00:00I'm hoping this is only a one-year deal with players that were eligible to play this season,
00:06the fifth-year players, the Daquan Wrights of the world, who, you know, if you look at his
00:12situation, you leave the Browns, you go to Ole Miss or LSU, he averaged 16 yards of catch last
00:19year. He's a talented player. He probably fits in, maybe can improve his draft stock. And I think
00:24where this could have been avoided was five for five took effect on June 23rd. Had the NFL and the
00:30college football said, all right, I don't, I can't, let's say training camp opened on July 27th,
00:36that this is your deadline to decide, do you want to enter the portal or do you want to be
00:42an NFL player? We know we drafted you. I think that would have been the right compromise, but once
00:46they stepped foot on those NFL camps, Bob, that's when it got weird. You know, that's when we're
00:51looking at, wait, what, Browns tight end in the transfer portal? There's enough Browns news going
00:56around right now that we don't need to get into Cleveland too much. But I mean, I, I just, I
01:02don't
01:03know where I sit on that. So I'm going to defer to you guys. I would wonder what you guys
01:06would
01:06have done in that situation, how you feel about it. I mean, yeah, I mean, I was in that exact
01:13position. I came in, I was undrafted. I was on the bubble throughout basically all of camp. And I knew
01:18in my head that there's a chance I might not make the team. And now it's kind of unfair
01:23because I'm older and I'm wiser and I have the power of hindsight, but I would like to
01:27think if a coach came up to me halfway through camp while I'm still with the team and waved
01:32half a million dollars in my face, I'd say no. And it's different because as a 23 year
01:36old, it's hard to say that I'm going to turn that all that money, but I would like to think
01:40while I'm still trying to live out my dream, while I still think I still have a chance
01:44to make an NFL team, to make a 53 man roster and compete for a spot, I just can't find
01:51it
01:52within me to be able to bow out and stop that competition to go back to college for something
01:57that's more stable and basically just for the money. I mean, everyone is supposed to be
02:01working towards an NFL dream and to kind of just go back on that because you feel like
02:06you might not make it. You feel like you can make more money somewhere else. That's just
02:09not really love for the game. So that's where I feel like there's a disconnect. And if I was
02:14an NFL GM, I would blacklist those guys. Like they obviously just don't want to compete.
02:18They don't want to further themselves in their career. They just want to go where it's easy.
02:22So that's, that's why I think it's stupid. It's idiotic. I don't know really how they
02:27can do this and feel good about themselves. Yes, they're getting paid all this money and
02:30that's great, but I, I don't like what it's doing with college football. I don't like what
02:35it's doing with the NFL. It's just a bad situation overall.
02:37So I talked to Adam Schefter about, or I was listening to Adam Schefter talk about this rather,
02:41and you know, he was saying like, these guys can make more money, which I've stated,
02:45they make more money in college than they can in the NFL. I mean, a half million dollar
02:49rookie minimum, you know, you're making a million dollars to go play wherever. Plus you're probably
02:54getting bill like a car room, all the foods you can eat. I mean, what the million dollars
02:59is like, that's, that's the discretionary money, the spending money that you have on top
03:03of that. Um, is it, is the, which is, which is, I don't want to say worse, but like, is
03:11it more of an indictment on the NFL that you can make more money in college? Or is it more
03:15of an indictment on college that you're making more money there than the, in the NFL?
03:20Well, that's always been the part that, that has thrown me off with, with what we're doing
03:24when you, and I love, by the way, I, I watch a lot of preseason football, not to like,
03:29you know, I just enjoy watching those, those players play because, you know, they're fighting
03:34for the roster spots. Is it ugly in spots? Yes. Is it a, a bad football at times? Sure. But
03:41you
03:41know, these are guys trying to make spots at the highest level. And when you see that one
03:45or two guys flash, it's pretty cool. And that's what I'm worried about is like, you know, if you're
03:49in that position of, Hey, I can be doing one or the other and the allure of it. And Bob,
03:55you were
03:55the one that kind of optimized that last week. I was like, yeah, maybe a kid would want to
04:01go get another year of tape and make some money and not have to worry about getting cut. But
04:06to steel's point, these guys are in the hot, that's the highest level of football. And that's
04:10what I can't square is that guys in the college game are making more money in a lot. And theoretically
04:16in a lot of cases, then those day three picks that are fighting to play for the Browns and
04:21the Steelers and the, and the Packers and people can say preseason football is terrible,
04:25but it's not terrible to those guys fighting on the rosters. You saw the Cowboys offensive
04:30lineman speech the other night. How cool was that? I mean, you have moments like that in
04:35the preseason and I don't, you know, I think that was one of those moments where, you know,
04:40you, you know, it means more to them.
