After waiting 22 years for another championship, Curaçao has captured its second Little League World Series title, defeating Nevada 11-2 in the championship game.
Nevada came out strong and grabbed an early 2-0 advantage, but Curaçao quickly responded. After leveling the score in the third inning, the Caribbean team exploded offensively, putting together nine runs across the next three innings and taking control of the game.
The title capped a remarkable tournament run. Curaçao had already shut out Japan in the International final before facing Nevada for the overall championship.
The victory also puts Curaçao in a special place in Little League history, becoming only the second champion to have its country name displayed on the players’ uniforms.
For a nation of fewer than 200,000 people, the achievement is enormous. And with Curaçao’s soccer team also reaching the FIFA World Cup for the first time, it has been an unforgettable period for sports on the island.
After two decades of waiting, Curaçao’s young stars finally have their championship moment.
