What was actually on a Roman soldier's plate?

Archaeological evidence from Roman military sites such as Vindolanda reveals a surprisingly varied military diet. Wheat and barley were important staples, while evidence also points to bread, meat, cheese, vegetables, beans, oil and other foods. Soldiers also had cooking equipment and prepared food within their military communities.

This Empire Echo episode reconstructs Roman military food preparation with cinematic 3D CGI, detailed food close-ups, realistic Roman cooking environments, volumetric lighting, particles, fire simulation and immersive sound design.
