00:00It's been a day of flooding in New York and Philadelphia, South Jersey, with storms targeting the Northeast.
00:05Yeah, this video from Staten Island, it's been flash flood warnings at times here, and I mean, you can see
00:11why, not a good situation there.
00:13No, way too much rain, and some areas in southern New Jersey have picked up upwards of 6 to 7
00:18inches of rain right now.
00:21Incredible rainfall there for some.
00:23Yeah, we're going to show you the latest on radar and some of those storm reports, what things look like
00:29over the last hour here.
00:30So it's the same problems that we've been tracking.
00:32Some severe thunderstorm warnings, so wind, even some hail, has been a problem.
00:36It's mainly flash flooding, but you might be noticing some of the red polygons popping up.
00:41We have had those tornado warnings as well, so stay weather aware.
00:45All types of severe weather possible, even through the overnight hours, though flash flooding is certainly the biggest problem.
00:51So let's start off with our storm reports this time.
00:54I've kind of been alternating back and forth, and you know what, we'll start with New York this time, or
01:00the New York area overall, when we look at these storm reports.
01:04You can see flash flooding certainly dominating, but we have some wind and hail mixed in as well.
01:09And I'm going to zoom in even more, because there are just so many flash flood reports, and I want
01:12to kind of dive into them a little bit more closely here.
01:15So car stuck in flooding at Route 17 near Industrial Avenue.
01:19This is in Bergen County, New Jersey, around 2 p.m. Eastern today.
01:24So it's been several rounds.
01:26Even early afternoon, the problem started, and we're just seeing the totals add up, add up, add up.
01:32It's not heavy rain all at once causing the problems, but round after round.
01:37Further south, several vehicles stuck in a few feet of water.
01:41This is where we start having water rescues necessary, which is not the ideal situation.
01:45But it's a sign I look for in the storm reports of increasing severity of the flash flooding.
01:51We start to see flooding on roads, roads closed, vehicles stranded, which sometimes that leads to the road closures.
01:57But then once we get to especially buildings being impacted, it's incredibly dangerous.
02:00I mean, look at in New Jersey earlier today, the scenes there.
02:05Incredibly dangerous situation that if you don't have to be out on the roads, it is really just best to
02:09stay home for right now.
02:11Let's dive into some more of these storm reports.
02:13There are a few where I have seen buildings impacted.
02:16When there's so many storm reports like this, it's kind of hard to remember exactly where specific reports are necessarily
02:22that I might have seen, you know, quick glance.
02:25But a lot of these talking about street flooding.
02:28So just going to show that a lot of areas are seeing that kind of impact, which just supports what
02:33I was saying about best to not be out on the roads if you don't have to be.
02:36Let's go further south.
02:38South of Philadelphia is the other kind of problem spot.
02:41Thankfully, haven't had a lot of issues into Philadelphia itself, though in Camden County, New Jersey, we do have flooding
02:47on U.S. 30.
02:48Both directions closed and all lanes in both directions closed because of this flooded residents unable to get out on
02:57Honeysuckle Avenue.
02:58This is what I was thinking of Camden County, New Jersey, 315 Eastern is when this came in.
03:03So just seeing the severity of the flash flooding really increase.
03:06Now, before we switch gears here, I do want to switch to one of the local radar sites here.
03:13We'll go to Dover, Delaware.
03:14We'll take a look at some of the precipitation totals, just give you an idea of why we're in these
03:18situations that we're in.
03:19So the reports that we were just looking at south of Philadelphia, let's look at some of the rainfall totals
03:23here.
03:23So 5.9, close to six inches around Pittman in the last six hours here, 5.2, a little further
03:29south, 5.0, well, that's over water.
03:32So maybe not the best spot to pick there.
03:343.9 inches of rainfall coming in.
03:37Let me ask these out, get over land here.
03:40There we go, 4.1 inches.
03:42You get the point, though.
03:43A lot of rainfall over the last couple of hours.
03:45In a lot of cases, one, two plus of these inches came down in just an hour.
03:50Now, quickly, before we switch gears to Dolly, I do want to show you the watches that are out because
03:56we have several severe thunderstorm watches that are remaining in place until 8, 9, 10 p.m. Eastern, depending on
04:03which polygon you're in.
04:04So from north of Syracuse all the way down to Alexandria and over, including New York City, if you're in
04:09any of those areas, take a look.
04:11Those are the watches that you need to be aware of how long really you should be staying weather aware.
