Ford delivered a blunt warning as the Canada-U.S. trade dispute intensifies, signaling that Canada is prepared to respond to American trade pressure and defend its economic interests.

In this video, we break down Doug Ford’s explosive remarks, Donald Trump’s tariff strategy, the latest Canada-U.S. trade tensions, and what the escalating confrontation could mean for businesses, workers and consumers on both sides of the border.

00:00I said, why can't we be best? And we will be best with, well, we'll all work together.
00:06And it's Nevada, that's number one, but we're going to kick their butts too.
00:10I told the governor that in a nice way, and a great governor, by the way.
00:14But we're going to be number one by next year.
00:17Well, first of all, hello, everyone, and it's great to be here.
00:21I just want to thank Minister Lecce, you're doing an incredible job.
00:25Mr. Peary, my colleagues, Franz and Jamie and Jim and Vivian and Mayor, thank you, Paul, for everything you're doing.
00:35It's amazing when we all work together, how we can get things done, as you've heard from all our colleagues.
00:42When we fight, nothing gets done, so hint, hint, guys, just giving you a hint.
00:47Not done, from back row there, Jamie with that big smile on his face.
00:51You're looking good, buddy, at least you're wearing the right color, a blue tie.
00:54I like that blue tie, actually.
00:56And again, I want to thank Sheila and Zach, thank you so much, and the whole team, the entire team
01:02here at Glencore Canada,
01:04for the invitation to come and celebrate, and that's what we're doing.
01:08We're celebrating a milestone with you and with the hard-working men and women here in Sudbury.
01:13I have to tell you, what a job.
01:15I give all the credit to these hard-working miners.
01:18Until people in this city or the GTA or just in major cities, you have no idea how tough mining
01:27is.
01:28My dad told me that many, many years ago.
01:30He goes, one of the toughest jobs ever is being a miner.
01:37President Trump's latest tariffs are taking an aim at workers in sectors like steel, auto manufacturing, forestry, and more.
01:45And we'll have those workers' backs no matter what.
01:49We will not spare a penny.
01:50We're pushing the federal government to cut the red tape and costs that make our business less competitive,
01:57including by eliminating greenhouse gas emission standards for Canadian-made vehicles
02:02and exempting tariff-impacted sectors from federal emissions performance standards,
02:08which together adds hundreds of millions of dollars in the cost for Canadian businesses.
02:14Because at a time when our country is under economic attack,
02:20we can't let ideology stand in the way of protecting workers.
02:24Tariff rate quotas on steel imports need to be dropped to zero
02:28on countries that do not have free trade agreements with Canada
02:33and 12% on countries that do have free trade agreements with Canada
02:40and make sure those countries that have free trade agreements aren't dumping.
02:46I'm not going to get deep into it, but we see a lot of steel.
02:49And I know, Jamie, you understand a lot of steel is being dumped from countries.
02:54They make cheap steel in China, slap a sticker on, made in whatever country,
03:00and they dump it here in Ontario.
03:03And it doesn't help our steel sector.
03:06We need to be directed to workers and businesses hit by President Trump's tariffs.
03:13We need to support them.
03:15But we also need to focus on our plan to protect Ontario for the long term.
03:20To unlock our full potential, we need to speed up approvals,
03:24get shovels in the ground on infrastructure and resource projects,
03:29lower taxes and fees,
03:30and build the most competitive, resilient, and self-reliant economy in the G7.
03:36And yes, when Minister Lecce told me, you know, we're second best in the world,
03:41well, naturally, I said, why can't we be best?
03:45And we will be best.
03:46Well, we'll all work together.
03:49And it's Nevada.
03:50That's number one.
03:51But we're going to kick their butts, too.
03:52I told the governor that in a nice way.
03:55And a great governor, by the way.
03:57But we're going to be number one by next year
03:59because we always look at continuous improvement
04:01amongst all our colleagues in government.
04:04Because we have everything we need right here at home
04:07to protect workers, create jobs, and stand up to President Trump.
04:12That starts with Ontario's world-class mining industry,
04:15which is the heartbeat of the north
04:17and in the engine of our economy.
04:20It contributes more than $14 billion to Ontario's economy every year
04:24and supports 75,000 good-paying jobs.
04:29From advanced manufacturing to artificial intelligence
04:32and military technology,
04:34the mining sector is critical to our plan to protect Ontario.
04:39We're working with First Nations partners,
04:41and thank you, Chief.
04:42I appreciate all your support.
04:44It's greatly appreciated.
04:45We can't do anything, I've always said,
04:47without consultation, collaboration with our First Nations.
04:51To deliver on our plan to build the roads to the Ring of Fire,
04:55earlier this summer,
04:56I was in Webequay First Nations
04:58to break ground on the first of these new roads,
05:02which will be completed five years ahead of schedule.
05:05And just last week,
05:06we marked the start of the work
05:08on the Anaconda and the Painter Lake roads
05:12at the southern end of the road network.
05:15These roads will help unlock $22 billion in economic opportunity
05:20and create 70,000 good-paying jobs
05:23from northern mines to southern manufacturing floors.
05:27Today, we're celebrating another exciting milestone
05:30for our mining sector.
05:31As we mark the first access to nickel ore
05:34at our Craig Mines Unnapping Depth Project,
05:39Glencore's nearly $2 billion investment
05:41in this project
05:43was an investment in Ontario's critical mineral future
05:46and the workers powering it.
05:48Creating nearly 7,000 jobs during construction
05:51and employing over 400 people going forward,
05:54this expansion of Craig Mine
05:57has unlocked a new high-grade nickel deposit
06:00in Glencore's Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations,
06:04an underground mining area that's 2,600 meters deep,
06:09which is the equivalent, as you've heard,
06:11close to five CN towers stacked on top of each other.
06:15This new deposit will provide a significant source of nickel
06:19or beyond 2,040.
06:21Strengthening Ontario's advantage
06:23as a global supplier of high-grade nickel the world needs.
06:27And guess who else needs it?
06:29President Trump needs it desperately.
06:31Despite the challenges we face from south of the border,
06:35I've never been more optimistic about our future
06:38because we have everything we need
06:40to protect Ontario right here at home.
06:43We have the resources, we have the talent,
06:45the knowledge, and the world-class workers
06:48to stand up to any threat
06:50and win any fight.
06:52Once again, I want to thank everyone here
06:54for joining us today.
06:55What a great team effort
06:57from all levels of government.
06:58And I want to give a special thanks
07:00to Glencore again
07:03and their entire team
07:04for taking son a tour of this incredible mine
07:07and for your confidence
07:08and for your confidence
07:09in Ontario's future
07:10as a global critical mineral powerhouse.
07:13Again, thank you
07:14and may God bless the people of Ontario.
07:16Thank you, everyone.
