00:00A very convenient time as Sal Capaccio is now set to join us on the West Her Hotline after what
00:07I can only assume was a wildly successful outing for the It's Always Game Day in Buffalo podcast appearance with
00:15your buddy, our buddy, Matt Bovee, out at Signal.
00:18Sal, how did the Southern Tier treat you this afternoon?
00:21It was great. It was great. Great to see some people who came by.
00:24I literally just topped off my car with the 360-a-gallon-per-gas, great gas deals, and we had
00:33some merchandise there, signed merchandise from GSE.
00:36People came by and entered to win, and we gave some stuff away, got some pizza out there, and then
00:40Matt and I revealed our 53-man roster projection.
00:44We only had one difference in the entire roster projection, and honestly, I could go either way on a few
00:51things and even that, but we had one small difference.
00:53So that was it. Otherwise, we were pretty much in lockstep.
00:56I want to guess, Nate, do you want to guess at what the difference is?
00:59I'm going to guess one of you have a different inside linebacker staying.
01:06That is not the area.
01:07Wide receiver.
01:10That is not the area, although I will say both of us could see Trent Shurfield making it, but neither
01:14of us had him,
01:15because my prediction is he won't make it, but then he'll be elevated for a special teams role, you know,
01:21because you can do that,
01:22because he's not a guy you have to risk getting to waivers.
01:25The area we disagreed was he had Greg Gaines.
01:29I had Dwayne Carter.
01:30Now, that said, that's without knowing if they could trade Dwayne Carter.
01:34Maybe they do that.
01:35But I believe because he is subject to waivers and Greg Gaines isn't, it might be a little too risky,
01:41and they don't do that, so they keep him on the roster, and then you maybe try to keep Greg
01:45Gaines around
01:45and say, hey, go on the practice squad.
01:47You know, we'll still have you play roster gymnastics that way.
01:53But at the same time, I could definitely see Greg Gaines making it over Dwayne Carter.
01:57That was the only difference we had.
02:00That's interesting, because I mostly, Nate and I touched on it.
02:05I think we both sort of agreed rather, sort of just easily, like, oh, yeah, he's gone.
02:10He was on the field for, like, the very end of the game, Carter.
02:13And, like, I feel like that could be a clue.
02:16It also could be a clue that they're trying to get him snaps and get him enough exposure
02:21that maybe they can facilitate a trade, like you mentioned here.
02:24But, man, we've talked about it a few different times in the last couple of weeks, Sal.
02:27There are a lot of bodies up there, and with it all being new, like, scheme-wise,
02:33I don't think we exactly know who is squatting where for sure, right?
02:39Agreed.
02:40You know, the other guy that's interesting to me is TJ Sanders.
02:43Like, I just haven't been blown away by his preseason in camp.
02:46Like, is he a guy that maybe they could spin, but he didn't play at all yesterday?
02:49And you could look at that two ways, because they just believe that he's one of your guys
02:53and, you know, do that.
02:54Or are you saving him because you want to not get him hurt and, you know, you look to
02:58move him.
02:58But I just think they have too many guys there, to be honest with you.
03:00Like, I don't know how it's going to shake out.
03:02You have Ed Oliver, who you assume is going to be healthy and able to play.
03:07Then you have, obviously, Dwayne, not Dwayne Carter, Deion Walker, excuse me, Deion Walker.
03:13And then you have Dwayne Carter.
03:15You have TJ Sanders, two guys we talked about.
03:17Landon Jackson has played well.
03:19I think Landon Jackson solidified himself.
03:21And that's the guy that he might have the biggest question mark coming into this whole
03:24thing.
03:24And then, of course, you have Greg Gaines, who they just signed as well.
03:29I mean, and then Zane Durant.
03:30I mean, Zane Durant's going to be on the team, right?
03:31They're not going to move on from him.
03:32They just drafted this kid.
03:34So I just don't know where you kind of eliminate and how you eliminate.
03:38Do you think they'll want to have a spot ready for Fiderian Mathis when his suspension ends?
03:47I don't necessarily, but I think his suspension matters.
03:51And the reason is you are a little thinner now with options over the first few weeks.
03:57If you have Fiderian Mathis on the practice squad, you could obviously elevate him.
04:01He can't play now.
04:02You don't have that luxury.
04:03If somebody gets hurt, you don't have a guy in your building in Fiderian Mathis.
04:07I do not think that Fiderian Mathis would be worthy enough to take a 53-man roster spot
04:13right now.
04:14So I can't say that I think that they would save a spot for him in four weeks.
04:18Sal Capaccio on the West Her hotline.
04:20The Bills and Steelers wrapped up their preseasons last night at Highmark Stadium.
04:25Anything from the game playing time-wise?
04:27We talked, you and I talked, and you even texted me when the game began because we were
04:32talking about Igbenosin and Max Harrison and whether there's any semblance of a
04:37battle there, and Joe Brady all but ended that after the game, talking about Harrison
04:42being their guy, and he's a starting corner and all that.
04:46But those two were the starting corner.
04:48They didn't play long.
04:49I think they were both in the low teens in snap count, I think.
04:53And both had a couple of moments.
04:56Like, Harrison got victimized on that first touchdown.
04:58I didn't like Igbenosin on the second touchdown much at all.
05:02The dive at the player's legs there, I mean, so close to the goal line, it was all but conceding
05:07the touchdown.
05:08I recognize there's a big dude coming his way, but I just, I would have liked a little bit
05:12more there, I guess.
05:15But overall, I think we got our answer on Max Harrison is their other starting boundary
05:20corner.
05:21Yeah, that's right.
05:23And, you know, I've been saying for months, I just never thought that Max Harrison would
05:27lose that job just immediately because they drafted Davidson Igbenosin.
05:30It would take him not playing well and Igbenosin, you know, really kind of smashing that door
05:34down.
05:35I don't think either of those things has necessarily happened.
05:37Now, certainly, Max Harrison's had some tough moments.
05:39I don't think they've been so tough where you say, you just can't play this guy.
05:42And I don't think that Davidson Igbenosin has made it where you just can't keep him off
05:45the field.
05:46So for now, it's the status quo.
05:47But let's remember, what it looks like week one doesn't have to be what it looks like week
05:50four, week 10, or, you know, week 18 of the playoffs.
05:54So that door is always open.
05:55Matt brought up a good point today on the podcast we just did, which is, is that a sneaky
05:59area where they might look for some more help?
06:02Whether that's free agency, even like a Tredavious White is still out there, right?
06:05I mean, I'm just throwing a name out of a guy that's familiar with the organization,
06:08but is that a place where you look at, you want some more help?
06:11I don't think they do that right away.
06:12I think they are going to roll with the young guys they have, not just them.
06:16Of course, you know, can I Walker, I think, and there's a, you know, there's a conversation
06:20about Walker versus Toriano Pride.
06:22I think it's Walker who they keep.
06:25Max Harrison is going to be starting.
06:26It doesn't mean it has to be all season, but they're going to give him every opportunity
06:30to be the starting cornerback on this team.
06:33And look, I mean, through injury, unfortunately, because we know that's just the way this game
06:37works in that position.
06:38Davidson Igbenosin is going to have to play at some point this year.
06:41Yeah, I'm pretty much banking on it.
06:43And, you know, I'll bet they are.
06:46I mean, they used a premium asset to bring him in here.
06:49Yep.
06:50So, yeah.
06:51And the open field tackle he had yesterday early in that game was fantastic.
06:56So I'm hard on him about the play at the goal line.
06:58But he did a great job in the open field on that tackle, something that eluded Hairston
07:03earlier on the Bernard touchdown.
07:05And I don't know how hard you want to be on Hairston whiffing on a tackle.
07:09Obviously, you want a guy to make that play.
07:11But, you know, it's a receiver in space.
07:16And I don't know.
07:16What did you think of that play specifically, Sal?
07:19Yeah, he's got to do a better job making that tackle.
07:23You know, maybe it starts with just a better read of the play.
07:25So you're not in a position where you have to be kind of, you know, not in the correct
07:30spot to bring the guy down.
07:32He has to be a little bit better there.
07:33He has to be a little more contained on that situation.
07:36I think at the end of the day, fans are a little bit, you know, more that the team is
07:43higher on Max Hairston than fans are.
07:45I think because Max Hairston had some struggles last year, he didn't play because of injury,
07:48wasn't available his rookie year.
07:50You know, it matters to fans.
07:52And he's been a little bit boom or bust on some plays.
07:56And then he kind of carries it over.
07:57And then they draft.
07:58They've been hosting with the second round.
08:00That's a high, you know, fans want to see those guys pan out.
08:03Like, why'd you draft him?
08:04You're not going to play him, right?
08:04That kind of thing.
08:06So you're always going to get the maybe benefit of the doubt more for the second round pick
08:10than the guy who's already there, who fans are kind of just waiting to take his job.
08:13But I don't think the team is there yet.
08:15I think the team wants Max Hairston to win that job, be the first round pick that they
08:19drafted.
08:20And I believe they are higher on him than the fan base is.
08:23It's just right now the fan sentiment against Max Hairston is not necessarily favorable.
08:27Let me ask you about linebacker.
08:28That was one of the positions I think maybe I threw at you as maybe one you and Matt differentiated
08:34on.
08:34But like right now, if you were based on the last two preseason games and what you've
08:41watched throughout training camp sale, did Kianta Jenkins do enough to outseed Joe
08:48Andreessen?
08:48Because I think that's what would have had to happen.
08:50I think Joe has earned that position, especially the way that he's played on special teams and
08:54how important he is to special teams.
08:55But I would be lying to you if I said that Kianta Jenkins didn't impress this summer.
09:02He's been really good.
09:04I have them both making it.
09:06Matt has them both making it.
09:07It's a simple equation for random being.
09:09It's a simple math equation.
09:11Does he want to keep four or five at the position?
09:14We know that it's going to be Bernard, Caleb, El-Armzor, and Doreen Williams.
09:18If he wants to keep five, then we know that both Andreessen and Kianta Jenkins make it.
09:23If it's four, there's a decision to make.
09:25What does Kianta Jenkins have in his favor?
09:27He's been really flashing, making some wild plays.
09:30He had that sack.
09:30He's been here in the organization for a couple of years.
09:33He can certainly play special teams.
09:34What does Joe Andreessen have in his favor?
09:36He was the second leading tacker in the NFL in special teams last year.
09:40He also can play Mike and Will.
09:42He's done that this preseason.
09:43They really like that about him, of course.
09:46They're both young players.
09:48They're both subject to waivers.
09:49This is where I think these two guys, in whatever way you want to slice it, are actually the guys
09:56maybe competing with Trent Shurfield here.
09:58Because you can keep both of them.
10:01If you release either of them, they have to go through waivers.
10:03Trent Shurfield doesn't.
10:04So maybe it's not a one-for-one linebacker wide receiver.
10:09It's simply a who are we keeping on special teams?
10:12How can we get them through?
10:13And you don't have to look at the necessary numbers.
10:15One of them, we know they're going to keep at least, I would say, four inside linebackers.
10:18But the question is five, but it doesn't have to be about the number there.
10:21It just might have to be, do you want them kept for special teams, or where else on the roster
10:25are you keeping that guy?
10:26And like a Trent Shurfield comes into play, a Sam Franklin comes into play, a guy like that.
10:31I have them both saying, now, that said, we don't know if Joe Andreessen is healthy enough that, you know,
10:36we're assuming that.
10:38We didn't play last night.
10:39He didn't practice this week.
10:40I need to see and know that Joe Andreessen is healthy enough that he's not a candidate to necessarily go
10:45on injured reserve.
10:46As I sit here today, I don't think that's the case, but we just don't know that.
10:50You know, while we're on linebacker, it sort of strikes me, and you guys definitely helped me out here.
10:56I mean, I saw most of the other two preseason games, but last night was the one that I was
11:02able to, like, really sit in front of my TV and watch, whereas the others were a little, I was
11:08kind of in and out.
11:09I know what a great story Caleb Elarmzor has been almost since he was drafted.
11:14And as soon as, like, minicamp started, it was like, boy, they got this guy.
11:19He might start.
11:20He's really good.
11:22Did he impress in the games?
11:24Not that that has to be, like, the be-all and end-all, but I just don't feel like I
11:28saw much of any, no real flash at all from him.
11:34Not that I need that from one of my inside linebackers, but I guess I'm just saying I never really
11:39noticed him in the games.
11:41I like that point, because I think in the Carolina game, he might have done a couple things where, like,
11:46okay, you know, he looked like he could handle it if I remember correctly, but I agree with you.
11:50It wasn't like these flash, flash plays he made, which is why, on the podcast a little while ago, I
11:55said to Matt, I asked Matt, I said, how do you think they line up week one?
11:59Because there's two separate conversations about these top three.
12:02Now, let's take Andreessen and Jenkins out of the equation.
12:04Now you're talking about the other three.
12:05There's two parts of this equation.
12:07Who are the two starters, and what spots do they line up in?
12:10Because they can all do everything.
12:12Now, I'm pretty sure Dorian Williams is only going to be the will.
12:15He's not going to be the mic, okay?
12:17If he starts, he's going to be the will.
12:19Then who is the mic?
12:20I think that if in that case, it would be Terrell Bernard.
12:24I don't think you're going to – Terrell Bernard's going to start.
12:28I'm not sure he's going to start at the mic, though.
12:30I could see a scenario where Terrell Bernard's the will and Caleb Elarmzor is the mic.
12:35And that might be, to your point, Bulldog, about the flash plays, like they just – they might want to
12:40free up Terrell Bernard a little bit more at that position where you're going to have a little more freedom
12:44to move around than the mic linebacker will to be able to do those things.
12:48Maybe Caleb Elarmzor is more suited to play a little bit more of the traditional middle linebacker role where you're
12:54not doing that as much.
12:55My prediction is, as of right now, it's Terrell Bernard at the mic, Dorian Williams at the will, but I
13:02think that is very fluid.
13:04Let me ask you about the outside linebacker slash edge room sale.
13:09Assuming five is your number there, Javon Solomon, I feel, just based on how good he is – Bulldog and
13:16I talked about it earlier – like he's going to play in your core four special teams.
13:20But I also think this defense and the scheme in particular is just tailor-made to his game and what
13:26he was in college and coming out of college.
13:29I think he was – I don't believe he dressed yesterday either.
13:32He would probably indicate he's safe there.
13:34But how hard is that decision going to be, noting that Mike Dana, I thought, played a really – I
13:38mean, he flashed.
13:39He had numbers and sacks in this preseason.
13:41But I think he had a bigger hill to climb to get over Solomon than maybe originally we all thought.
13:49Agreed.
13:50I like Mike Dana.
13:52Some fillets he made.
13:53He had those two sacks in the Carolina game.
13:55But I just don't – I just don't know if you have room to them.
13:57You're not going to keep six.
13:59I can't see that.
14:00Now, you want to talk about trade candidates, maybe that's where that comes from.
14:03Maybe Javon Solomon is a guy that you look to deal.
14:06Matt was actually bringing – he thought that Andre Jones Jr. might be challenging Javon Solomon.
14:11Andre Jones Jr. looks good.
14:13I mean, I think all – I don't think you're trading Mike Dana.
14:17I mean, he's probably a guy that he's either on the team or he's off.
14:21And at this point, he's probably on the outside looking in.
14:23And it's funny, guys, I did a Kansas City radio spot today.
14:26And the host in Kansas City said to me, hey, I saw a roster projection where Mike Dana's not making
14:31the team.
14:32That means he's coming back to Kansas City, I would assume.
14:33That's like – that was the first thing that he thought of right there, right?
14:37And I'm like, yeah, I mean, maybe.
14:38I guess so.
14:39You know what that tells me, though?
14:41Mike Dana is rosterable in this league.
14:43And the Bills have probably seven – maybe eight rosterable outside guys.
14:48I just think that whole group, edge and interior, on the defensive line,
14:53you have guys that Brandon Bean is probably calling around and saying,
14:58I have too many numbers here.
15:00Can I get something for somebody here?
15:02And I don't know who that is, though.
15:03It might just be, like, whatever you can get from one guy.
15:06And not to say one guy is looking to deal, but maybe he can get something for somebody
15:09and not another, and it winds up happening that way.
15:11I know we're kind of jumping around here around the defense
15:14and talked about corner already.
15:17But as far as safety goes, Sal, I know we were both very excited about Jalen Kilgore
15:24after the draft and into free agency.
15:28And most of the projections – obviously, I was working,
15:31so I didn't listen to your 53-man roster projection with Matt.
15:36I'm sure Kilgore makes it.
15:37But it feels to me like he might be a guy that's not active on game days at this point.
15:43I agree with you.
15:44We actually did that exercise at the very end.
15:46I said, all right, we have our 53.
15:47Let's pick five guys who are not dressing.
15:50You know, aside from elevations gives you seven or whatever.
15:53Let's pick five guys who aren't dressing.
15:54Both of us had Jalen Kilgore as a guy not getting a jersey on game day.
15:57And I just don't know where he fits right now.
15:59He's got too much of a log jam in front of him.
16:02And if he's going – he is a safety, but that's where he plays.
16:06But he's more of a box safety, a nickel safety, right?
16:08He's not taking the place of C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
16:10If C.J. Gardner-Johnson is injured, I know people hate hearing this.
16:14DeMar Hamlin is the guy that's going in for him.
16:16I mean, he's been the number three safety all camp long.
16:20That's just the position he's been playing.
16:22Now, if Cole Bishop is injured or if for some reason he can't play,
16:26then that's where you get a little bit more of a Jalen Kilgore possibility
16:29because he's going to be more down in the box,
16:32probably not as much of a ball hawk playing center field.
16:35So he has this niche I think you want him to play.
16:38But, guys, the guy that's throwing a wrench in this is Jordan Hancock.
16:41Jordan Hancock has had an incredible ascension here.
16:43He is the backup nickel to D. Alford, but he has safety flexibility.
16:48Now, he is much more Cole Bishop and Jalen Kilgore than he is C.J. Gardner-Johnson,
16:52but that means that Jalen Kilgore probably has a little bit too much ahead of him
16:57to give him a game-day jersey.
17:00And did you end up with Geno Stone making it or not?
17:02I'm assuming no.
17:03I do not. I do not.
17:05I know some of my colleagues have him on the team.
17:09I just don't see where you get him.
17:10The only way I can see that happening is if they decide that they don't need Sam Franklin.
17:15And that's possible. It's certainly possible.
17:17Sam Franklin's not going to play safety for this team.
17:20He plays preseason safety. That's what he does.
17:21He plays safety in the preseason.
17:23Once that happens, he doesn't play safety anymore.
17:26If you went to Jeff Rogers, the Bills' special teams coordinator,
17:29and you said outside the actual specialists,
17:32if I just could give you one guy and he doesn't do anything other than play for you
17:35on special teams, who is it?
17:36He might choose Sam Franklin.
17:37I mean, that's how much they think of him in that role.
17:40Flipping over to the other side of the ball,
17:42Skyler Bell felt like maybe the story on offense,
17:44maybe the story in this game for the Bills.
17:47Sal, he had been coming off a groin injury,
17:50didn't play in either of the first two preseason games,
17:54but seemed to kind of have the passing game running through him in this game.
17:59Ten targets, seven catches, the big end-around touchdown.
18:02It was quite a debut for the fourth-round rookie.
18:06Yeah, no doubt.
18:07He checked a lot of boxes.
18:09First, you had to see him get on the field, be healthy.
18:12Box checked right there.
18:13Then you had to see him catch the ball, you know, run some routes, get open.
18:16He did that.
18:17Then you had to see him with the ball in his hands.
18:19Well, he did that, not only after he caught the ball,
18:21but gets that end-around and he runs it to the house, right?
18:24Ten targets, seven catches, leads the team receiving,
18:27leads the team rushing, actually.
18:29Has over, what, 70 yards, I think, on the day, whatever it was.
18:32I mean, he just showed that he can step on the field and play in an NFL offense
18:39and in a Buffalo Bills offense, which right now is very important
18:42because we do not know the status of Khalil Shakir and or Keon Coleman.
18:46Now, Coleman didn't have the boot on before the game started, so that's good news.
18:50I'm going to assume both are going to be able to play in the opener.
18:54But if for some reason Keon Coleman and or Khalil Shakir are not available
18:59for the opener against the Houston Texans,
19:02you have now a player in Skylar Bell who you are very comfortable with, I think,
19:08just stepping on the field and fitting into a role.
19:10And even if both those guys are healthy,
19:14Skylar Bell is your fifth wide receiver after what we saw.
19:17I mean, I just think that makes your wide receiver group look a heck of a lot better
19:21than what we've seen over the last several years that we've talked about.
19:24Yeah, I really liked Pettis last night, too.
19:26I mean, I know it's the game-winning play,
19:28but did you check out the move he put on his man on that two-point conversion play?
19:34I mean, he sold inside so hard and spun out of it.
19:38I thought it was just an excellent route.
19:40I mean, I know he's not cracking the top five or six on this team,
19:44but that's a practice squad candidate for sure to me.
19:47Yeah, I mean, that's a veteran, you know, going against a young guy probably.
19:51I don't even know who he was going against necessarily,
19:52but my guess is, you know, a guy that's, you know,
19:54he had that in his back pocket waiting for it, right?
19:58And like, okay, I'm going to beat him here.
19:59And good job by Shane Bouchelle, by the way, you know, right there to hang in there
20:02and find him.
20:03I thought it was Shane Bouchelle.
20:04You know what I say?
20:05I don't know, Bulldog, we've ever talked about Shane Bouchelle
20:07without me using the word tough.
20:09I mean, he's just tough, right?
20:10That's what he is.
20:11And he showed it last night again.
20:12And, you know, he hung in there.
20:13He throws that pass.
20:14Baddest catches it.
20:15But I agree with you that, you know, the question at wide receiver,
20:18I think Jamori Macklin is like the perfect young wide receiver on the practice
20:21squad, right?
20:21And he's probably going to be on that.
20:23So Jamori Macklin makes it there.
20:24You probably keep a few guys on the practice squad.
20:26Maybe keep Trent Shurfield because then you can elevate him for special teams.
20:29And a lot of times the Bills and other teams like to have that one veteran,
20:33the guy that's been around the league a little bit.
20:34And Dante Pettis has come in and he's done a good job.
20:36So I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case with him.
20:38I feel like Dante Pettis is this year's Andy Isabella, right?
20:42Like just a veteran guy that like, okay,
20:45Hey, you know, he's not, he's not, he's not a plan, but you know,
20:48he could play and we might, you know, feel like we can trust him.
20:53I know Gosnell seems a little bit maybe like that too.
20:56We'll see.
20:56You're not going to keep like a ton of receivers.
20:58Do you think McCall Hardman played his way off?
21:00I feel like he did.
21:02It's going to be tough to, you're not going to keep him.
21:05I can't see him on the 53.
21:07I mean, the biggest, the biggest question,
21:09I know some people is not as important necessarily might be who the punt returner
21:12is on this team.
21:13And I, I just, I think Nicole Hardman,
21:15to answer your question is probably not played his way onto the roster.
21:18At least maybe not played his way off,
21:19but not played his way onto the roster.
21:20Cause I don't know if he had it, if he was on it to begin with,
21:22I mean, the drops obviously are an issue at wide receiver.
21:25And you, you, you, yeah, you'd have to,
21:27you'd have to keep him as an extra guy.
21:30If you're going to keep him as a punt returners,
21:32I don't know if he's going to really get much time at wide receiver outside of
21:34injury.
21:35And then obviously what happened last night with Ray Davis,
21:37you just can't have that.
21:38Now Ray Davis has not as much, you know,
21:42you know, built up in the trust department when it comes to that.
21:46So when you have a play like last night,
21:48you got to think long and hard of your brain and mean about what you're going
21:50to do back there,
21:51because that's the difference between winning and losing a football game.
21:54What happened last night and you can't have that.
21:57And Ray Davis hasn't done it since high school.
21:59He was good last week in Cleveland, had that 12 yard return,
22:01but all it takes is that one mistake, that one miss,
22:04that one muff like he had last night.
22:06And you have to reevaluate.
22:07And the question is,
22:09is the bills punt returner week one on their roster right now?
22:13And if he's not, you're gonna have to create a spot for him.
22:16So that's going to be tough to do.
22:17If he is, who is it?
22:19And honestly, it might be close to cure guys until they find somebody.
22:23They, that might be their best option or, or Keon Coleman.
22:26Keon Coleman can do it.
22:27I mean, he's been injured here, just like Khalil.
22:29I don't know how much you necessarily would trust him over Khalil,
22:33but he's done it.
22:34He did in the regular season last year for the bills.
22:35I don't know if you can have Ray Davis do it.
22:39Trust is interesting with Coleman.
22:40Yeah.
22:40I feel a little interesting buzzword for him.
22:43But like he, he, to me, I would prefer he do it over Shakir.
22:47Shakir matters way more to their offense right now than Coleman does.
22:52I say that Coleman can't alter that in some way.
22:54And maybe he's had a good enough summer that he's earned some trust,
22:57but boy, I don't know.
22:59I feel like the, you know, it's one 10 on Sunday at the opener and the Texans are, are, are,
23:07are back to punt.
23:08And I'm going to be like, Oh man, is that Keon Coleman back there?
23:12Like, I just feel like I'm going to have a lump in my throat.
23:13And I will say too, Sal, like, I know it sounds funny to say like, well,
23:17Keon Coleman's trust, trust issues have come off the field.
23:21I think that matters sometimes more to coaches than it does.
23:25Like him muffing a punt or something is,
23:27can they trust that he's going to be in the right position at the right time and make the right
23:32decision,
23:32a fair catcher, letting a ball go.
23:34I don't want to dismiss the trust issues with Coleman really largely being off field ones.
23:41You're a hundred percent right.
23:42You guys have both been around sports to know enough how organizations and coaches think,
23:46which is if I can't trust you off the field, how can I trust you on the field?
23:49If you're not going to make the proper decisions in, you know, in organizationally in life,
23:55maturity wise, then when you get on the field, how do I know you're going to make the proper decisions?
24:00And look, that's not, whatever happened last year doesn't have to mean indictment on this year, right?
24:04Maybe Keon Coleman's done everything right to this point.
24:06Maybe he's made every single right decision.
24:07He's been on time for every meeting, but from the outside looking in,
24:11we know what has happened over the last two years and that absolutely has to come into play.
24:16So I just wonder what they do.
24:18I mean, Hey, maybe they do put Ray Davis back there and say, look, you know, we, we, we,
24:22we've seen enough of him in camp.
24:23We're going to bank on him being able to do it.
24:26Um, you know, he, he, he, he did enough good things throughout camp and preseason at that
24:33position where we're going to trust him.
24:35But man, I, I remember a couple of years ago and I don't remember who it was back there.
24:40In fact, I think it was to Corey couch.
24:42Maybe it was one of the guys, but they had a couple of different, um, DBs that were returning
24:47punts.
24:47I can't remember the exact names and they just didn't have a guy.
24:50Like at the, I remember at the end of the preseason, I mean, in fact, I think somebody
24:53muffed it too at the end of the preseason, they're like, we're all like, well, I don't
24:57know who they're going to do.
24:58And what do they do?
24:58They went out and they traded for Brandon Codrington who, by the way, plays for the
25:02Texans and is in a battle himself for his job.
25:06But, uh, so ironically, all right.
25:10So Sunday, six o'clock is the, uh, cut down deadline.
25:13Is that right?
25:14That's right.
25:15Now they can do it at any point here.
25:17Um, they can, they can start cutting guys tonight, tomorrow.
25:20I wouldn't be surprised if you start hearing about that tomorrow, but they have to be
25:23down to 53 by Sunday at 6 p.m.
25:26And even if they do cut like a guy tomorrow, he doesn't go to waivers, I believe until
25:31Sunday at six.
25:32I think they, they kind of do it all at once where it's like, not like you get cut today
25:36and you have 24 hours tomorrow.
25:37It's like all the waivers this week happened kind of all at once.
25:39So you just kind of take the collective of guys who were cut by Sunday at 6 p.m.
25:43And then they go out to the waiver wire and got to have those in by noon.
25:46All right, Sal, busy weekend then.
25:48And, uh, we'll touch base next week.
25:50I'm sure we'll be hearing from you over the weekend if news breaks.
25:53Uh, thanks for the time today as always, bud.
25:55All right.
25:56You got it, guys.
25:56Thanks.
25:57All right.
25:57That is our Sal Capaccio fresh off of an appearance out at Signals in Irving with Matt
26:03Beauvais for the podcast.
26:04They're going to be at Buffalo Old Brewery.
26:07Um, this week, I think it's Tuesday night for an appearance there.
26:11I went and checked them out last year when they did that.
26:13Cool beer garden scene out there.
26:15So, uh, keep that in mind, uh, as well.
26:18I'm sure Sal will be promoting it on his, uh, social media channels.
26:22All right.
26:22We'll hit up a timeout here.
26:24803-0550 is the number.
26:25You got any thoughts on last night, the roster, punt return, corner depth, whatever.
26:31Anything goes here.
26:32Nate Geary in for Mike.
26:33I'm the Bulldog and you're listening to WGR.
