In this scene Stefan is finishing up in his room at the Salvatore Boarding House when he turns around to find Rebekah lounging comfortably on his bed, uninvited and without knocking. She is casually flipping through and reading his personal diary. Annoyed, Stefan calls her out on her lack of boundaries given that she had been daggered for a while, to which Rebekah dryly responds that writing in a diary is fair game and that she is merely checking for doubts regarding his shifting feelings. She jabs at how quickly he flip flops between begging her to compel Elena out of his mind and ending up back with a dagger in her own back. Stefan tells her she can read it all she wants because he is completely done with Elena, though Rebekah remains skeptical until they find the cure.

Following this bedroom confrontation, the scene transitions into their next move as they head to Professor Shane’s office to search for clues and the supernatural herbs needed to track down Silas. While rummaging through the office files, Rebekah confronts Stefan about his cold, detached attitude, comparing it to their hedonistic and destructive history together in the 1920s. Stefan dismisses her, stating that back then he was a emotionless “ripper” and a psychotic killer, prompting Rebekah to gently tease that despite his dark past, he was never truly without emotion. After she uncovers a stash of professor’s herbs that act as a magical high, they share a lighter, highly charged moment of banter, navigating their complicated dynamic and agreeing to form an alliance.
