00:00OH MY GOD SHIT!
00:11What does Notting Hill Carnival mean to you guys?
00:13It means life, I'm not gonna lie, it means life.
00:14The only thing I look forward to every single year,
00:17end of the summer, carnage standoff, perfect.
00:20Rum punch and dancing.
00:21For me it just symbolises freedom and celebration.
00:24It just means community, it means togetherness.
00:27We welcome everybody, as long as you bring good vibes and you're here to dance,
00:30eat the food, you know, support.
00:32Celebrate London, I guess.
00:34In terms of that community feel,
00:36why is that more important than ever that we bring people together in quite a divisive landscape?
00:40I honestly feel like without the sense of community,
00:44it will just feel even more divided.
00:45Not even about the Notting Hill community, just bringing every north, south, east, west,
00:51north, west, south, west all together.
00:53Especially with everything that went on at Grenfell as well several years ago,
00:57I think that's probably brought the community quite a lot closer as well since that happened.
01:01Because everyone is at each other at the minute.
01:03I feel like also people who don't know about the culture and stuff like that,
01:05it's great for them to experience.
01:07There's obviously been calls to move it to a park,
01:09so for example Hyde Park, to keep it sort of ticketed,
01:12and behind the fencing, more like a festival I suppose.
01:14Would that ruin what Notting Hill can't...
01:16I mean I can see some very strong shakes of the head here, tell me why.
01:19I think that would kind of ruin the whole vibe of it.
01:22Like I said, no matter what, they can do what they want to try,
01:24and man them and the people will always shop regardless.
01:27No matter what, people will always shop regardless.
01:29It's known for its Jamaican and Caribbean and all that culture.
01:34If you move it to Hyde Park, there's no culture there.
01:37It would be just another event, it wouldn't be a cultural event.
01:40And I love the idea that you just wander and find someone's grandma's made the most deliciously strong rum punch.
01:46I also like when you need to pee, sometimes it's like some person charges two pounds and you go in
01:51their house,
01:51and then you end up chatting to people online or the person who owns the house,
01:54and it's really community, right?
01:56If it originated from Notting Hill, born and bred,
01:59why are you going to take something where it's originally from and move it somewhere else?
02:04You can't take it away from the origins, right?
02:06Like yeah, I feel like when anything bad happens, they love to post the boy.
02:10Any time that there's any negativity, they will try and post the boy and make it a negative.
02:14So at the end of the day, when you look at the amount of people that come, like the police,
02:17they do a great job.
02:18I mean, the amount of negative press Notting Hill got when I was a kid, you know, you'd see people
02:23walking by.
02:23And actually when you come, it's just a celebration.
02:27You're always, at any mass gathering, you're always going to have issues.
02:31Like at a festival, there are issues where people probably just don't talk about them.
02:34It's not a scary thing, it's just a fun day out with your friends.
02:37Can you summarise Notting Hill Carnival in one word?
