00:01After more than six years living in California, the Sussexes are preparing to make Britain
00:06their family base again.
00:08The reason for the move has not been fully explained, but their children are expected
00:12to start at British schools, while Harry has maintained strong links with charities and
00:17the Invictus Games here.
00:18They will return as private citizens rather than working royals.
00:22The public reaction has been mixed.
00:24A YouGov survey of more than 5,800 adults found 21% supported the return, while 33%
00:31opposed it, and 45% said they were undecided.
00:36Older people were more likely to oppose the move, with almost half of those aged over 65
00:41saying the couple should not return.
00:44I'm sure it would be nice for all the British people, right, and to have the family all
00:47together.
00:47I'm sure that they will love that.
00:49It's nothing like being home.
00:51For us Americans, not as big of a deal to us, but we love the documentary on Netflix,
00:56like a royal love story.
00:58We always love that stuff.
00:59It's nice that it's coming home, that the kids are going to see their grandparents and
01:03brothers.
01:04Yeah, happy to have them home.
01:06I think it's a good thing.
01:08I think it should really start seeing his brother again and his sister-in-law.
01:11Good luck.
01:12Good luck.
01:12Good luck.
01:13Good luck.
01:13Good luck.
01:13Good luck.
01:15I think that it's perfect because I love this London, really more than many other countries.
01:23So I think it's because of the sons.
01:27So in Mexico we have this world like say that one is whoever, but the children.
01:34So it means that maybe this is the main reason.
01:37They want to be in a different country where they can grow up a little bit safer, a little
01:46bit happier.
01:47I don't know, but I think so.
01:49The move marks a major change after a period of sustained distance from royal life.
01:53Harry and Meghan stepped back as working royals in 2020, moving to the US after initially leaving
01:59Britain.
02:00They later spoke publicly about their experiences inside the royal family, including their interview
02:05with Oprah Winfrey, the documentary series about their lives, and Harry's memoir.
02:10Those accounts included serious allegations about members of the royal family, while the Sussexes
02:15said they had experienced a lack of support and intense media pressure.
02:19The couple have continued to make occasional visits to Britain, including for major royal
02:23occasions and Harry's charitable work.
02:26For now 10 years, every day for 10 years, I have been bullied and attacked.
02:31And I was the most trolled person in the entire world.
02:33Man, no woman.
02:35And I'm still here.
02:36That billion dollar industry that is completely anchored and predicated on cruelty to get clicks,
02:44that's not going to change.
02:46So you have to be stronger than that.
02:48Security remains one of the biggest unanswered questions.
02:52When Harry stopped being a working royal, he lost his automatic entitlement to publicly funded
02:56police protection.
02:58He subsequently challenged the decision, arguing that his security should be reassessed.
03:03He lost that legal battle, with protection continuing to be determined according to the
03:07level of risk.
03:08The latest position is that there is no confirmed taxpayer-funded security package for the Sussexes'
03:14return.
03:15If the state decides police protection is necessary, that would be publicly funded.
03:19Private security arranged by the couple would be their responsibility to fund, but private
03:24guards cannot simply replace the powers of armed police.
03:27Well, this is a private matter.
03:30It's a matter for Harry and for Meghan, and we wish them well in the moves that they're
03:35making.
03:36There has already been a recent glimpse of what a return could look like.
03:39In July, Harry came to Britain for events marking one year until the 2027 Invictus Games.
03:45He took part in events and delivered a speech, underlining his continuing connection with
03:50the country through the Games.
03:52Harry, Meghan and their children also made a private visit and reunited with the King in
03:57a meeting that marked a rare opportunity for the monarch to spend time with his grandchildren.
04:01The visits do not mean the Sussexes are returning to royal duties.
04:05The King is understood to remain firm that they will not become working royals again.
04:09Thank you for being such supporters to the Invictus community.
04:13Every one of you is part of this movement, and it wouldn't be what it is without you.
04:19Because Invictus has never just been about belonging to a team.
04:22It's about belonging to each other.
04:25We are a family.
04:27One that I am so proud and so honoured to be a part of.
04:31The couple's return has also prompted a more lighthearted reaction.
04:35Their wax figures have been moved into a British-themed area at Madame Tussauds, complete with packed
04:40suitcases and a royal guard.
04:42It's a playful nod to the couple's return to the UK, and a reminder that wherever Harry
04:46and Meghan go, they rarely go unnoticed.
04:49For now, the Sussexes are expected to settle in a private, non-royal home while keeping their
04:54properties in California and Portugal.
04:56Archie and Lilibet are expected to start school, and Harry has the Invictus Games in Britain
05:01to prepare for.
05:02But questions over security, public reaction, and the family's relationship with the wider
05:07royal family are likely to remain a major part of the story as their move across the
05:12Atlantic gets underway.
05:13All right, we'll be here next week.
05:13Bye-bye.
05:14Bye.
