00:03And even in this recent finals here,
00:05how much pressure is on NBA referees to get these games into a series where it
00:11goes six and seven when you're out there, especially in a,
00:14in a playoff series,
00:15how much pressure comes on you guys by the commissioner,
00:19say like Adam Silver or back in the day, David Stern.
00:22You know, like we discussed before, you know,
00:25there's morning meetings where they show you plays of tapes, you know,
00:29from the previous games that went on and they're grading you,
00:33they're grading those three referees that night.
00:35So whatever they're telling you to call in that morning meeting,
00:37you're going to go out and do it.
00:39And they're always showing you plays that they say they want called that the
00:42other three officials missed in previous games.
00:45And those plays are always going against the team that's up in the series and
00:49for the team that's down in the series, which really changes, you know,
00:53the landscape of what goes on because you're looking for certain things and
00:56it's putting a team on advantage and a disadvantage.
00:58And that's how they go out and they get these games to go, you know,
01:02five, six,
01:03and seven games without telling the referees to go out and fix them.
01:06They're just telling them what to concentrate on because we're grading you
01:10tonight.
01:10You want a good grade because you want to get more games and advance into the
01:14next round and make a heck of a lot more money.
01:16So you're going to do whatever they tell you to do.
01:18And it just manipulates the series into going, you know, further four, five,
01:24six, seven games where they want it and create a lot more revenue for the
01:29owners and the league.

01:32So again, it's not so much that they're telling these guys, Hey,
01:36don't call this or don't call that.
01:37What they're telling people is this, you see this play here.
01:41This is a little too tight.
01:42So you're going to back off that play and it's basically setting the deck,
01:46isn't it?
01:47You're not telling anybody to throw anything, but you're setting the deck.
01:52Absolutely.
01:52You are because like I said, as an official,
01:55if you're in the first round, you want to get to the second round.
01:58You're in the second round.
01:59You want to get to the third round.
02:00You're in the third round.
02:01You want to be a finals ref and you're going to go out and do whatever they
02:04tell you to do in those morning meetings.
02:06So you get a high grade and you have the possibility of advancing into the next
02:10round and making a heck of a lot more money than if you didn't.
02:13So if they're telling you to concentrate on certain plays and call them,
02:17you're going to do it.
02:18And again, it's,
02:19it's a situation where they're,
02:21they're putting the home team that's up in the series at a disadvantage and
02:25the away team that needs a couple of wins add an advantage to the series
02:28goes further.
