think it's a detriment to these leagues?
01:08I think it's a detriment because when you talk about these prop bets,
01:12I think they have to get them, you know, off the board to where these players aren't tempted to, you
01:17know,
01:17come up with an injury or not get 10 rebounds because that's what the over-under is for them
01:24or score a certain amount of points because, you know, they're telling their buddy that they're not going to do
01:29it that night
01:29so that their buddy can go bet $100,000 and collect the money.
01:33I think the prop bets are what's really detrimental and hurtful to these leagues,
01:37not so much the point spread because I don't really think that you're going to get some of these players
01:42to go out and fix a game based on the point spread.
01:45But I think you're always going to have the temptation of them, you know, being in a room with their
01:49buddies,
01:50you know, discussing games and saying, hey, you know what?
01:54I'm not going to get 10 rebounds today.
01:56Take the under or, you know, I'm going to go extra home.
02:00Michael Jordan at times would tell his buddies that, you know, I'm going to score 50 points tonight.
02:05You watch.
02:05And they knew, you know, that he was going to go out and give an extra effort
02:08and he was not going to come out of the game even if the team was, you know, winning by
02:1220.
02:12At the end, like we see them all do, he was going to wait until he scored 50 points
02:16because that's what he told his buddies he was going to do that day.
02:20Were you ever suspicious of an NBA player?
02:23There was just a recent case a year ago with gambling, with NBA players,
02:28and even there was even with Chauncey Billups being involved in it.
02:31He had basketball coach of the Portland Trailblazers.
02:34Were you ever suspicious of a player point shaving in an NBA game?
02:40Not a player, but I was suspicious of a coach one time because it was, you know,
02:44very little time left on the clock.
02:47And I knew that the point spread in that game was 10 or 11 points.
02:52And he was playing his team so hard.
02:55He was really bitching about every little call with like 20 seconds left.
02:59And when I looked at the final score and calculated the point spread, I said to myself,
03:05something's off there because why was he so adamant that, you know, and coaching so hard
03:10when there was a, you know, he had lost and he was down by 10.
03:14And I think that, you know, it was just very strange that what he was doing with the coaching so
03:20hard
03:20when it really didn't matter there at the end, when most teams just sit back,
03:24take their stars out and let the clock run out.
03:27What do you think of gaming in all sports today, especially in the college end?
03:32There was a kid by the name of Brandon Sorsby who had placed over 9,000 bets
03:36when he was at Indiana Cincinnati and it totaled roughly around $75,000.
03:42And he was told that he could not play in college football any longer.
03:46College kids gambling and the college game.
03:49Is that a problem for you, Tim?
03:52Yeah, for sure.
03:53I don't think that they're really educating these student athletes on the pitfalls of what they're supposed to do and
03:59not do.
04:00I've spoken at many colleges over the years about, you know, this topic and how you really need to stay
04:06away from certain situations,
04:08who you're hanging out with and what you're doing,
04:10and know that you could, you know, cost yourself a scholarship or your ability to play at the college level
04:17if you're placing bets.
04:18And I think you really need to put more education to these student athletes so they know the pitfalls of
04:23what they're supposed to do and not do.
04:26Absolutely great.
04:27I mean, so you go to colleges and you educate kids, especially with the amount of money that's being generated
04:33with NIL.
04:33And they've got all these resources now, Tim, where they can go and just place these bets, $5,000 bets,
04:39$7,000 bets.
04:41And like you said, back in the day, there was a thing called, you know, the yellow sheet.
04:46And, you know, we were just making $5 bets back in the day.
04:50These guys today are making $5,000 bets.
