Kazakhstan’s newly elected unicameral parliament has held its first session under a new Constitution that reshaped the country’s political system. The government has stepped down as required, with a new cabinet set to be formed.

00:00Kazakhstan's newly elected Kurultai has held its first session, marking the start of a new political chapter for the country.
00:07President Kassym-Jumar Tokayev addressed all 145 members of the newly established unicameral parliament, who are elected for five-year
00:15terms.
00:16Five parties are represented in the new parliament.
00:19The ruling ad-led party holds a commanding majority with 110 of the 145 seats.
00:25The remaining seats are shared by Awol, Republica, the Nationwide Social Democratic Party and Aqjol.
00:31One of the first tasks of the new parliament was to elect its chairman.
01:07Once the Kurultai is fully organized, President Tokayev will put forward candidates for vice-president and prime minister.
01:14A new government will then be formed following consultations with lawmakers.
01:18Tokayev will deliver his annual address once the new parliament and government are in place.
