00:04Welcome to MojoPlays and today we're jumping back in time and getting PTSD
00:08PlayStation Dramatic Stress Disorder. These are the 20 hardest characters to
00:12unlock in PS2 games. Let's go for it God help me. Before we continue we publish
00:17content all week long so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get
00:22notified of our latest videos. Player 2 Enter The Matrix. Enter The Matrix hides
00:30an entire fighting mode behind something no normal person was ever finding by
00:35accident. It's not hard with a guide it's just like following a recipe but without
00:39a guide it's just impossible. From the main menu you enter the hack system and
00:43start typing DOS style commands into a computer terminal. That's only the
00:47beginning. From there you need to dig through hidden directories, solve puzzles,
00:50remember codes, uncover secret drives, and even make phone calls to characters
00:53from the films. Eventually after disappearing so far down the rabbit
00:57hole that you may as well work for The Matrix you unlock a secret multiplayer
01:00fighting game. Thankfully you only have to do this nonsense once.
01:08Bear TimeSplitters 2.
01:15Sometimes the name of the reward is enough motivation. In TimeSplitters 2 you can
01:19unlock Bear who is exactly what he sounds like, a massive bear with access to
01:23firearms. Unfortunately the game makes you work for this incredible privilege.
01:27You first need to progress deep into Arcade League until you reach the Elite
01:30League Team Series C event, They're Not Pets. Then you have to earn at least
01:34gold medal which is easier said than done once the AI unlocks its own I want to ruin
01:38your life setting. By that point you've already cleared a mountain of
01:41challenges just to reach the event. Still an armed bear, no further explanation
01:46required.
01:51Archetype Earth RQ at Melty Blood
01:56Archetype Earth is the kind of unlock that quietly turns a fighting game into a
01:59second job. In Melty Blood you don't get it by mastering one character or beating
02:03some hidden boss, you have to clear arcade mode with the entire roster. Every single fighter. That means spending hours
02:10cycling through characters you love,
02:11characters you barely understand, and at least a few you'll never want to touch
02:13again once this is all over. There's no clever shortcut or secret code. Just
02:17repetition, patience and slowly growing resentment towards the character select screen.
02:26Captain Blue Beautiful Joe
02:28Captain Blue is basically sitting behind the entire difficulty ladder of Beautiful Joe.
02:38First, you need to clear adult mode to open V-Rated, then finish V-Rated to unlock Ultra V-Rated.
02:43Only after surviving that highest setting and beating the game again does Captain Blue finally become available.
02:48That sounds straightforward until you actually play Ultra V-Rated, where enemies hit harder, attack cues are nastier, and the
02:54game expects you to properly understand every VFX trick you've learnt. By this point you haven't simply beaten Beautiful Joe,
03:00you've worked your way through increasingly hostile versions of the same movie until Captain Blue finally accepts that perhaps you
03:05know what you're doing.
03:11MCA at Tony Hawk's Proving Ground
03:19Unlocking MCA in Tony Hawk's Proving Ground feels less like finding a secret character, and more like passing a performance
03:24review. You need to earn at least an amateur rank in every hardcore challenge, so there's no hiding from the
03:30events you're terrible at.
03:31Simply finishing them isn't enough either, the game actually grades how well you skate. Eventually you'll run into a challenge
03:37where survival is easy, but doing it cleanly is a whole other story.
03:40Since the hardcore events lean heavily into the game's tougher mechanics, MCA ends up being a reward for players who
03:46genuinely know what they're doing.
03:47Apparently even Beastie Boys members are subject to strict skateboarding rule sets. Your wall ride was sloppy? Sorry, no sleep
03:55till Brooklyn for you. God I hate myself.
04:011985 Michael Jordan NBA Street Volume 2
04:08Getting rookie Michael Jordan in NBA Street Volume 2 isn't about winning one brutal game. It's about practically completing the
04:14game's entire basketball curriculum.
04:16You need to finish NBA Challenge, Street School, and the full VIA Legend mode, which means tournaments, training objectives, and
04:22plenty of increasingly nasty opponents along the way. By the time you've done all that, you haven't just unlocked Jordan,
04:27you've sweat the color off your PS2 controller.
04:29Thankfully, the reward is worth it. This version of MJ is young, explosive, and perfectly suited to embarrassing defenders in
04:36street court.
04:36Yeah, it was crazy. After the game, he's gonna do two magic shows, and he's gonna need a volunteer.
04:42Devil Jin Tekken 5 takes over Jin Kazama.
04:52Jin Pachi was able to escape captivity as Honmaru fell.
04:57Tekken 5 gives you a choice for unlocking Devil Jin, which sounds generous until you see the options.
05:02You can finish Devil Within, the oddly substantial third-person action mode starring Jin, or you can simply grind through
05:08200 matches and wait for the game to eventually surrender.
05:12Devil Within is probably the more entertaining route, but it also means stepping away from the fighting game to play
05:16a completely different kind of game hidden inside the fighting game.
05:19The 200 match method is simpler, but only if your definition of simple includes hours of repetitive violence.
05:24Actually, that sounds fun. I'm gonna do that option.
05:38Noob Smoke is rough, but so is having your spine ripped out while a ghostly deep voice says fatality, so
05:43swings and roundabouts, I guess.
05:45In Mortal Kombat Deception, you need to collect 3,642 Onyx coins and spend them on Coffin DM in the
05:52Crypt.
05:52That means playing enough of the game's modes to build up one specific currency, then hoping you've remembered the correct
05:57coffin code.
05:58The Crypt was packed with hundreds of unlocks, ranging from genuinely great rewards to concept art you absolutely didn't need.
06:04Thankfully, Noob Smoke is worth the grind, since you're basically getting two classic fighters rolled into one.
06:10Still, spending hours collecting coins just to nervously open a coffin feels less like unlocking a character in more like
06:15busy work, which we all hate.
06:20Noob Smoke wins Fatality
06:24Ranmaru Mori Samurai Warriors 2
06:27When this battle ends, peace will reign. We have arranged for Master Kobayakawa to defect to our side.
06:36Survival mode is where Samurai Warriors hides Ranmaru, but simply surviving isn't enough to get this beast.
06:42Her unlock is tied to a chain of requests spread across different floors, starting with Ranmaru's first job on Floor
06:481.
06:48From there, Mitsuhide's request appears around Floor 11 and 21, before Ranmaru returns with another task at roughly Floor 31.
06:56Miss the important requests, and you can keep climbing without actually getting anywhere.
06:59That makes this especially nasty without a guide, because nothing about the mode clearly screams this is a route to
07:04a new character.
07:05You could easily play for hours, assuming Ranmaru was available, when really you just failed one obscure errand much earlier.
07:11Good job, but there's still more work to be done.
07:15Looks like I should go A to Tokugawa now.
07:17Minion Twisted Metal Black
07:27Twisted Metal Black saves Minion for players willing to completely strip the game for parts.
07:32Before he's even on the table, you need to uncover four hidden vehicles, Axel, Yellowjacket, Manslaughter and Warthog through secrets
07:38scattered across the stages.
07:40Then comes the real commitment, finish story mode with every single character, including those hidden characters.
07:45Considering how brutal the later battles can get, that means a lot of campaigns ending in fire, missiles and regret.
07:51Minion is at least a fitting reward.
07:53He's huge, ridiculously powerful, and built to flatten most of the roster.
07:57After spending so long being bullied by the game, you finally get handed the keys to the bully.
08:03Yes!
08:09Marjali Disgaea 2 Cursed Memories
08:13Where are we?
08:15Seems like some sort of screwy castle.
08:18Before Marjali even becomes an option in Disgaea 2, the game expects you to arrive with 99 felonies, around 1500
08:24mana and access to her extra stage.
08:26The mana is manageable, the felonies are where things get ugly.
08:29Building that total means deliberately working through the court system and item world over a long stretch of play, because
08:35you're not just going to stumble into 99 by accident.
08:37After meeting those requirements, you still have to beat Marjali in battle and then handle the proposal needed to recruit
08:43her.
08:43It's a wonderfully Disgaea process, part strategy RPG, part resource grind and part supernatural bureaucracy.
08:49It actually sounds really cool.
08:55Liu Kang Mortal Kombat Deception
08:57Liu Kang Mortal Kombat Deception
09:03Very few unlocks depend on whether you remembered to check the calendar.
09:06In Mortal Kombat Deception, Liu Kang first requires progress through conquest mode and the correct spirit related prerequisite.
09:14After that, you travel to Adenia and wait near Jade's tent at G8.
09:17The strange part is the chest containing his key only appears around midnight on Friday, roughly between 12 and 12
09:23.30am, in the game's internal clock.
09:25Arrive at the right spot on the wrong day, and there's simply nothing there.
09:28No boss, no puzzle, no clue, just an empty patch of ground.
09:32Unlocking Liu Kang means remembering his very specific weekly appointment.
09:40The secret character's Battle Stadium D-O-N
09:43D-O-N
09:47Battle Stadium D-O-N or Don somehow takes a perfectly normal crossover and hands the final decision to a
09:53slot machine.
09:54After meeting the right hidden characters during single player, you still don't unlock them directly.
09:58Instead, you head to the machine, try to hit the red flag result, then hope the bonus reel actually gives
10:04you the mystery head symbol for a character.
10:06Sometimes it doesn't even offer one, because the game might decide you need a stage instead.
10:10So after doing the actual gaming part correctly, progression becomes pure luck.
10:14You can know exactly who you're chasing and still be stuck watching slots spin while Rock Lee remains legally unavailable
10:20to you.
10:21Lee!
10:22Goku!
10:24Kakashi!
10:26Sal!
10:28Lucia 2 Neo Contra
10:35Always the tough guy, very dear.
10:38Neo Contra doesn't care that you finish the game with Lucia, it wants receipts.
10:43Unlocking Lucia 2, the bikini costume, means earning a 100% ranking on every single stage, so just reaching the
10:49credits won't get you there.
10:50Because each mission is scored on how cleanly you perform, every mistake suddenly matters.
10:55Missed enemies, sloppy sections, wasted opportunities, all of it counts.
10:59The game is already fast, loud and perfectly happy to kill you for blinking at the wrong moment, so chasing
11:04perfect results can mean replaying the same levels over and over until everything finally lines up.
11:09Lucia 2 is basically reserved for players who didn't merely beat Neo Contra, they removed every visible imperfection from it.
11:25Battleship Yoshitsuna, Makai Kingdom Chronicles of the Sacred Tone.
11:38Battleship Yoshitsuna sits so far beyond the ending of Makai Kingdom, that calling it post-game almost feels misleading.
11:44You're looking at a character around level 300, roughly 220,000 mana, and enough progression to access the wish chain
11:51that eventually leads to Baal, one of Nippon Ichi's nastiest superbosses.
11:55Beating him is the real war, and some versions of the requirement push you even further into later New Game
12:00Plus cycles before Yoshitsuna properly opens up.
12:03None of this is something you casually stumble into after finishing the story.
12:06It's built for players who've been living inside the save file for weeks, and have long since stopped recognizing normal
12:11RPG progression.
12:12Lord, I'm the best set up, that's who!
12:19Stormtalon Ghost Master
12:26Most ghosts in Ghost Master at least have the decency to tell you what they want. Stormtalon does not.
12:32He's hidden in the spooky holo level and won't appear unless you perform a very specific combination of actions near
12:38an old tree.
12:38You need to create a major storm using water and wind abilities, then work distant thunder into the setup as
12:44well.
12:44There's no useful clue pointing you towards this, so players can finish the level without ever realizing a secret thunder
12:50spirit was sitting there waiting to be found.
12:52Once you know the trick, it's manageable.
12:54Discovering the trick naturally would require either incredible luck or a suspicious amount of communication with the dead.
13:00Like, are you a proper medium kind of communication?
13:06Demoness, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
13:15Ten times. That's how many full career mode completions Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 wants before Demoness joins the roster.
13:22And each run requires 54 goals plus gold medals in all three competitions.
13:26The difficulty here isn't one impossible trick.
13:29It's maintaining enough enthusiasm to do practically everything again and again and again with different skaters.
13:34Some goals become second nature, while others remain irritating no matter how many times you've seen them.
13:38Demoness sits near the end of a huge chain of unlocks, so by the tenth career clear,
13:43you'll know every level, gap and objective almost automatically.
13:46At least the game gives you plenty of time to become genuinely terrifying at Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3.
14:06Mocap is supposed to be a joke character, but unlocking him feels like the joke is entirely on us.
14:11In Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, you need to complete conquest mode with every fighter and there are 20 of them.
14:17That means working through a huge pile of character specific missions before this motion capture bloke even becomes available.
14:23Then comes the extra insult, the game doesn't clearly tell you that he's unlocked.
14:26To actually select mocap, you have to highlight Cyrax and press down and X together.
14:31So after days of grinding, it's entirely possible to finish the requirement and still think nothing happened.
14:36That is an incredible amount of secrecy for a man in a mocap suit.
14:41He's not really hiding anything.
14:47William Borden Urban Reign
14:52William Borden is proof that sometimes the hardest unlock is also the least exciting reward.
15:00In Urban Reign, you need to earn an S rank on every stage before the corrupt politician finally becomes playable.
15:04That means replaying missions, experimenting with different characters and difficulties and squeezing better performances out of fights that were already
15:10rough the first time around.
15:12It's a proper completionist grind and one bad ranking keeps Borden locked away.
15:17The problem is that once you finally get him, he's just not that good.
15:20His stats are underwhelming, his attacks aren't especially impressive and there are far better fighters already available.
15:25You climb the mountain, you plant the flag and then you realise the view is terrible.
15:29Borden wins!
15:32Soul Calibur III
15:38Abelia is one of those unlocks where the requirement sounds harmless until you realise how much game sits in front
15:44of it.
15:44She becomes available after completing Chronicle 18 in Soul Calibur III's Chronicles of the Sword mode,
15:49which means pushing through most of the surprisingly large strategy RPG campaign.
15:54The later missions get much tougher, with stronger enemies and battles they can drag on if your units aren't properly
15:59prepared.
16:00There is technically another option, but it's hardly merciful.
16:03Rack up around 1,050 fights instead.
16:07So, whether you choose the side campaign or the giant battle counter, Abelia demands a serious chunk of time.
16:14And I'm not willing to give up my soul.
16:17Calibur.
16:18Shut up.

16:44décoray
16:44First of all, a pricing chap, dun, a green Medic bizar prospect.
16:44Boss, cause.
16:44And that's just a fact.
